Its a program that speeds up your downloads!

Even with cable i was getting 100kbs.

NOW I GET 800KBS! Using that program!

It does it buy actually downloaidng the file from donwloading the file from lots of servers at once together!

Get it! Wether your downloadin stuff for the media blitz, Downloading huge mods, or just doing regular stuff it is the greateset!

PS-Usefull for 56k useres too because it lets you pause your downoad! Thats rite! So if your gettin NS 2.0 on 56k you can pasue it and turn the comp off, go to bed, wake up next day and resume it right where you left off!

3: Download Accelators practically never increase your download speeds.
Its down to your ISP and knowing how to use your PC properly and disable

Download Accelerators aren't worth the effort, most of them just use several simultaneous connections to the one file hence draining a sites bandwidth MUCH faster than would normally happen. A lot of sites will just kill your download if you have more than one connection happening....

You, my friend, are gullible. It's impossible to get 800 KBPS on cable, unless you have a 6.4 MBit connection, which I doubt you do.

I used to have 56k. Flashget is poo. All of my downloads were corrupted. Download Accelerator Plus was good because you could stop and start again, didn't increase my max dl speed though(it was 6kb/s). And h20, your not getting 800kb/s, DAP was good but not <i>that</i> good.

When you have 56k it's very useful. You don't have to start from the top if you get cut off.

i use a hacked download accelerator plus, and i love it. first of all whenever i click on a file to be downlaoded, instead of asking me that stupid "do you want to open or save" or possibly even opening it in the friggin browser, DAP simply downloads it to a prespecified place instantly. one click downloads are great. and my files are always in the same place so i can find them faster.

also, the server from which i am downloading often caps the bandwidth, so no tweaking on my computer could speed it up, but DAP simultaneously downloads four times, and my speed increases by about 3x.

i have gotten around 800 kB from it, although rarely, it has to be a very gullible webserver to give me 200 four times. many smart FTP servers recognize four simultaneous connections and cut off the latter three, in which case i get no speed boost. i also get no speed reduction so i dont care.

lastly, my stupid internet explorer is bugged. it corrupts a good 75% of its downloads, and i really NEED DAP to make downloads work properly.

I've had DAP for about 3 years now. Never had a complaint about it. It does what it says. Reduces download time and also has the ability to start and stop the file, depeding on the site you are downloading from. I'd suggest it to anyone. I have a T1 connection and i've gotten 1.14 mps before. The thing about DAP and HL is that there aren't many sites that support a program like this that distribute HL files. If you are gettin it just for NS 2.0, I don't think it's worth it. If you use it all the time, it can save a lot of time and headaches.

The biggest advantage of any download manger is that is allows you to restart a download that fails mid way and allows you to drag a file in parts from multiple locations and then put it back together thus utilising all your bandwidth.
the biggest disadvantage is that the majority of them contain spy ware or adware, cost money, trash your browser or ftp program, try to grab things you didn't want them to grab or just generally cause for hassle than they saved. Does it have anything to do with NS ? Not really no.
My choice for a download manager that wont screw things up too badly would be the one that comes with WS_FTP Pro or the one built into GameSpyArcade.

Do you need one? Probably not. They're a bit like TweakDUN from the dial up days, very clever but essentially toys for fools.

Flashget has always worked fine for me...

All download accelators, while allowing you to resume, DO NOT speed up your download, they use tricks like downloading in kb instead of KB, moving progress bars faster etc etc.

It's all a visual trick to make you think you are downloading faster, h20 there is no way you can be getting 800KBS unless you're on a sheet hot connection or you've uncapped.

h20, do you actually work for DAP because this is the third time I've seen you spam ads for it.

Download accelerators also do other nasty things like trying to open multiple downloads at once. This aint fair on the server you're downloading from.

Download accelerators = evil.
Download managers = good.
