    I also read once that without the moon the Earth's axis would be less stable and we'd have wilder seasonal changes. I don't know how accurate that is.

    if we lost the moon we would go spinning off into space on a random orbit like a comet, spending years inn the furthes reaches of the solar system and then, if you blink you will miss the few short weeks when we fall back to the sun, whizz round it and shoot off again into space

    why would losing our orbit lose our atmosphere? the earth ois moving really fast already(something like a few hundred km an hour) but we don't lose our atmosphere. Now what would be really wacky is if the world fell into a black hole

    as the earth gets too close to the sun, its atmosphere will get "blown" off by solar winds. the same thing happened to mercury
