I am also having this problem. In 1.04 I was averaging maybe 60 fps in light situations, such as wandering down a hallway alone. Now I am averaging below 20 fps in that same situation, making the game almost unplayable. I have Pentium 3, 996 MHz processor, Windows XP, and a Geforce 2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try turning off dynamic lighting (r_dynamic 0) and also make sure you run NS in 16bpp mode

Umm is there a way you can fix this HUGE drop in fps without making your game look like ****.. cuz i spent quite a while configing my opengl.cfg to and video settings to make half-life look the best it possible can while still maintaining 100 fps.

Is your fps_max set to 100?

It defaults to 60 in 2.0, I believe.

    opengl.cfg?
    Whats that?
    Do you mean config.cfg?
You would think Half Life would give everyone 100fps, but it dosent

    fps_max defualts to 72
    fps_modem defualts to 0 (unlimited I think)

I wouldn't recommend running a Radeon 8x00 or 9x00 in 16bit. They run like crap, often slower than 32bit.

Yeah, NS 2.0 runs even worse than 1.04 on my system. P4-B 1.8 GHz, 768MB DDR, Radeon 9500 Pro, 10k rpm SCSI drive... Turret farms and phase gates eat my system alive.

r_dynamic has been locked by valve (on purpose ?) in the last HL patch.

I guess they figure "Everyone has a powerful computer that can run our games now, so we don't need to allow underclocking anymore!" <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

*Goes back to nice, safe, remote gorging. He never could hit the broadside of a barn in the first place, so he hasn't noticed any sort of decline in performance. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->*
