Electrify

in my opinion, the electrify upgrade is a waste of resources, even if it costs only 20 res ! it is too weak, even if cheaper and higher ranged. one skulk can easily take out a resource tower with regeneration or with the help of a gorge ! i stopped using electrify upgrade ! i would get electrify for 10 res but not more ! resource towers are being destroyed too early in game !

here are some possible solutions:

1.
the electro upgrade could "shock" the skulks (or even gorges), so they cannot move and make an easy target for marines
2.
how about attaching a kinda turret to the resource tower instead of electrifying it ? single skulks shouldnt survive an attempt to kill a resource tower which is electrified ! (this would solve the offense chamber problem, too

    *update*

the electrify upgrade looks a bit ugly. how about adding a sparky sound instead of that white crappy glow effect of hl engine ?

A regen skulk can take the res down 3-4 bars before he has to back off and heal.
A cara skulk can get in some extra damage but has to go get healed afterward.
Elec is far from useless against skulks.

Ya if a single skulk with regen is taking out your res towers you really watch them more and send people to defend them or build turrets

An electrified node means that either you will own that node for a long time, or the aliens will be putting a lot of time or resources to get that node dead. 1 hive aliens either need regen, or a gorge for healing, or a higher lifeform. 2 hive aliens need a gorge to spend quite a while bile-bombing the structure to death. Either way, an electrified node keeps anything short of an onos busy for quite a while.

I personally electrify every node I can if I have the money. It will ensure that far fewer skulks will actually take the time to munch the node, and is cheaper and easier than setting up turrets to guard the node.

Plus, stupid skulks give you money, which is always a nice touch.

electrify is STILL too expensive, i thought researching it was for ALL and one time, but its only for ONE thing and 30 res each...thats REAL expensive....
but i MUST agree, it gets an onos down to near death,
and building a wall of spamming tf's,then electrifying them all, creates a VERY STRONG barrier vs onos and skulks (very expensive tho) ive tried it with bots, and they died as soon as they spawned...( i put like 10 tf's electrified RIGHT next to their spawns)

I've noticed that alot of Skulks will walk right past electrified nodes repeatedly. Not even one bite.

I guess it hasn't sunk in about resources being critical,
    yet.

IMO the range is too short, not enough damage... I feel really comfortable taking down a node has a skulk with gorge support... that is not how it is supposed to be... Maybe change it from 5 secs to 4 secs so it can get an extra zap in... It still does a little damage against already damaged skulks and if I need to reload around a skulk I just crouch under/next to an electrified object and then.. roasted skulk

I don´t think so, because most alien players don´t attack restowers with electrify upgrade when they are see them! Without Electrify they attack restowers in all situations.

Onos can Attack Electrify restowers without damage, because of the large range! test it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

yeah versus bots.... you wont survive with getting up 10 turretfactories with electrify upgrade, if your opponents are no mongos

I didnt say that its useless. In my opinion it would be worth 10 or 15 res. But not 30 !

btw, why does carapace lower electrical damage ? it should do same damage to all lifeforms no matter how much armor they have.
  • strangepIMPINstrangepIMPIN Join Date: 2003-03-30 Member: 15045Members
just remember what you could buy from 30 res.... heavy armor + 2 welders.... grenade launcher .... turretfactory with 1 turret (tf with 1 turret is much more effective than electrify upgrade... and it doesnt look that ****, too !)
