<div class="IPBDescription">About Config EDIT and stuff like that.</div> Well ithink its wrong, they gaved you NS and the first thing you do is taking the NS spirit away. (Use gamma-program or by editing in config)
So people cant hide from you, and sneakup on you, i wonder where is the fun in that? where is the challenge? Or making these fps changes so you have better fps then 72 why? so you will have an even more advantage over oldcomputer users. Ithink this config editing is unfair vs. newplayers and vs. the mods. Darkplaces on maps should be dark, use flashlight if you cant find the enemies. If you have to cheat like this then you aint better then tha noobs, i play the game with lower gamma just for the feeling i also have the NS music on for even more feeling. Thats the spirit of ns and you guys takes it away. Some people say like hey if you like it darker then play it darker and leave us alone, but the thing is you have no chance vs. highgammaguys some of them even change so its allmost white, and enemies have basic darkercolors for more frags. Thats sick those people really need something else in there lives. I know my english is poor but i hope you get this message.

Roger that. Editing the physical look or feel to ns is wrong and can often be considered cheating. I wouldn't call model replacing cheating, as long as it doesn't make things easier to see.

Gamma adjusters may get high scores, but it's their loss. Cheating always kills fun. Not only is it easy and boring to see everything easily, but the whole feel of NS is ruined.

ya know, a lot of ppl said that, but they never stated it as good as that.

i agree, it DOES take away from the atmosphere. but it IS their loss... i mean, we may die more, but we're having a helluva lot more fun dying then they are!

wait wait wait, I think things are getting a little confused.

Config editing doesn't make you a cheater, I play with my gamma settings so that I can atleast navigate in the dark but wont see an alien unless they move, which I think is fair. I up my fps because I can, and I will still keep them high when version 2 comes out, (i.e. I dont care about the jp fuel effect, but anyway this will be gone with v2.0). I perfer a higher fps because it makes the game look smoother.

I also change my net code settings so I can send more data, otherwise my cable connection would be wasted and I would be laggin like a 56ker (well maybe not quite that bad).

I also use graphical enhancements such as

gl_texturemode "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR" (gets rid of that horrible mip mapping line(s))
mp_decals 32000 (keeps bullet marks/blood marks/any other decals on the wall for a long time)

As you can see config editing isn't cheating, although it can be abused to benefit a player (this I would term cheating), it is a minority letting everyone else down (as usual).

before you carry on whining, have you tried any of these alleged hacks yourself ? do you even know what half the hl cfg commands do ?? unless you can actually prove any kind of knowledge that you know about these kinds of things i think most people that do cfg, lightly or heavily, will just ignore this post.

that last sentance sums it all up really :/

"you and your side haven't shown any indication of budging from your lofty place above us "config hackers" in the clouds of ignorance" < perfect description

Actually, it's the perfect example of how flame wars start.

Play nice or don't play, people.

Some config changes are perfectly fine. Some are abusive. Everyone has different definitions. Play the game it was meant to be played, and don't cry if you *think* your opponents may not be following your own self-imposed rules of etiquette. People worth playing against will play fair.
