<div class="IPBDescription">the future looks bright</div> Yeehello!

This is all you gota do, post a maximum of 3 films that you are anticipating the most and give some info about it, and why it will rock.

<b>Number 1 most anticipated film: </b>

<span style='font-size:21pt;line-height:100%'><b>Troy</b></span>

<span style='font-family:Arial'><i>Starring:Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Michael Clarke Duncan, Claire Forlani, Emilio Estevez, Orlando Bloom, Rose Byrne, Peter O'Toole, Brian Cox, Sean Bean, Julie Christie, Brendan Gleeson, Saffron Burrows, Garrett Hedlund, Diane Kruger.</i></span>

Director: Wolfgang Petersen

It's pretty clear what this film will be about, the glory of troy, achilles, hector, odysseus, and etc.

"Wolfgang Petersen will direct and produce this historical epic based on The Iliad, the Greek poet Homer's account of the Trojan War. Described by a Warner Bros. executive as a "full-tilt ¡¦ adventure," the film will focus on the battles surrounding the Greeks' plan to recapture the abducted Helen; it will also include elements from The Iliad's sequel, The Odyssey." -movies.com

So why is it going to be great? Well helll, with a budget of 190 million dollars and the largest production set ever, its gota be good. Its got a good script (read two reviews), a great set of actors, ehem...borormor...and brad pitt and legolas (girls will go nuts). No, the reason why I think this film will kick butt is because I love Ancient Greece and Spartan soldiers, their helmets and mane just look kicka$$, plus the action will be great.

Some pics:

<b>Number 2:</b>

<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'><b>The Passion</b></span> (been following this for a while).

<b>Starring:</b> Jim Caviezel, Monica Bellucci, Rosalinda Celentano, Sergio Rubini

Director:
<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'><span style='font-family:Arial'><b>Mel Gibson</b></span></span>

"The story is said to take place over the last 12 hours of Christ's life, on the day of his crucifixion, and will be filmed in Latin and Aramaic with no subtitles." -movie sypnopis

With as much passion as he put in Braveheart, this movie could be a sucess. I wonder how this movie will go with Aramaic language and no subtitles, my guess is that it will be a very vivid story showing the realistic blood, and no, it won't be another hollywood Jesus flick, where all the actors are albino white.

a description of this movie: "dark, heavy, bloody flick." -website

some pics: (beware, a lot of blood).

<img src='http://members.shaw.ca/orichalc/webpage/images/05.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

**here is a link to an very good trailer (beware, 22.2meg, long load, so you have to be patient, btw there is no loading bar):

<a href='http://www.aintitcool.com/ThePassion.mov' target='_blank'>http://www.aintitcool.com/ThePassion.mov</a>

Last movie:

Spiderman 2
starring: obvious
director: obvious
story: about spidey kicking octopuss's arse...
It'll be another great flick..worth the money...

Here is a cool pic if you haven't seen it yet:

    Yeah! I'm exited about them!

The Passion looks like it can be a really amazing film. Gibson didn't aim for a commercial success, which I think will enhance its appeal. It would be weird if this movie sparked some spiritual revolution... that'd be kinda freaky :-P But it looks awesome and I can't wait to see it!

SpiderMan 2: Droool. Doctor Octopus! w00t! Not to mention Green Goblin V 2.0!

    You forgot though...
    <img src='http://whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com/rv_img/revolutions_teaser.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    BAM! Lookin' good.
There was a theory floating around that the final scene of Matrix 1 was actually the end of the series, and that reloaded and revolutions took place before it.
  • kidakida Join Date: 2003-02-20 Member: 13778Members
Yea, what you said about the passion summed up what I would have said. Mel Gibson wanted to do this movie for like 10 years and is using his own money to fund it from what I hear..

But Matrix revolutions will be awesome too! How can the end scene of the first film happen after the first 2 films? Weird..

Simple. The first film's intial matrix shot shows the date as 2/98. The final Neo flight scene is dated 9/98.

    Thats 7 months...

I'm not really looking forward to anything, to be perfectly honest. The influx of **** comic book licenses and unimaginative films over the past 2-3 years has just put me off no end. Except LOTR, but as much as i want to see the last part, it's not really a burning desire, per se. This is, however, referring to the American film industry ....

On the other hand, Japanese films, i am REALLY looking forward to Battle Royale II (if it's not already released) and an upcoming film called Dragonhead.

Battle Royale II - Continuation from 2001's violent and extremely cool Battle Royale. This time it's war! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

<a href='http://www.dragonhead-movie.jp/' target='_blank'>Dragonhead</a> - A new film (and a total pain the the arse to find info for online) where in the time of a subway journey the entire of Tokyo is destroyed. Awsome looking post-apocolyptic stuff.

    EDIT:

Just watched a trailer for a film called Ju On (this is all i can find on it) which is another creepy as hell Japanese horror movie. Will definately be keeping my eye out for this one.

I'm definetely looking forward to Revolutions and The Return of the King, of which I favor the third Lord of the Rings, simply because TT was a better sequel than Reloaded (both didn't touch their relative first parts, but who is to complain?).

Apart from those two, I'll have to admit I'm rather ambivalent at the moment. Spidey 1 didn't exactely do 'it' for me (I hated how they reduced the female lead to a screaming fashion model.), and the rest of the mentioned Hollywood movies is from directors I can't stand, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

I'm noticing a recurring theme here. Is it just me or does it seem that not so many people are bothered at all by either independant or foreign films at all?

Then again, i've never been a big fan of blockbusters.

I have nothing against independednt of foreign films, I just never hear about them and never chase them out (other than anime, which doesn't really count, eh? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->)

    1: The Matrix: Revolutions
    2: The Matrix: Revolutions
    3: The Matrix: Revolutions.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to T3, I'll watch the next LoTR, but there's only one movie I'm eagerly anticipating.

Honestly, after spending time (and money) on indepent games and books, I'm usually just too tired (and broke) to try experiments in the cinema. Usually, I'm being dragged into some blockbusters by friends, watch a sneak preview or two, and that's it. I guess I just lack the stamnia to develop a refined sense for yet another subculture <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Well, that's exactly the reason they're "blockbusters"...good or not, people still pay to see them and with all the hype it's kinda hard to ignore them...I mean, when's the last time there was a huge promotional stunt (in the USA) with new action figures, video games, breakfast cereals, etc. for a lesser known film like "Ju On".
I suppose we're just lazy, and if it's not slammed in front of our faces with big flashing lights and a fanfare, it's not going to get noticed.

To be honest, i'm glad there's no 'Ringu' cereal or 'Audition' action figures. Hollywood corrupts films, take Ringu, an excellent film, now remake it in Hollywood and what do you get? Another cult classic ruined, that's what.

Just i would really recommend that more people spend a little more time looking at either independant or foreign films, that extra minute you spend reading a video box at a rental place could be the thing that sways your decision from renting a fantastic, quality indie flick than renting the newest big budget, devoid of all other content, blockbuster 'hit'.

    And don't let subtitles put you off. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

This is simply because Western cinema has to be so politcally correct. On top of that any film has to be dumbed down to a level that even the most ingorant viewer and appreciate.

For example: Card Captors on kids TV. Nice and cute ain't it? Did you know that they changed the title from Card Captor Sakura because there was a male Card Captor and that would be 'discriminating'? Sakura's last name was also changed from Kinomoto to Avalone... once again simply because it just didn't suit the 'character we were trying to achieve'. Lastly, did you know that Sakura's friend Tomoyo makes several hints at lesbianism? GUESS WHAT ENDED UP ON THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR? But hell, it was still shown with all the innuendo as a kid's show in Japan. Makes ya think don't it?

I'm looking forward to Revolutions and Spidey 2.

Personally, I thought X-Men 1 and 2 were 'okay', same for Spiderman and Hulk.
If they actually sticked to the real story, the way it all started in the comics, it would've been a lot better. The first five x men were angel, beast, iceman, cyclops and jean grey. Yet they run along with cyclops, jean grey and storm <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->. You can see gambits name in x2, wolverine, iceman, pyro and beast are all sorta worked into both x movies but they aren't that awesome and if you've read the comics it'll look like a crappy second. Same goes for Spiderman. Things didn't cut it. They were fun and stuff but meh <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

I honestly thought that Wolverine was a better fighter than what he is in the movies.

I also thought that Mystique was Rogue's mom (my x-men history is short, for being french and barely having watched/read xmen)

I'm mostly waiting for LOTR tho Matrix Revolutions and spiderman 2 are also on my to-watch list.

You're right on both accounts. Wolverine was trained in martial arts, and yeah I know he lost his memory but I'm sure that if you get pushed in a fight situation and you're trained to kill, you can do it way better than what he did in the movies.

And yus, Mystique is rogue's mom. I sorta liked how in X2 you can see the phoenix moving under the water, maybe a prelude for things to come, but again, not realistic.
