Question About Monitor Resolution.

Will high res wear it out quicker?
I just bought a secondhand 21-inch screen. I cranked the resolution up to maximum, 1600x1200 at 75hz. It looks great but for some reason i get paranoid that it will strain it somehow. So am i just nuts here, or what?

Well, theoretically, the monitor's life time will degrade slightly faster than if you would have a higher resolution.

So practically looking, it's no use of having a lower resolution on the settings, just to slow down the aging. As even if you would have it at all time at a high resolution, you'll buy a new monitor, before this one dies.

normally if it's too hard for the screen you get a "off range" warning and the screen doesn't pass over that res/refresh rate

If you should be scared of something it's the 2nd hand part, and if the deal is good (by quality) and you've checked the screen before hand, everything should be fine.

No problem. Go ahead and boost the resolution. As I said, the degrading will be faster by a only minimal percentage (2-3%)... Have fun!

The only problem would be that you would have lower fps in games, because your gpu will be working a lot harder putting images at that high of a resolution on your monitor.

Yup, gpu... Not to mention the cpu...

Last I checked, few to no games locked themselves to your desktop resolution. Check the video options/modes screens.

as for the low fps, [edit] KFS fot it right [/edit] it will be fine so long as he doesn't run it at that resolution in-game, but the desktop will be fine and that res

oops, i meant if you wanted to play with that resolution, assuming that you wanted to.

nub, a higher resolution will put a bigger strain on your cpu, even if you use hardware acceleration.
