Suggestion To The Ns Servers

<div class="IPBDescription">Increase the max # of players</div> Since 2.0 was released, my ping has dropped dramatically.

It could mean 2 things:

A. My ISP has suddenly upgraded their connection.

or

B. 2.0 has something to do with it.

If the reason is B, I urge the server owners to inrease their server's maximum player limit.

I am happy to see that some of the servers have already done this.

Some of the servers I play on have decided not to increase the server size due to bandwidth issues. The server could handle more people but they don't want to pay more to accomadate a few more people in a game. I would assume this is rather typical.

v2.0 has drastically reduced server load... there are reports between 80 and 95% drops in CPU usage. So this is likely where the lag reduction is coming from.

HOWEVER: The game is still oriented around roughly 16 players. A full 32-player server would likely be even more insanity than the v1.04 servers had been, especially with res-for-kills being implemented. At least the rounds would end quickly.

    I see.

The servers I play on are 18-20 player servers.

But just today, 1 server changed his max # of players from 20 to 24.

Pings are definately much lower now. As for changing normal server size, I dunno. I played on a ?28? player server this evening and it was absolute MADNESS, I dont think any more than that would be feasible really.

    *bump* so other server owners can read <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

Once a decent server doesn't cost an arm and a lerk, we would definately increase from 12 to whatever. But sheesh...it's like pulling teeth from these companies JUST TO HOST NS!

One of our clansmen ran a test 10 player server using his cable modem...ping was just fine. Come on...time for a server company to step up. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

If you ask me i HATE I MEAN HATE large games, even more so as com its hard enuf to get 4 people to lissen never mind 15 of them all trying to talk at once. Me i like 5:5 games.

I've kept mine at 16 players and so far that seems like a really good number. Enough people to distribute around the map but not so much as to be overwhelming and make the map seem overcrowded. The larger servers give me more of a CS feel as in there's a general objective but everyone is kinda on their own on how to get there.

    Da Kine Guy,

16 is a good # for me too.

    Eidolan,

5 vs 5 is hardly a NS game IMHO.
