Are You Following The Pr Blitz?

DreadDread Join Date: 2002-07-24 Member: 993Members
<div class="IPBDescription">Maybe you shouldn't</div> I've been leeching all the screenies, videos and every little bit of info on NS I could possibly find ever since last summer. Release of 1.0 was amazing really but then it struck me, I already knew most of the stuff in NS when I started to play it for the first time. I knew what Commander mode was, I knew the tech tree and all Kharaa abilities and now I wonder if NS would have been even more beautiful and mind boggling if I hadn't known anything about it.

Now when I'm anxiously waiting for 2.0, I get these flashback from the release day of 1 point 0. Maybe I shouldn't have read all the changelogs. Maybe I shouldn't have watched the videos and rest my eyes on the screenies for hours. Now it's too late for me, I'm already completely sucked in to PR Blitz and I really couldn't go on without the daily dozage of Natural Selection(dahm you) but I still wonder how amazing it will be for those who don't use forums. Or for those who haven't even played NS before. Makes me kinda sad really <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> And jealous. I really envy those who get to experience NS for the first time.

Do you ever regret following the development of Natural Selection?

Nope, because I've looked forward to both releases and can't wait to play <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> I get too bored searching this way and that for new information. I read the main bulk of it but I try not to spoil it for myself too.

Not in the least. You appreciate it more if you know what work went into making it.

I'm trying to memorize the maps and changes for release, so I'm following to some extent.

Not in the least. I was still awestruck the first time I ever played NS.

And at any rate, I'm glad I decided to follow NS and join the community; I've had a blast and met some really cool people.

When I first played ns I had no clue how to play and sure it was a cool feeling having everything new and mysterious to you but I also hated not knowing how to play. Now by knowing what is changed, I won't have to screw up a game by not knowing how something works. I wanna be able to get right in there and command, or gorge.

No doubt about that. It's an awesome community really, but aren't you even a wee bit sad that you have "spoiled" 2.0 by reading about it?

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->When I first played ns I had no clue how to play and sure it was a cool feeling having everything new and mysterious to you but I also hated not knowing how to play. Good point but now you know how to Gorge and Comm. In 2.0 there are several changes but the basics are still the same. Wouldn't you like to explore and find out all the new things yourself?

It's good to know at least the basics of what is going to change in 2.0, and especially when it comes to being comm or a gorge. Leaving yourself some learning curve is one thing, but being totally out of the loop can be a bad thing.

Then again when I first played NS I knew almost nothing, just what some of the alien upgrades did and what an armory was <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> . It only took a few games 'till i knew all I needed to know, and then some. You memorise maps and strategies quite quickly in this game IMO, so I don't think leaving yourself out of the PR blitz would make too much difference anyhow.

No cause no matter what the game is still amazing and you get a different game basically each time. It's also better to go in there and have somewhat of a clue what to do. Otherwise, you would be running around maps and the comm would be yelling at you to get to area X to save the double nodes. It's funny when some people basically don't even know that SC's cloak buildings <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> but I am glad im followniig the release and btw how coulld you just stare at a picture for hours... imean i know you were exagerating and all but i look at it for like 5 seconds and declare it done <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

im fine with learning all the new changes and looking at the cool stuff, theres no way of experiancing the same level of amazement and awe as the first time you pay NS. so i'd enjoy it more, being slightly better at the game then running around wondering what the hell is happening and getting confused with the new res system etc...

It enhances the waiting experience but don't you think it would be even more awesome to find out in game what devour does? Now you can expect it but when awesome things happen by surprise they become...even more awesome!

So it would be awesomest awesome experience in the history and would leave people in awesome awesomness of awe!

lol, Dread. The man said no! I guess we will never know, but I think that sucking in info like this is just as good as taking it all in at once at release.

And on a side note. I am going away three days before release and ... will be away for some time. no, i was visiting planethalflife.com about 8 months ago, and it was the MOTW, I was like "Natural Selection, sounds interesting...."

the first time i saw an onos i nearly peed my pants

same with the first time a skulk dropped on my head

or a fade blinked in front of me

or a gorge, ok, no, the gorge wasnt scary, gorge= teh sexeh

anyway, its an awesome game, and im an infamaniac because of it

thanks, flay, for supporting my neurosies

(<i>From Flay: these "neurosies" are what define this community, and we all share them!</i>)

Maybe it takes a bit of the surprize away, but also it builds the want/NEED to play it. You want to try out the new GL or Onos Devour, you want to get to fragging and you really want to find all the awesome stuff that has been put into the game over the last year.
I think it makes you more interested then anything else, plus it has the added advantage of getting you ready.

I started playing NS the night it got released, never heard about it before then so I was lucky I guess, but I hated having to figure it out cause things were..confuzzling. I wished I knew about it before that day.

In retrospect, I wish I'd been interested in NS in the pre-1.0 days. The original PR blitz must have been even more fun, because you had no idea how ANYTHING worked <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Overexposure is my only concern. I'm not paying any attention to the screenshots, but I watch the particularly interesting movies (skulk orientation, flythru). I'd rather just play the game and see for myself otherwise. I can wait a week <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Of course, if you have a ravenous NS appetite, you won't have any shortage of material now.

I haven't read the changelogs since 1.1e or something like that

I don't follow them, and I have been humping my 56.k to get the GL video and I'm probably going to go insane with joy reading the new manual and the second part of six days of sanji

I started playing NS day before release (no it wasnt leaked to me).

Ever since then I been a die hard addict to it, I think NS is one of the greatest mods for HL, right next to TFC. (Im a TFC fan too.).

Funny as it seems, I would agree with Dread. If you are already a psycho fan, sometimes it's more fun to wit til christmas day, as it were. The PR campaign is mainly designed to bring in new players and entice back 'fallen angels'. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

To be honest here, its really about preference. Would you rather be kept in the loop and entertained gradually, and have your appetite 'wet' as it were, or would you rather get one huge load of amusement. I think for many of us here the gradualism is a more prominent ideal.

Exclusive shots/movies to Community websites is a good idea - lets the international community see sites that they wouldn't have ever went to otherwise.

I'll I have to say is that when I first heard about NS, it sounded like it wouldn't be any fun. Then, I read every scrap of material on the subject, and it didn't sound like it would work. Then I saw screenshots, and became instantly hooked on the possibilities.

If there hadn't been buzz, and continually updated buzz, I would never have started playing NS. Sure, its quite different the second time around, but now making me stop looking at the pre-2.0 buzz is like trying to talk me out of drinking my hard-earned caffine at 7 AM. I'll either try and kill you, or die from the effort. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
