Aim at a piece of the level that you wanna blink to and click.

look toward the way you want to go, hold down the mouse button for the desired time/distance (max about 6 feet STC)
    and let go, BOOM!

so, say if there was a small post in the way, or you clipped the side of a wall... would you stop at the wall or the post? or will you travel in that direction until the max range is met?.... If you travelled through the wall I am guessing problems would develop?

the point is to travel through walls, don't worry, Flayra has incredible code to prevent problems like getting stuck in walls or blinking out of the map

Actuly they removed going through walls, the point is now to bypass baricades and get into nice spots.

/me steps in to clear up a bit of confuzzlation. Blink was, at one time, intended to go through walls, you are correct. It has since changed form (and I dont believe this is STC). It now works flawlessly, and works like this. Select blink from weapon meu. Aim at desired piece of level geometry. Click. Appear next to that piece of level geometry. This allows instant traversing of rooms stocked with turrets or bases. It also allows a skilled level 4 to reach places typically out of reach. And imagine the look on a marines face when, one moment your at the opposite end of a large room, the next, you blink right beside him and slash his intestines out.

Ah yes, well, someone got here before me. ::sob::

WOW, must have missed that one.
but you can go through doors still right?
I thought that one of its main purposes was to be the anti-welded-door-alien

    cool, glad I wasnt the only one <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

It would be good if you could blink through doors though  <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->

I usually dont like the scare factor in games (alien 3 on the megadrive scared the hell outta me) but this seems a real laugh <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

You know, the following would be pretty cool...

You select "Blink" from the weapon menu or what have you.
A map replaces your screen (top down view a la commander view).  Then you select where you want to blink to.  The farther away from your current position your destination is, the longer you take to "charge up" before teleporting.  You can't move or fight while charging up.  It's kind of like a gestation effect, where you are helpless for a little while.

To balance it out, you could make it so that you can't charge up inside your base (there would be little or no danger of getting killed by marines if you are in the middle of your base).  Also, you could say that you can't blink to parts of the map that you have not discovered yet (ie fog of war)

btw is there a fog of war system in the commander code?  if not, there ought to be.

^ all of that, obviously, are ideas for future releases (not v1)

I personally dont like it.A bunch of blinks could all teleport past the marine defences and attack them from behind, and take out hte commander real fast like. The viewing system in the commander mode works like this:
If the marines can see, the commander can see it.So, if a marine looks down a hallway and can see the other end, so can the commander.

To the best of my knowledge doors will and other brush based enities will stop ur blink. (wouldn't want to end up outside cause u went through glass <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> )

***Edit*** Blinks cost either energy or RP, not sure witch,(I think it's energy though) So if you were to blink a lot of times in a row you wouldn't have energy for attacking the marine once you get there. ***/Edit***

And commander mode has you see the enitire floor plan of the ship but u can only see an enemy or enemy structure if it's in LOS of one of your men.

windel i think that would take away from the fast-paced blinking that was intended.  But I'm a moron so...

So is the distance you blink dependant on how much energy you have left? Say you click on the end of a very long hallway, when you emerge from "blink-space" (tehehe) will your energy be empty?

(STC, probobly not, but y'know.) Blink costs a set amount of energy and allows you to teleport any distance provided there is no geometry in the way (this means large obstructions like pillars and doors and things). There is no charging (Provided you have the energy you need) or blinking through walls. You can't blink continously, but once and than a slash or two will work without need for recharge. It's pretty well balanced and definitely strikes fear into the hearts of marines everywhere.
