Parasite Lure - Simple Kharaa Strategy

<div class="IPBDescription">Lure them, they are only human</div> This worked wonders just before, thought I would share it, I cant see why this wont work with v2 either, I'm prolly beating a dead cow, as this may have been talked about before, but i've been a Lurker on the boards (Mind the pun) for a while, and havent seen it.

On NS_Caged (Generator, Sewer, Ventilation), we had an overly active Gorge, and he was setting up WOL's everywhere, anyways, he set one up just to the left of Marine start, right at the first door towards Generator. It was nice simply because it had OC's up first, then enough DC's to heal me in a second or less.

So I started helping the team by parasiting EVERY marine that spawned, I would hear the respawn noise, run in, *splap* (love that sound), or I would run up, hear them humping *splat*, Eventually I noticed that as soon as I tagged someone after they had humped for all their ammo, they would go Rambo because they were full of ammo, and I'd just tagged them, and they wanted revenge. After biting a few of them, I tagged a new humper and he did the same, came out to kill me, being down on health, I ran back to the WOL and got a nice bit of heal, but the Rambo Marine was still on my tail.. Walking straight into the WOL, being the Rambo he was started to shoot at the WOL hoping he might get one. *click* out of ammo, and sporting a new Skulk on the butt.

I did this for AGES, parasite a humping marine, then they would chase me to the WOL, maybe hit me a bit.. by the time I got there I was healed, and he used up his clip on the WOL, so I would jump out from behind and eat him.

It was EXTREMELY effective, because its using the natural instinct to shoot the WOL, and since they were pretty much indestructable from the DC's, its Win/Win.

Eventually they got annoyed with me and stopped chasing, but that was after about 15 kills, and the only problem with it, is if your up against a real crafty Marine who is a pistol fiend and manages to down you with the pistol, tho with Carapace its alot easier.

Any thoughts?

I agree with you, the psychological factor of a marine parasited... I mean, he knows he can't be used as a capper since he is a target, and he is a liability on any stealth mission....

He is marked for death. And often enough, he goes and hastens his own death. When I am marine, I generally will just hold a base if I get parasted and have any equipment, or if there is a respawn line. I also have had limited success playing skulks who think because I have parasite, I don't know where they are... MT anyone? heh.

But, more often than not, the parasite DOES get me killed. And even knowing and saying the things I've said, I still sometimes go and rambo since I figure I might as well get rid of that parasite and maybe take a skulk with me...

The aliens need something on their HUD like how the marines can tell that they are parasited. It would tell the alien that they are being watched on MT!

I think the concept behind MT is a little more subtle than a little bug that's been bored into your skull(what parasite is). So, no aliens don't need a notice that marines have MT.

Also, it's not that hard to figure out when marines have MT anyways.

Step 1: die from a marine

    Step 2: say "OMG Wallh4x!1"

Step 3: Marine says "MT u nub"

Also: You can accuse them of having MT researched. And most often they will say, "Lies!" "You're wrong," "how'd u know?" "shutup you idiot now he knows we have mt" and so forth.

    iopred you are indeed right,

It is a good strategy, it is helpfull to the team, highly annoying to the marines and it's fun to do ^_^

    But you're kind of beating a half dead cow <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Most people read about it in the forums, but they won't try it or see it's benefits. So welcome to the club of believers <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Imho, especially early game when you basically don't stand a chance vs a normal marine with a decent field of fire, parasite is HIGHLY usefull. Why? Well I think it's important to know where they are, and if they are para'd, you can hang around the corner, and you will have a chance to take them down if need to be.

    Cheers

Caiman: you are right. They usually have to say something because either they don't have it, so they want you to know if their teammate is a wallhacker by saying they don't have... or they do have it, and defend him.

    Then again... that's kind of abusing people's nature, so you prolly shouldn't do it <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo-->

anyways, if you are parasited and there is no spawn queue, /kill.

Not many gorges have the mocksy to waltz up that close to the marine base and make a oc/dc string. If you get one that doesn't get shot in his wandering about good for you.

Once again reloading has proven to be the number one killer of all marines, next to being spawned ontop of, third in the running is a string of neatly placed mines and an acid rocket.

Personally after you had parasited and eaten the first three marines I would've found a nice place to get a shot off of you when you tried it again and I'm one of those pistola fanatics. I hate the lmg, the shotgun, and the gl. If I had my choice I'd be carrying one of those new .50 caliber pistols Smithin Wesson is producing. I don't care what kind of carapace your slimy butt has one shot from that and you're wallpaper.

Even after I get parasited I have sense enough to not just go get killed, that is dumb. I just go along with the program or go look for the gorge.

Hmm, but any smart gorge would run when he sees a yellow dot getting closer to him.

If you're a good skulk player, and hide in ambush for enemies, you'll be able to tell when they have MT.

    Trust me.

Actually, parasite is Extremely useful, just as meatshield said, any smart gorge will run when he (she?) sees that yellow dot coming closer. para is most useful to the gorges IMHO. oftentimes instead of killing the parasited player i see coming at me (rambo, usually looking to be killed), i´ll just leave him alone so the gorge can know where he is. Play against me and armory humping is the best way to get your **** parasited.

    k.

in the early game i actually try to tell the team to not all rush in and try to take down 1 marine with you i usually say get them ****, and parasite them ONLY and run off, it gives a VERY good view for the gorge building and the teamtes, when i play i let them have thier :territory" as i see it. i let the marines move around in a certain area "like a pet" then if they get out of that zone they get punished "killed <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->" i do this by parasiting them and running away. also the thing to do is never challenge a marine in a LONG hallway where ur at one end and hes at the other becuase he WILL win. so u parasite and run, they suually come after you becuase there ****, very good strat.

I've got one more thing to say on this topic.. Skulks who pop out of corners parasiting the same marine over and over, or trying to at least. Are grosely annoying and rarely get any marine with two cents and no teammates to go after him. And the odds of him getting a parasite kill are about as good as the command chair sprouting rocket boosters and machine guns, then flying around the map shooting little and big green things alike. <b>But!</b> It is a good way to annoy or frustrate the marine you keep parasiting.. Only that's just a mean thing to do <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

See, the thing is, I have to have line of sight to the marine to parasite him. So generally what happens is, I duck back and forth around the corner spitting them at him, and while I'm doing that, he kneels and hoses me with LMG fire and I die. As the screen fades to black, I hear the bleep of him drinking a medkit.

I'm just wondering how many people don't use parasite nearly enough. When i'm running about as a skulk, i have parasite as active weapon all the time. If i see one marine, ill para him and maybe then go for the kill (if close enough) or fall back and ambush. If i see 2 or more marines (and i didn't totally surprise them), all i try to do is para them all, not to attack. If i'm lucky (or good ?-) enough to survive the parasiting, i go get some healing and come back with my fellow skulks for the ambush/attack =)

Knowing where your enemy is going and what he is doing is half the victory. (I was in reconnaissance in army <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> )

Oh yea, about luring with parasite. Get one of your fellow skulks to go hide in some nice spot in the ceiling/camping spot and go parasite a marine nearby. He prolly starts chasing you, so just run away. When he is concentrating on you, he wont notice your friend jumping on him when he passes. Works wonders, time after time =)

    got a question...

If your standing still, and the marines have MT and u parasite them is that counted as moving....so they know your there?
  • ChurchChurch Meatshield grunt-fodder // Has pre-ordered NS2 Join Date: 2002-12-31 Member: 11646Members, Constellation
If you parasite, the marines would hear the sound and most of the time have a clue where you are.

Yeah, really. If you can parasite them, that means you can see them. So all the have to do is look around after they get parasited, and they'll see you. If you move, you show up on MT. If you don't, you're dead.
