Ambushing

<div class="IPBDescription">No debate, just a lighthearted post</div> Funny thing happened to me a couple of days ago. I was playing on eclipse,

and was basically the only marine who:

A) Knew where he was going

B) Wasn't a rambo.

Basiacally, I am the sole builder for the team. My comm tells me to go take

Feedwater (I think its that. Hive, in water.) He tells me to build RT, TF, and

roughly six turrets. I get there, alive(for some odd reason) only to find a

group of 4 skulks heading in my direction. I find a dark corner, and crouch

into it. Skulks go right past me, I whip out my LMG, and, thanks to all the

confusion, manage to take down 3 before dying. I couldnt take down the

fourth because dead, retarded chimpanzeees on fire can aim better than me.

Funny. I think.

Kind of like a role-reversal for me. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Why it is that commanders want to take a hive called "Feedwater" has always been beyond me... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Ambushing is a great strategy, for certain occasions.
    When being in persuit, or something like that, making an ambush is a great idea.
    When I play as aliens, and for some reason our team has got only one hive and the marinse are loaded with HMG, HA, etc, all I do is ambush. Just stay ontop of a door as a skulk, and when they bast I fall right onto their heads. hehehe <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If the hive was definately called "Feedwater" the map was ns_bast. Then again, if the map was definately ns_eclipse, the hive was "Computer Core". <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Then it must have been bast. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> D'oh!

    TBH I prefer to just attack. In Atmospheric Processing I always just run in and waste about 4 marines. They are so confused because I'm constantly moving. Do that with celerity and carapace and your laughing <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If it was eclipse and comp core, which i think it is, i could think of numerous corners our dear friend hid in...the glass on the west entrance for instance...just guessing.

    Those marines seriously sucked.

    ambushing is good and all, but i'd rather take advantage of a skulk oversight by sneaking away to someplace devious, like a hive seige location. Of course seiging isn't fast, and most likely the whole plan will fall through, but all you need is that one success <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Ambushes are a mixed bag. If the skulk sees you, you're dead. If you hide, its golden.

    If marines get coordinated enough to ambush, sensry chambers will be much more important.

    That is true, hiding in the vents near Maintance (can't remember the name of the map), hear a <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> come pass, pop out <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> on its arse & go back into hiding <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    An ambushing marine is a pain in the ... spinal cord.

    Right outside CC on Eclipse, there were one marine sitting and hitting us as we spawned. A real mean fellah. We, the poor skulks, had no chance of hitting him straight on -- he was able to take on three skulks at the time from where he sat.

    So, me and my sister decide to take him down. She's to hit him from behind, I'm to run arund and hit him from the side at the same time. Nicely coordinated (we have both computers in the same room), she rushes forward bouncing like a mad skulk and running on the walls, while I runs straight for him to the side.

    I doubt he had time to feel the pain.

    Flanking an ambush is always fun to do.

    Keep in mind that even if the first skulk runs by you, a 2nd skulk will still see you on hivesight, just for a short second.

    You can sometimes pull it off if you stay out of their viewrange, but if you camp in a corner and let 1 skulk meander around without shooting him, you can be sure skulk #2 will see ya.

    As a skulk I truely do suck but my objective, whenever I find a marine, is to try and parasite them. Any building, even random res nodes: parasite. Information can be, simply, the greatest power for either side in NS. Whoever has the best and most up to date information will, generally, be able to win. Now I might not kill that marine. But whereever he goes the whole team knows he's there. I might not kill that res point, but now my whole team knows it's there.

    There-in lies the true power of the skulk in my opinion. As a scouting-recon unit you can't beat skulks. I greatly look forwards to the new Scent of Fear <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Ugh. I've wasted much time sitting in a vent waiting for a parasited res tower at the end of a hallway to move so I could sneak out.

    At least now I know who to blame. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    lmfao
    i dont like parasited buildings. i sat for ages outside cc when there were about 4 or 5 yellow dots in there. turns out they were s couple of turrets and a few other buildings <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    although i did try parasiting a tfac to death once, siting on the ceilling of cc, none of the turrets could hit me, i just sat there and parasited away. got killed by an obvervant marine though

    Hehe.

    How many parasites would it take to take down a TF?
  • TuplisTuplis Join Date: 2003-02-24 Member: 13925Members, Constellation
    maybe 300 or something?
  • MrMojoMrMojo Join Date: 2002-11-25 Member: 9882Members, Constellation
    It would probably take 300 to take down a turret ;d Try a 1000.

    yeah I've para'd a turret before it takes a long time, I think it was a couple minutes with adren and another skulk
