Laying Low

Cop ATVs?!
Alright-

Today I hopped onto my 400cc Kodiak Ultramatic ATV ("Quad" or "4 wheeler" or "Quad-Bike"), and scooted off into the woods. Now, I live in a relatively small city; yet 'Quading' is a huge pass-time around here.

I just came off of a deep mud puddle when I shifted my vehicle into "High" (It's an automatic), and as I looked ahead of me, all I saw was flat grass for about... maybe 100+ meters. (This pass happend to run behind many people's backyards). So, I shifted into 2WD (Well, it's a button to switch driving modes... God I love the simplicity), and throttled it. I got up to 80 kph (!!) before I had to slow down for deep mud puddles and trails leading into the woods.

So, I kept going deep into the bush until I found a fallen tree of which I could not pass (Cliffs on either side of the trail), so I did a U-Turn and went back. When I got to the flat area, I saw a small, white ATV 'Quad', with a COP ON IT! (One of the people must have called him up or something... or maybe he was just waiting for me, who knows...). He looked at me and started up his Quad, waveing me down. I paniced, Shifted into high, 2WD and got my Quad up to 90 kph, and cruised right by him. I *almost* blew my engine - I was really scared, so I forgot to shift into 4WD Low to get through the puddles. (These puddles I usually go 10 kph MAX), but here I am, in a panic, cruising straight through at 30 kph.

I looked back to see the cop struggling with his vehicle. By the looks of it, he had a Manual - maybe 200 or 250cc. Mine was 400, so I toally blew him away. Still in high gear, I motored across the street and around my house, where I covered the Quad and ran inside. It's a good thing my license plate was dirty... but the fact remains: a person like me leaving a cop in the dust... a story I'm going to treasure forever! (Next time I'll go slower - scouts honour).

I know, I know - it might have been the wrong thing to do - but my trusted friends and family told me it was the right thing to do.

...I guess poor Sid will have to lay low for a while...
Thanks for your time,
-Sid

P.S. Don't call the cops on me! XD

so you paniced, drove recklassly, and risked your own life (not to mention that of the officer's if you really screwed up) ... ... just because? He was a cop... so? We're you trespassing on someone else's property, or were in some other way doing something illegal?

I say this cause a guy I went to high school with was on an ATV, he flipped it and snapped his neck, killed him instantly. You're lucky you didn't do the same

ROFL !!! everyone likes a high speed get away, though you should have drove in the opposite direction of him.
Stay indoors for a week, if they visit tell your mum to say your not here, but for i all, he/she could just say
thats it wrong to ride really fast and just give you a ticket. Don't worry about you won't get arressted or anything.

    Sorry about that incident DOOM...

Yes, Doom, I'm very sorry to hear that. next time I go out Quadding I'll be thinking of that; and drive extra carfully.

P.S. I wasn't aware that there was any speed limits for my ATV; and I was not on private property, nor did I drive THAT recklassley... but I'll think twice before speeding.

    Thanks for your time,

I think when it comes to the cops it's just best to slow down and talk to them, if you're younger generally an apology goes a LONG way.

I got followed by some cops for speeding (by about 5mph, i was lucky they didn't see me on a normal day ) so i pulled off down a quiet road, stopped and got out. They said "Are you aware you were speeding" so i just said "Look, i'm sorry dude" yes, i called a cop 'dude', "I didn't realise". They just said it was cool and that i shouldn't do it again. I was honest and upfront and they let me off. I was so tempted to make a run for it. I love driving fast, it gets the adrenaline flowing so much, great experience for me, but i actually thought rationally and did the 'right' thing.

DOOM, i'm sorry to hear that mate, can't really say anything else.

Yes, well, next time I see someone wave me down, I'll stop to see whats up... but I'll keep my thumb on the throttle, just incase.

I mean - why didn't they just send a NORMAL Cop to wait? Why one on a Quad? Did they know I was going to speed away, or what?!

Damn those Cops and their sneaky Phsycic... thing-a-ma-jiggers.

    i have 'troubleitis'

i attract trouble... serisouly.. no matter where i go people try to start fights with me old bill has a go at me..

i have a tense relationship with the old bill around here... my sisters b.f is like one of the 'hardest' in the area and so that has automatically tagged me with the same thug image... and so yeah.. they hate me..

the shop down the road which i visit like daily got robbed.. they came and asked for a word with me?! stupid *******

any violence or anythign and they seem to generalise it to my area.. like sister bf. and me are some kind of mob bosses...

i have been 'taken in' over 8 times. not once for a real reason. they hate me i hate them.
    but thats just my rant

i know there are a few good old bill out there... but then there are the ones who are like 'hmm i have heard your trouble anythign which goes wrong is automatically on you...'

well i had my bike license taken away for 2 things 1 riding a 250 cc when only allowed a 125 :S and 2 going at over 120 mph... eyah i know speeding is stupid.. rah rah rah .. it was my choice. it was 3 am and the roads were closed off (it is the sort of local drag strip)

and they took my license :S

but yeah i dont get on well with the old bill personally... so more power to ya

If they actually catch you; just say you paniced and lost control a bit, as thats exactly what you did. They should I hope, understand. >_<

It's not a good idea to run from cops unless you have actually done something. I remember last year I got stopped because cops suspected I was an armed robber (petrol station nearby got hit) and I was the only person around. I co-operated and after a few minutes I continued to walk home, no trouble.

If your on private property you can go as fast as you freaking want, unless the owner says you can't.

Nah, I didn't even really like the guy. In fact, he was really a jerk. I just don't want one of you forumers whom are a little better to get hurt. :P

My whole point was it was extremely stuipd of you to just dart off like that, especially when the cop may have just wanted something simple like to make sure you were old enough to be driving the ATV or whatnot...

Nahhhh - my ATV was in ship-shape. It's only two years old (2001 ATV of the year), and I bought it used off of a friend. It's so new the brakes are still being worn-in.

Next time a cop tries to arrest me, I'm running, no questions asked.
Went to jail for a bit for a fake ID.
Cops beat my **** in jail.

And that's why you shouldn't run away. Talk to them and let the formalities get over... Then walk away casually (provided you didn't really do anything bad).

I was quite casual, I didn't run. They found the fake ID, said "You're going to jail." I said "ok". From there it was all downhill once i got to county.

lolz.. see at my house we have like 2 acres of woods in the back, and sometimes people ride atv's back there and stuff, and whenever they do my mom gets mad cuz if they fall on our property and get hurt they can sue us... (we should get no trespassing signs...) so yeah.. but if im skateboarding somewhere and the cops come up usually im cool about it and don't give em trouble, but if i know for a fact im going to get in trouble i'll usually run away... (skateboards cost money.. i don't want em to take mine away lol..)

One of my MP friends was driving up here from Washington DC and was about to be pulled over by a cop.

He freaked and took off and left the cop in the dust. (He was driving a supped up Camaro) One of the funniest stories I ever heard.

My friend was sitting in a parking lot late at night with his lights off engaging in some illegal activities when a cop pulled off. He tried to creep off real slow with his lights off and the cop noticed him of course. The cop searched him, yada yada, found nothing, but still. That's like number 3 encounter for him with a cop, while I've never even really talked to one in my life.

My friend does some stupid things.

Yea something like that happened to me. I was hunting with a friend and an uncle, I walked down to the creek to wash some crud off my hands. I was walking back when this warden called over to me. I coulda booked it, I woulda got away too. I stayed though, he wanted to know if I was alone. I told him no, but before he left I geuss he got a shot of intuition or something, he asked to see my rifle. It was on it's sling, I gave it to him. He worked the bolt and told me I shouldnt be walking around with a loaded firearm. It is technically illegal, because we were within half a mile of a house, but they will usually let you off. He kept the bullet. On second thought, I shoulda run. Well, good job Sid.

lol... my friend stopped for a Cop, and if he "Stops kindly for a Cop again" he gets an $850 (CDN) fine.

So, say if I did stop like he did... I might be in debt. But I ran and blew the Cop off... more money in my pocket. Sometimes it's... money saving to run.
