<div class="IPBDescription">Goodbye... *sniff*</div> Well, nobody really knew anything about NS_Deep as I haven't posted any screenshots, only a minimap once. But it was 80% done, all textured, built, detailed... And now, I've installed NS 2.0, forgot that the map was in the NS folder and didn't click the "yes" at the "backup" option. So now... About 5 months of work went down the drain... I am so depressed right now... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Damn, that sucks...have you tried your recycle bin? You shouldn't really keep your .rmfs in your ns directory for this very reason. :/ Do a HD search for the files (Start button + F), you never know...

    Yeah, I'll do that... You never know, but I seriously doubt it... Maybe I'll even try some undelete program but that hardly ever works... *deep sigh* <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I've also heard you can pay to have someone go through your harddrive 'manually' and restore important stuff, usually after like hard drive crashes and whatnot.

    Wait.. so your Rmf was in that folder? Wasn't it in hammer/maps or someting?

    you can retrieve stuff that's been deleted but not yet overwritten

    I hate to be a killjoy on this but, with the possible exception of an NTFS file structure I *think* that NS2 would have taken the hard drive space that ns1 was in. Either way it's worth a shot, all i'm saying is don't go into it with any expectations....and don't defrag until you get a chance to check for it. =)

    Man this sux, I thought I did the same thing with my map I've been working on, ns_congo but I saved in in Half-Life/valve instead of Half-Life/ns.

    uhoh thats very sad. never heared that somebody stores his .rmf files in the maps folder. otherwise one would say: "it is not too bad. look in your maps folder, there is a .map file of your map.
    I for my part havent installed 2.0 over my 1.0. I renamed the 1.0 folder and installed 2.0 cause you never know.
    to all people who havent figured it out: make backup copies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I dont trust my hdd completely so I save my zipped rmf files on a simple floppy disk. simple but effective. important projects get even 2 discs because they arent reliable
    too <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
    hint: search your wc/vhe directories. maybe you will find a fragment.

    Too bad, I highly recommend you to keep the rmfs in other place, and to backup them constantly, I have a Zip drive where I keep all my projects, since you never know what could happen.

    Well, all my other projects are always in the Worldcraft folder or even have numerous copies, but this one didn't... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Not even on a CDR or CDRW... I searched all the drives, no files... Only a memento: A minimap, a few screenshots from worldcraft and a .map file of it (the VERY early version, with only 2 rooms... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> ). I'm doomed...

    EDIT: Confirmed... I tried the undelete... NS_Deep is now officially dead. Rest in peace... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'm sorry for you. Things like this really shouldn't happen <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
    I have also deleted my ns 1.0 folder but remembered to backup my custom textures. Just forgot my leap script (doh!). But when I recoded it I realized it doesn't really work with 2.0 anyway <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->
    I hope you are not too desillusioned now and can make an even better map from your old ideas! (If it wasn't already the "elite" map)

    Thank you Nerd... I still feel down and probably won't map for some time... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    But anyway, it was my sloppy fault... And I deserved it... *sigh*

    Ouch, ouch, ouch <i>ouch</i>.

    I really feel for you, I lost my first two (HLDM) maps, it really isn't nice. Hope it won't drain the fun in mapping out for you.
  • GordonGordon Join Date: 2003-01-01 Member: 11707Members
    I think you shouldn't leave mapping for a while just for this, I know its horrible to loose maps, I've lost some, but you have to keep going, so get to work right now <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
