Soldier : Mech : Assualt : Leader?
One of the best things to know in battle is thy self.
So what's the position in the team you think is where you're at your best?
Personally, I can't Com worth a RT. I've a tactical mind, or at least I believe I do, but the nuances of build orders and the slight hectinicity of the position tends to lose me on the state of the game.
I usually find myself being a soldier of the line, I try to obey the com and do what the team needs.
On the alien side of things, I've finaly gotten used to the skulk, and my k:d ration has more than doubled. Here I find myself usually playing either skulk or gorge. Unfortunatly, as alien, I have less grasp on the current goings on, and tend to be a tad single minded on my goals. [last couple games I had 45 res, so I poped into a hive, gorged, laid the hive and went back to skulking, and the gorge who was sitting there said "I wanted to build it!" 'Twas in good nature, or at least thats how I chose to take it] So again, I find myself being a front-liner, although my "twitch" skills are a tad sub-par, and my endgame k:d is probably still pretty close to 1:1 or even 1:2.

As an alien, I give myself a B+ on reflex, so I take it upon myself to recon for the team. I'm not really a exceptional gorge tho. =P
As aliens, I fill whatever gaps appear, whether they're gorges, or scouting skulks, or ambushes... However, I very much like to go onos early if it's tactically useful (aka there aren't five other people saving for onos), as devouring is just so much fun. If there are, however, I'll go lerk and try to deny marines early expansion, and go gorge for bilebomb when it becomes neccessary.
Normally, I don't do too much head-on assaulting, but if the situation requires that, then I can fill the role. I'll gladly take up heavy weapons to help the team. I always keep my eyes on the enemy, but I keep my mind on my teammates. If I see that someone's in danger, then I'll usually risk my own life to save theirs.
Or, as many people call me, Superskulk.
Being gorge gives me an intimate knowledge of gorge behaviour, also means I'm the first to put a few rounds into empty corners so I can spot the Sensory. I don't mind revealing half a dozen off towers at the cost of getting wiped.
I follow orders, follow em well, and when I can I try to keep the other goons in line. IE ask rambos to not rambo, keep the NSplayers on their objective, that sort of thing.
I've a good strat mind but I'm not taking the chair until I find a better readme. I didn't know about electrifying structures from reading the online manual, so I dread to think what else has been missed...
I try to provide leadership if/when it's needed, most people just need a hint here and there to get the right idea. It can be really satisfying when your team comes out the victor from a tactic you've helped organise and pull off.
Much the same story as aliens, often we'll need a variety of units to take down a heavily defended marine outpost, in which case I'll try to make sure we have all the necessary classes to do the job.
I enjoy the 2.0 commander interface, I think it's excellent. I've only commanded twice, and both those times we won. Compared to the 2.0, the old 1.04 interface is barely usable.
v2.0, I tend to be a shotgunner. Keep my teammates alive by popping that annoying Skulk zipping around their feet, or about to fall on their head from a high perch.
Alien side, I tend to prefer either Celerity Skulk or Gorge. Zipping around under cloak, pouncing out to distract or disrupt, maybe pick up a nosh on a rambo or two, while keeping them confused and on-edge. As a Gorge, it's fun to tuck chambers away into unexpected and very helpful areas, giving my team an invisible forward healing node, or just the thing needed to duck away from those pursuing Marines for a moment or three. Maybe even snag an OC kill or two, in keeping those pesky humans out of a given area, or taking down a rambo who sees a Gorge as an easy kill. It's amazing what someone can do now, who knows how to properly Gorgedance around an RT to let 'em waste ammo.
If not, I'll just solo and RT hunt until I'm given an order.
Early game as alien I go on kamikaze skulk rampages, and whenever I have enough res I drop a node or jump into a vent somewhere and build a sensory chamber in a very hidden and very protected spot. Once i'm happy with chamber placement, I go lerk and usually stay that way for the rest of the game. I LOVE the lerk. Spore spamming early on, followed by major umbra support for the fades and onos, and the occasional sniper lerk for taking out tfs and phases from a distance. Lerk + regen + adren + scent = awesome.
Of course, since my LMG/HMG/SG aim is nowhere near as good as most of the other experienced players, I prefer to stick to the Kharaa...
As an alien, I'm the guy who's constantly hopping back and forth between skulk and gorge, racking up the kills and dropping upgrade chambers in obscure corners... Yeah, I'm one of those gorges who'll try to cover the entire map in SCs, get L3 silence, and build a huge defense base just out of range of the observatory in the marine spawn.
Of course, if the team already has a competent gorge, I'll usually go lerk with silence and/or SoF and go hunting for rambos, unwatched turret bases, and anyone without HA who seems to be doing something important (Hey human! Pffffffffffffffft!). In late game, I'm stealth onos, upgraded to silence and staying within range of a SC, waiting with stomp and devour for the humans to wander down that nice empty hallway...
Ahh, I love 2.0...
Beyond that though, I prefer playing in support roles. Give me a welder or a suicide run (but not both!) and I'm happy to have it. Unfortunately, I'm still not up to speed on the maps, so I tend to get lost unless I have a squad. (The new minimap sure helps though) I prefer the sneaky way to the full on attack method, which means I've been able to pull a couple of flanking maneuvers on the aliens in some small areas.
Haven't commed yet. Not sure when I'll take that up.
Usually though I just jump through the random gate and wind up being an alien. So far my favorite role there has been as gorge. Setting up a sensory chamber network throughout the map, sneaking up behind the HA and Heal Spraying him to death, that's fun. I don't tend to put down enough offense chambers though, I'm starting to work on that more.
I want to get good using the Lerk but my flight skills seem to have more in common with a turkey than an eagle.
It started out as just going gorge early game, to use up my initial res to benefit the team, but now I'm gorge all game, even so far as to take redemption to save that 10 res it'd take to evolve back into a gorge.... thats a whole other chamber!
Also, bilebomb, how I love ye.... I'd like to think of myself as the john mcclane of gorges when neccessary... I'll flank around a marine encampment... build up a forward base, and use it to launch an attack from cover.
One the marine side I'm your best pal, 'I've got yer back' when you're topping up on ammo or building that turret factory, I'll rush to my own certain doom if I think it'll benefit the team, I'll be that one lone marine standing between the aliens and their third hive who just refuses to die.... while gorging is my new found love, twitch reflexes are what I was raised on. I've got a quick, steady aim, and I'm even faster on my feet. I prefer to be the last of my team with good equipment, just cause I want to be mobile and I like to be risky. Make no mistake I'm a team player, but if you've got 6 other marines following orders to the letter and setting up an outpost then I'm more than happy to scout ahead and make sure no alien scum get that far. I like to be in the thick of things... I'm not foolishly suicidal, but I know when to do and die for the good of the team.
As aliens, I like skulking a lot, but lately I've found myself evolving to Lerk as soon as possible to do some guerrilla warfare. I also enjoy the new Fade. The blink is amazing and it's something I really want to perfect my skills with as it has so much goodness loaded inside. Onosing is kinda fun, but I miss the mobility of lower classes.
As an alien i'm becoming fastly proficient in the art of stealth/ninja. Again I utterly stink with headon attacks but when in range of a SC or a yummo dark hiding spot theres nothing more enjoyable then running behind a slow moving marine, chomping him to death with silence and going back to my hiding spot before his squad knows what happened...
Of course....its even more fun (and funnier) when a marine walks directly towards me as a cloaked onos with my mouth waiting for the taste of his armour.....even if it does induce a lot of "WTH!?!?!!" ...ah..good times..
By eating them of course. Could never touch marines...
As alien, I am usually skulk or gorge. I tend to use so much resources building chambers that I never have enough to evolve to the class I truly like: fade. At the endgame when assaulting marines' final stronghold, I play whatever class needed most, usually the lerk.
Alien: Mostly Gorge or Fade.
Aliens: Gorge.....period. I am teh sux at skulk now, so I'm content with sitting behind the scenes putting up happy res and sensories to help the killers at the front. After we own everything....I go armored cow (onos) and eat people....
I'm also a good rambo. I'm very good at keeping in mind the total situation. Unfortunately in 2.0 it's very hard to accomplish much as a rambo now except to scout/patrol/guard.
I have very good twitch skills (was an Unreal Tournament player ), situational awareness, spatial orientation, keeping in mind the whole picture, and multitasking. Unfortunately there are people who are just better at killing me but these are top clanners.
Never hesitate to do the right thing
I comm only when i have to....never won a game as comm though ...heh
I am a good guarder...give me a good spot to hunch down and peg them off from a distance
I like building stuff.
I like being the front man when we move...i am not that good of a shot...so i would rather be the first to die.
I play good in HA ...i like the slow methodical approach.
Aliens
I play everything...pretty well...or at least to my satisfaction
:-)
