I think bob will stick. Its completely unoriginal, as someone said, tis like calling your dog spot. Even so it does have a certain charm to it, dunno why but it seems to fit. If it makes people feel better try turning bob into an acronym like... Beast of Bodmin (tis a crappy UK monster like the loch ness monster only worse) or Brain on basil... or something clever i dunno.
Tiny is rubbish though, same problem as bob but with none of the charm. Dont know what it could be called though, I try and think but I keep coming up with surreal stuff that is so stupid that... well, like lozenge... dont ask me, i have no control over this daft brain of mine. Matilda, juniper, nifflethwaite... all these passed through my brain since I typed that last sentance 'Dave Gorman' k, so im watching that show.
Anyway, think builder is better than pudgy, flier is fine and I dont think blinky is that bad but Ive not played the game really.

If Natural-Selection gets many players very fast I think Bob and the others names will die out. Hopefully the NS team will do a good job giving official names.
I really can't see the charm in 'Bob' that supposedly so many others can see.
twist forum member names into aliens' names? wierd... i mean, imagine a ratpro988102 approaching or a falyr... (falyr is Flayra mixed up, ratpro988102, is well, duh) lol anyway, i will now call them: <!--emo&:bob:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/bob.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bob:'><!--endemo--> tiny ('coz he really is) <!--emo&:pudgy:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/pudgy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':pudgy:'><!--endemo--> uhh... don't know <!--emo&:tiny:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tiny.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':tiny:'><!--endemo--> big or huge or something like that... since i mean their gigantic... The dev team will put out official names sometime, U don't NEED nick NAMES for the SIEGE TURRET and TURRET, they r a given and i see that last post as an attept to bost ur post count which isn't realy important. Look at my post count, it's at around 550, if u break it down 50% of my posts were in off topic and thus off topic and another 15% or so were useless, agreeing with someone else or just not constructive. That leaves me with only 55 useful posts.
obviously the vast majority of you have not dealt with jarheads in real life, asking a marine to remember a name longer then bob or tiny could be trouble, so for the sake of realism they should be refered to by short names, keep the scientific ones for the manual...
btw its much easier to type tiny in game then typing Oephelius Rex or what have you...
You are right, if the names are long and complicated, nobody will use them. The names must be short and precise, because they are used in the heat of battle.
The only thing that makes sense is to call them by their function: crawler, flyer, builder, blinker, smasher.
It's what marines would do, and it's what I will do.
i think that is probably the best idea, dont have like latin names that no person on earth could posibly pronounce, keep it simple. also from what it sounds like the tsa marines dont know too much about the aliens, why would they come up with latin names or other names that make it sound like the aliens have been studied for years? if anything i think the lvl names should be kept, it sounds like something the army would call it.
I agree with infector I think easier to type in games nices would be the best why not just: Level1=L1 Level2=L2 ......... ......... ......... You see what I mean, when you are a marine in danger you want to type as little as possible. Not only that but people already know the level names.
But that would require marines to remember which number does what. Was it 3 that could blink or 4? You're asking too much of the poor grunts (and all those players that never read manuals).
just come up with some good grunt names. Bob could become wallclimber, or just climber. 2 either builder or pudgy (lets face it, the first describes his function well, and the second just describes) 3 flier (again, why not it's descriptive) 4, ummmm dunno on that one, 5 the tank, a big one, oh holy #### we're ######. (i personaly think tank is good) Again these are ideas for grunt names, of coarse we're going to put out something that sounds scientific for atmosphere sake, but since when do grunts listen to anything the scis tell em in most cases.

/me thinks it would be a good time to point out the differences between, "Bob," and, "Evil bOb." First of all, "Bob," doesn't have 0 (zero) in the place of an O.(letter o) Secondly ........................................................ And finaly if we follow through and calculate X Y D using the pythagorem therom we come to the conclusion that, "Evil bOb," is not equal to, "Bob."
I think that in the current discussions and playtests, the only names used other than level numbers are "builder" and "flier", because they're the only one-word nicknames that come easily to mind. A level 1 would be a what, a climber? A jumper? Nothing intuitive there. A level 4 is a what? Possibly a blinker, but it can only blink with 3 hives active, so not very often. Level 5 is maybe a charger? A big giant killing thing?
It all comes down to what's intuitive. Failing that, people seem to use level numbers. I realize that I recently posted some stuff using Tiny, but the habit is hard to shake and once I play it, my impression of the Level 5 will be very much different than it is now. I stick to my previous statement - when the game comes out, people will use the easiest and most intuitive names they can find.
i got it, the names for all of them!!! (ok, this is pointless and NO,i don't care about post count, i mean who cares if you have 21589729 posts?... i just find this kinda funny to me) 1: headcrab 2: zombie 3: controller 4: alien slave 5: gargantua/gonarch
I'm getting tired of seeing crap that is just pointless stuff to up ur post count, if ur going to do that at least make it funny. Post counts don't matter that much, look at Jedisar or SM, both have postcounts in the hundreds and both are completly immature. That catogory sorta includes me too.

Sorry Molec, don't take it personally! :)
