    If NS was on HL2, then, <i>maybe</i>. it's all up the mapper really; if the mapper wants to put in a tram car they can, and if they dont, they dont.

    If we based what could be done in Half-Life on Jeepathon2k2 then we wouldn't have anything. Jeepathon2k2's vehicles suck because the map sucks. The tank in the Counter-Strike beta sucked? Well do you see anything sophisticated in Counter-Strike? No, because Counter-Strike is really a simplistic everyman's game. The most complex aspect of Counter-Strike is the buy menu. If you put some work into the idea it might turn out better than we believe is possible. If Flayra started out with the idea "only do what has been done" then we would have Counter-Strike in space.

    Yea really I wouldnt mind stuff like that at all. Or have certani areas of a map connected by a cable lift or something like that. Static linear stuff is fine with me.

    there are vehicles in NS... elevators :o. Obviously a jeep or tank wouldn't be viable in NS, but I bet something that uses a track or waterway could be implemented into a map and still have acceptable gameplay using the hl engine.

    One problem to keep in mind however in NS unlike other mods is that you can clog such things with buildings and such. Itd be funny watching an egg drive a vehicle too :o.

    OK besides the whole Vehicals dont work in the HL1 engine bit, think about game play.
    So, Your fighting on a space station and you fire a buch of 13.5mm rounds aginst the 2 inch plat that makes up the hull, do big deal right. Now you fire a 125mm cannon or maby a 1cm rail gun at said wall. Not only do you blow a big hole but yout probly going to destory the enitre base or statalite or whatever.

    Umm, it's actually quite easy to make 'single man' vehicles.

    Taking cue from another mod (I think it was a Warhammer 40K one), you can actually 'get in' the vehicle.

    Rather than it becoming a vehicle which looks cumbersome and awkward, it simply changes the player model into the said vehicle.

    Possibly you could have a small hover bike (onos size), with 2 grenade launchers and JP thrusting ability (would be stupidily overpowered, but you get the idea).

    It *IS* possible if you think laterally. The standard HL vehicles lag like crap when the server gets a bit choppy (200 ping+), I really wouldn't say it was worth it. <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo-->

    There is no way to make a marine vehicle balanced. Not without creating new alien evolutions even MORE powerful than the OHNOES.

    Really, we're just going over the same ideas. Allow me to sum it all up.

    You want a vehicle. By popular opinion the idea is good but it's impossible to make a good vehicle using the HL engine. End of story.

    F4F Cookie made a nice map with a train in, ns_overlord. its still not completly finished i.e. a few bugs i think but you can download it <a href='http://www.brywright.co.uk/downloads/index.php?action=file&id=40' target='_blank'>here</a>

    I wouldn't see this as a problem at all. It could add to the atmosphere to suggest that the marines just came crashing through a wall and started setting up a base. There would be no issues with the gameplay because the vehicle would be scenery.

    All you have to do now is convince a mapper to put one in.

    At some point i'll play around and see if i can make something look convincing.

    Isn't ns_hera based on a planet/moon? Otherwise I wouldn't think it would be too much of a stretch to make a ground base on an otherwise uninhabitable planet that got infested with Kharaa.

    Well the map i'm working on now, ns_deus (link to progress in my sig), is based on a large terraforming / repopulation space craft. I don't see the need for an armoured vehicle. But i'll find a reason. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> I've heard alien rocks can be pretty dangerous these days.

    Ok everyone is saying what the marines would do with it... but what if an alien got in it... Seeing a fade drive around the base... though it might be funny it could still be creapy.
