I love mineshaft for skulk ambushes, but at the moment I find it far too confusing. I thnk my favourite is therefore ns_veil, because although it seems to yield long, long games (the two I've played there were 120 and 170 minutes long, roughly) its layout seems very well thought out, it's very attractive, and above all great fun to play.
My favourite of the updated maps would be Eclipse - the new lighting is superb and although I don't much like the new Maintenance hive I've greatly enjoyed ever game I've played there. And to be honest I didn't like the original eclipse that much, so it's a huge improvement.
ns_lost looks nice, but it's pretty dang dark even by NS standards and that coupled with ladders hidden around corners can make it annoying sometimes.
So far I certainly like ns_mineshaft the best. All of the new maps seem to be very complicated compared to the old ones, though.
[ah, blah blah this is my first post blah blah... I've been checking these forums since they were that lovely orange IkonBoard shtuff and just now saw fit to register.]
Despite the fact I get lost the second I leave the hive or base, Mineshaft is my favourite so far. I haven't really had a chance to play 2.0 a lot unfortuneatly.
Mineshaft. Folks, the C (map button) is there for a reason .
Origin is complicated but very cool... probably the funniest map to play as an alien , but not a comm's nightmare (there is a double res point at the center of the map suitable to drop an obs/phase outpost in , out-of-the-way nodes to electrify , and the hives aren't impossible to siege) in fact that's the one where I had my first 2.0 marine/comm victory
Veil is also very nice , lightings are a bit extreme but it has a perfect strategic layout , still significant in the late game :
I had a 3 hours game this afternoon on Roob's server , where the marines locked Sub (we started on Pipeline) , then invaded Nanogrid as well ; we took our 3rd hive back with onos + umbra spam , but then they attacked Cargo. We had all 3 upgrades for the whole game , but fluctuating abilities (enough to bile bomb most of the time , but thoses damn GL spammers made our attempts futile by using motion tracking and phasing all the time everywhere in no time flat)
Then they sieged Pipeline , we took Cargo back with mass onos , tried to breach their extremely dense turret defense at Pipeline (siege TF + lockdown TF) and were flushed by a stronger wave of HA HMGs , then they destroyed Cargo before the hive was completed. Most of us were exhausted so we didn't bother redem-devouring the attacking HAs and they razed Sub.
For me veli is the map I like best. It seems to be very repetative texture wise, but I just like the way that the map plays, its very similar to eclipse.

without a doubt origin, though some bits were unusual
Mine would have to be Origin...simply because its so damned purty and hitech looking.
I think Origin's laid out nicely, but I never got much of a chance to check it out because I was a commander the only time I played it for any decent amount of time. Odd since I tend to avoid comm because my comp runs rather slow in comm mode.
Something that annoys me on the new maps is that the "no overlapping rooms" rule has been broken. Just with vents, but sometimes quite long pieces of vent or a piece with a corner in there, which makes the map less useful than it could be. When walking in the map I find paths that I didn't ever notice on the map because they're not easy to see on the map.
Cant really rate, only saw half ot hem closely, still getting lost.
origin (highly strategical vent map, and i like its credits) mineshaft (counldnt do that theme better, goot atmosphere and detail) veil (good ballancing, simple design, nice crossfire and outflank strats) lost (too dark for me, still really good unique stuff)
Origin is my favorite new map, followed closely by mineshaft and veil. I think Biodome is by far the coolest hive of all. Unfortunatly, I still end up going in very big circles on all the new maps, even with the mini-map open:( Probably because I'm too busy staring at all the new scenery.
I truely love the new Eclipse, I used to dread having to play it, but it has definatly improved greatly. I actually look foreward to playing it now, who would have thought!
uhh mineshaft and lost. and the new eclipse and the new caged.. umm and all the other maps
Ns_Mineshaft is, in my opinion, the best-looking one of the four new maps. I really like the dark feeling, and it stands out from the other maps(in a good way). I'ts too early to point out an favourite from how they plays, but I have had great games on all four of them. A big "GJ!" to all the mappers! (The new caged, hera and eclipse are also great!)
Havent played enough yet to decide which map is best gameplay wise, but I'd have to say that mineshaft is the best *looking* new map hands down. The textures, lighting, and general atmosphere of the map is amazing.
Minesaft, because the theme of it is not like every other ns map

Overall it's a great teamwork map, and it's fun to play.
Not saying that any of the other maps arn't fun to play though.

I think I posted this in another thread, but I love the small map size, with dark tunnels everywhere. I agree that it also looks the nicest.
The others are awesome as well though
