<div class="IPBDescription">USE YUOR SKWADS!</div> Basically, it goes like this- commanders now are barely starting to discover Squads. I've found comms that are the best comms of all time because of them. It makes them A TON easier.

Please, use squads, it'll give a feeling of companionship in the squads, as well as make it easy on the comm.

You know, since you mention it, I don't think a single comm I've had so far has used squads. I've played quite a few games of 2.0 and I don't recall ever being put in a squad. That's odd now that I think of it.

For those of you who don't know how to put people/buildlings in squad here's a quick guide.
    1. Select men/buildings.
    2. Press your crouch key and a number simultaneously. This will involve putting 1 finger on the shift key and the other on a number without releasing shift key.
If all go well you should hear a voice.
To recall a squad just press the number you assigned it to.

ps. Try assigning the obs to a squad, makes scanning a hell lot easier.

My keys are bound funky... I had f as my voicerecord key, so I was dropping commchairs by accident (very bad!), and it took me a while to get used to r (crouch) as my assign key (instead of RTS standard ctrl). So, give us confused comms some time, aight?

    Though, yeah, it helps.

X-Can- its your crouch key, not shift.

Can you add buildings to a squad ? Sounds funny... but maybe a good way to keep track of your turret farms or phase network.

    Thanks for correcting me.
Stakhanov, yes you can, and as I said assigning your obs to a squad is very helpful.

Yes, bind it to the observatory and you can scan without all the headaches. What I want to know is how you can remove a marine from a squad without adding him to another squad. What I do now with n00bs is put them in squad 5 and assign them to guard the armory. I mean, they just hump it anyway...

R is my crouch key. I've rebound crouch to ctrl now too, just to keep me sane. R for grunt and Khaara, ctrl for comm.

Just another thing that would make scanning more easy: bind the obs to a hotgroup.

One problem I have with squads, especially in pubbies is that people get seperated. I used to be a big stacraft player, so my mind is set on having very well organized squads that don't rambo around. This results in constant reassignment of squads to people (more out of habit then anything), and I usually get a few "OMG comm wat fing squad am i on" shouts. Well, for me at least it's pretty hard to organize with squads around. I'm a fast clicker so I go and order rambos to critical positions.

Der ting is, squads aren't really all that useful compared to the all-mighty Select All button (which seems to not work, some of the time :/)

By the way, wasn't there going to be something so that if you hold down a key your voicecom goes only to the marine you have selected? Has that been implemented, and if so what is the command?

I think you select the marine, then crouch + voice com.

Squads are kinda good early on in the game, but once you are starting to push for a hive, I find it better to get all your marines into 1 super big group and send them to the hive and slowly push, while giving meds or whatever they need

that was uncalled for. If you have nothing good to say don't say it...

Is there a way to unselect a marine who's already selected. For example, I want to select all but 1 marine - can I select all then un-select the marine I want to guard base?
  • MasterShakeMasterShake Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15699Members
Yes, hit the select all button, and all of the marines should show up as "selected" (you can see their health.) Then simply click on the marine you want to unselect, and he will become unselected.

I had a commander who put me in a squad with two hmg ha marines..and I only had an lmg....Guess who lived? Two dead heavies, one lmg marine makes it back to base with a heavy's hmg. For the entire game, I was the sole member of squad 1. >.<+
