The HA is dorky looking
I think the animations and the whole look of the heavy armor is kind of dorky. HA Marine looks like he is wearing platform shoes. The arms are a little short and the body is small compared to the long legs. The animations are worse, the HA looks like he is walking on a string. It just doesn't fit with the rest of the good looking animations/models. So any plans for change?

What a dork.

I think any reasonable person can assume that changes to the HA have no chance of happening in v2.0. I'm just wondering if there are any plans to change the heavy armor in the future.

The only thing I would change about HA is the texture on the facial area. The HA almost looks frightened, especially when compared to LA and the aliens. Case in point.

Everything else about HA, including the animations, looks fine IMO.

I always thought that the heavy armor looked pretty darn cool.

The HA looks awesome. I should hope that in the future they can make big suits not be bulky or hard to move in.

the HA looks badass, it reminds me of the savior to the marines like suerman except its weakness is aliens , how cool must it be to be inside one looking through the helmet?

actually to be off topic it seems like your pretty safe in there almost looks like the safty of being inside a tank

HA doesnt have to look cool, the model serves its purpose of letting you know that the marine is harder to kill, the model affects gameplay by telling you this, not by looking cool... :|

So it were replaced with say.. a steel bear. That would be ok? I mean 1) its a bear and 2) is STEEL! IT MUST BE HARD TO KILL!

I aggree with the original point. The HA seems to slide around as if he's wearing slippers. An animation that factors the weight of the suit more into the movements would be good.

Just pointing out that a nice new model with nice new animations, affects the game in now way whatso ever. But then u used to play Quake and Quake TF, where the only way to tell if someone was harder than you (in quake tf) was by the skin the model had.

    Games arent about vanity.

You can't be serious... Are you telling me you'd still play the game if every model was a little girl and all the guns were water pistols that shot candy? NO. Visual appeal is just as much a part of the gaming experience as gameplay. You can have one without the other, but its not going to be a very good game either way.

Bit late to bring this up anyways, the HA is the same in 2.0, although i thought there was talk of animation changes through out the models.

It looks fine appart from when they get out the comm chair or go in water. but then all the models look wierd without swim animation, when they get in water.

2.0 gives the HA footstep sounds. I think part of the problem you people have with the model will go away when they're clumping their way around the maps.

As of the Gas Massacre of 060203, the TSA decided to change HA's helmets to include the spore filters.
    Darn early-on budget cuts.

Just checked it out myself.... Hmmmmm you knmow what? The HA and LA are the same size, it's just that the HA stands upright and the LA is hunched over. Also the HA's arms and legs are the exact same size of the LA's. Its just that the HA arms are bulky and make it looks short and stubby. Take a look yourself.

(Sorry about the pic i dont know how to make it so their arms and legs are spead open)

Honestly I don't like either marine or heavy armor running animations. For the marine, his leg strides a real big distance. And also for the fact that nothing above the waist moves, like it's so stiff. Something along the lines of CS's running animation would have been real neat. As for the heavy armor animations, it just looks to me like he's digging his feet out of cement or something. I'm sure walking in a suit like that couldn't be easy and would make walking look weird anyway. But I don't think that's the reason exactly -_-

It would be really nice if Flayra ripped off the CS animations

I honestly dont see how any of you could think the heavy armour animations look cool. They walk slowly, as if the suit was light as a feather and they were taking it for a leasurely stroll. It has only 2 gun holding animations, one with one arm limp and the other awkwardly outstreched (which holds the pistol, tripmines and lmg..? you try holding a smg in one hand completely outstreched, even if you did have a super-strength robot arm, your accuracy would be a joke). The other animation for the hmg, gl and shotty has the HA with his arms awkwardly tucked into his chest, so that the butt of the gun would rest directly in the middle of the chestplate. Again, this just looks awkward.

The HA never turns his body from his target, he is always facing dead on. If you were to go into any combat situation, your head would be facing your enemy while your body would be facing to the side and your gun would be resting on the shoulder furthest from your target. Now it doesnt matter about servos and pistons and all that that make the HA stronger so he can fight in these odd positions, our minds know what a positon of strength is in these situations. Even if he could realistically aim and absorb the impact firing from his chest, it does not appeal to our subconcious. Not to mention that in neither of these postions are the hands positioned correctly for the weapons.

When the HA walks, he sticks his chest out and swings it proudly side to side. Am i the only one that thinks this looks feminine? His chest and shoulder plates are located too high and too far forward, it looks as if he has no neck, is pushing his shoulders forward but is holding his arms back. Try and do this in front of a mirror, it looks rediculous.

When the HA shoots or is shot, there is no flinch animation. I can see the logic behind this; that he is so strong he just shrugs off damage, he doesnt even flinch. However, this just makes the game look unresponsive and uninteresting. There just isnt any action, there isnt any variation in the HA anims. Open up your HL model viewer and scroll though the HA anims really fast. Aside from the death and crouch animations, he has only 3 anims; the 2 stances discussed earlier, and walking. All of which look rediculous.

In game, its worse. Along with the cc and swimming bugs, he does hunch over slightly, but not in the way that the light armour does. Even though he is hunched over, the LA looks strong because he keeps his head up, he looks focused, determined. The HA's head is attached to his shoulders and as a result he is always looking at the floor, and you dont need me to tell you that this makes him look subservient, fearful, even weak.

In fact, now that I have checked the bones, he does not have a bone for his head! This is why he has no neck, this is why he always stands dead on, this is why his stroll looks so feminine. Looking at the bones for his chest compared to those of his shoulders and arms, his chest is held out too far, and his arms are too far back. When I started writing this, I thought the HA model was fine and it was just the animations that needed touching up. In fact, it looks like the animator did a good job with what he could, but the problem stems from the fact that his head is attached to his chest. He cant turn his head at all, nor look up or down.

Granted, the current HA model can look pretty cool in the right circumstances (the picture at the start of this thread is proof of that), but in game he looks slow, unresponsive, and just generally badly animated. If we could get the head detatched (not literally ) and able to move around, he could looks 10x cooler. Its all about the atmosphere.
