Missed all this, the above posts only noted that Bast's source was missing, I didn't know Nancy went with it.

I hope some intrepid soul either fixes the issues on the BSP level or remakes the map. If they do, what would they name noname?

Feel free to try, we can't stop you, obviously; however, I guarantee that neither you nor your friend have never successfully decompiled and recompiled an NS map. Edit: forgot about Thing's point - like I said, bast is still in there. And the mapper had been listening to crap for a year straight, from people that could sooner fly than map. I've never heard anyone on Roob's server complain about Bast, IMO it's one of the finest maps. Great vents, Marines + gorges can get between hives without having to take some insane detour, good looking all round.

well i don't think legal issues would be the matter because isnt the maps in the property of the ns team when maps are submitted.
so it could be done if you could decompile them but i see that some 1 sais you cant. sooo..
there are harder ways to accomplish things.

who wants to recreate a map based on 2d slices?
(and i cant use these without giving credit to <a href='http://www.planethalflife.com/botman/bsp_tool.shtml' target='_blank'>Bsp_tools</a> for making these)

or we could locate the hard drives and get some hardware scientists to recover the data. if we could get enuff support... somehow.

I know you said you haven't been able to contact him Monse, but just in case he someday re-appears please let him know from all of us that there is a great many people who LOVE ns_bast, and think it is one of the greatest achievements in the whole NS world.

It is so atmospheric and eerie in places, lots of strategic points... and I've ALWAYS loved the cockpit... I just think it's so damn cool with the chairs and the instruments and the dials and the view out into space.

Don’t get me started on the hives, which are IMO the coolest hives on any map.

It really pains me to think that he would have been so offended by people’s criticisms that he'd rather leave than continue on with the NS dev team... just another example of how peoples incessant, immature and selfish criticisms and mindless condemnation can eat away at the quality of not only the community but the dev team itself. He is certainly a valuable component to lose. I would have loved to have seen what else he could create.

    Love live ns_bast!

    Best wishes to it’s creator!

Hey, I've got some free time... I could try and remake ns_nancy from scratch, using the old one as a reference. I can use BSP View alongside Worldcraft to get the world fleshed out, then use Ripent to insert the entities back in.

Yea on NS_Bast, going down that elevator with a squad of 6 marines. All paranoid and not knowing what to expect around the next corner. We all took up nervous positions around that blast door. One marine ran up and opened it.
"Squad! Move in!" From the comm. It felt just like ALIENS when they first go inside.

yeah original hera had a beautiful outdoor scene that we just couldn't reach :/ also hera entrance and reception w/ the hallway was very well done, I felt like I was visiting hera station.

bast was my favorite 1.04 map, it was perfectly done, PERFECT, it felt good enough to be a single player game or a game otherwise entirely focused on the spaceship bast and its adventures.

IMO more maps need this complex and authentic spaceship feel, and more maps need awesome vistas as hera and lost.. however I never liked lost and new hera isn't as charming anymore. You may not care but otherwise I ask the mappers to improve upon the scenery - damn that's some good stuff

Also experiment with more 3 dimensional map styles, involving more Z axis action, and perhaps outdoorish maps or monumental maps.. just experiment, 's all, it may be quite cool..

Bast was unfairly criticized in the beginning. The devs apparently extended the range of seiges just prior to release, which led to the infamous bug of seiging Engine hive from Marine spawn. That was hardly the fault of the mapper. When the seige range was reduced again, Bast really came into its own. It has by far the best ambience and gameplay of any of the old, or new, maps. Its sad that the source has been lost, for that means it won't be in 3.0, whenever that comes out. (Perhaps someone could reverse-engineer it?)
