<div class="IPBDescription">Do these mess with CD?</div> Few questions

Im talking about those scripts/ plugg ins (dont know what they are officaly called)
Were you bind a key and it pops up with in Team chat with stuff like Im at X location awaiting orders etc. SImple short stuf like that. (nothing annoying like I have x gun, with x this, and x amount of health etc) <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

So does anyone know any good ones and where to get them, how to install them.

And finaly, will they mess with CD?

Just asking b/c sometiesm when I use my Mic a lot I get dropped from the server and I have to reconnect.
Bleh

DOnt ask me why I have a stable Cable connection and no one else can tell me how to fix mic problem, it happens in all hl mods and only hl mods. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

AFAIK locations are already in teamchat for 2.0

    so prolly just
    bind x "say_team <<< I'm here"

and outside progs probably will not work w/ C-d

As for the mic problem sorry no idea.

Thanks for the reminder to fix my currently broken scripts ^-^
Anyway - AFAIK voogru has the %l thingy going, as well as blueyonder NS.

I don't know any off the top of my head. There's no client-side way of doing this automatically, but there are a variety of different ways of making a menu of locations pop up (the most efficient would be a +commandmenu script). None of the scripting ones would set off CD.

Putting %l into chat messages is not implemented in NS. It is in Day of Defeat, and it might be in a few other mods (it is not a built in feature of half-life). I don't know whether %h and %a are or not.

Finally, there isn't really much point in scripts like these becaue in 2.0 all teamchat messages will automatically include where the messager is.

Oh I remember the days of the old %vars, They're from the Quake 2 engine, There was loads, such as %e would tell you how many enemies were near you etc, but now, on most NS server I think you can only use %h - health, %a - armour, %r - res (alien) and %l - location.

I have a few binds for these, mainly just "say_team MEDS: %l (H:%h)", "FREE RT: (%l)" and some others like "We're losting %l" and "We have taken %l"

It'd be pretty good from a marine POV if you could see health and armour in messages in 2.0 as well, you could see if people needed welding etc e.g:

th0r0n^ (West Access Corridor)(H:23)(A:11): Need welding and medpacks please!

    Can this be done?

voogru has implemented it, flayra has not. it must not be very difficult to do, so maybe flayra doesnt want marines to have instantaneous robotic communication like that, it would ruin atmosphere.

What? And pressing "T" spending 30 seconds or so typing where you are and what you need back to the commander only to get eaten doesn;t ruin the atmosphere?
  • taboofirestaboofires Join Date: 2002-11-24 Member: 9853Members
It's mostly useful for telling other fighters where you are. Someone asks, "where are you guys?" and all you have to reply is %l. You can already inform the commander by using the voice coms, and he can jump right to you if he really cares. Telling the gorge where there is an empty RT would actually make good use of a location var, tho.

It's called get a microphone and set it up properly...I don't see how on earth using voice comm could drop you from a server, that's just very odd.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, well a voice comm is worth a thousand teamchats.

    Heck i have a desktop microphone AND a headset! Though i don't use the desktop mic anymore because a headset, let's face it, is about 20x better <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

In short, in a game like NS, having a mic is almost a nessesity. Unless of course you like having to type "$$%#% I was typing you stupid skulk!!" 5 times per game....

It's a metamod plugin written by voogru, and released (www.modns.org). Running on my server, though it seems to have stopped working lately, it may be thrown off by one of the later CD releases? not sure about that doesn't sound too plausible.

    At present, %h = health %a = armour %l = location and %r = res.

Only on servers running the metamod plugin.

    3 Points:

    - This can be done on servers with the appropriate metamod installed as mentioned by Roob

    - This is done in 2.0 automatically (Your location is shown in brackets after your name during all team chat)

    - This can be done clientside without the need for a metamod using certain client hooks such as sparky's.

The only method likely to irritate CD is the use of a client hook, which will almost certainly cause problems. Please do not refer to this as a script as that goes against the normally accepted definition of a HL script, and the miss-use of the word tends to result in an awful lot of stupid cheat accusations.

Client hooks such as sparky's allow various features that aren't normally available in HL. One possible use of a client hook is to allow the use of % variables, however the same type of hook is also used for ogc style cheats. Consequently, cheating death doesn't like them.

Not to be pedantic, but the first appearence of %vars was most likely seen in the early QW proxies. Which allowed the use of custom loc files in conjunction with %vars for tdm, and later on TF.

I wish cl_metamod actually worked with the latest version.. and with CD
I could see this being done for cl_metamod

FYI: cl_metamod is metamod for the HL client, not server.. its a pretty good idea when you think about it.. it also has a lot of ways you could abuse it..

Ahh, that's right, you COULD do %a %h in Q1, would just give a red, yellow or green dot based on your status.

I used to have a problem like this as well. I would be disconnected seemingly at random when I used my mic sometimes. I haven't encountered it for months, but I didn't do anything to fix it. Not sure what caused it, just glad it's gone.
