A Request To Server Ops

But seriously guys, appart from res being stretched thin, more often these size games develop into 1, 2, 3 or even 4 hour stalemates untill people get bored of the game.

Unfortunately my first game of 2.0 was played on a large server, and it almost made me leave the mod, until one of my clanmates persuaded me to play on a 14 man server, where the game lasted untill a couple of onos countered a marine attack on a hive by attacking base (a move on a large server doesnt work because of all the base defenders) so it was about 25 minutes long.

That game made me love the mod again.

However I do have a list the length of my arm of thigs that bug me in the game <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
but maybe ill post that at a later date, ill see if anyone else notices them.

    I played an 5 hour game on my 10 person server, marines won as me as commander <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Actually a good commander and the marines always win.

    AGREED! With marines they stay in packs... and ha and hmg is damn deadly even when you have onos.... Thing with aliens is most people play them gung ho... once they become onos they think its end game for the marines... instead they waste recources... i wish for once that the Aliens would do things in packs instead of picking off bits at a time...

    We have a 26 player server, and I've seen games in lenght from 5 mins to 3 hours. I think what your seeing right now is commanders who are getting used to the new system, and people coming up with new tactics. I think eventually you'll see the game balance itself out, and even servers with 14 players will have long drawn out boring games.

    Interesting post - I run two servers publically, a 10 player and a 24 player. The 10 player server is empty most of the time and the 24 player is full most of the time - it looks like the common mentality of players joining servers is "bigger is better". After playing a couple of games yesterday on the 24 player - one was 2 and a half hours long !!!! and the other was just over an hour. I agree that large player servers are showing some seriously long drawn out games at the moment. As for the 10 player - well its empty most of the time so I've no idea how long the games last ...

    Anyway after thinking about this (and being prompted by this post) I'm considering running two smaller games instead of one big 24 player. I'll leave it as it is for now but its food for thought - 2 1/2 hours is simply too much.

    I think a 24 man server is about the best, but thats just my opinion.
