Open HLMV. If this is your first time using HLMV, you have two options on how to open models. -Go to View > File Associations. A new window should pop up, there's a dropdown box at the top. Select mdl. Now click the radio button that says "HLMV Default". Exit HLMV and go to My Computer or Windows Explorer. Browse to your ns\models folder and now you'll be able to open .mdl files automatically in HLMV when you double-click them. Saves time.
...or...
-Go to File > Load Model. (I hate this method myself because you have to browse back to the folder whenever you want to open a new model, the first method saves time.)
Now, you have your model open in HLMV. Click and drag the mouse to rotate the view. Holding the right mouse button while moving the mouse up/down zooms the image. Hold Shift + Left Mouse Button to slide the point of view.
Now go to Textures. There should be a dropdown box near the bottom of the HLMV window. This is where you select your textures. Click Export and select a folder you want to export to, and save the .bmps.
Open Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, whatever program you have and have fun with it. Once you're done, save as 8-bit 256-color bitmap.
Go back to HLMV, select the texture you want to replace with the new texture you made. Click "Import", and import the new bitmap. Click Save Model to keep your changes.

Jaeger's post is excellent and really helps a lot. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
sorry for the assumption that he may look at a sticky thats called "Modelling 101", go to the skinning part and then learn to use HLMV. My bad , I thought people read the stickies and would do things on their own :/
It amazes me how some people want to be babyed so much......
Well, he just joined in the forums, so he might not have noticed that "Modelling 101" thread. Maybe if you had tell him to look in there or posted a link to that thread would have been much more helpfull. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
