I Need Some Help With Teh Maps

<div class="IPBDescription">kinda....</div> Right, i know all the maps, but not by name. I know there are a few other people with that problem as well, so can anyone help? For instance, i know that if i hear "Sat Comm hive", i know that it's the map with Cargo, Reactor Room, Fusion Hive and Waste Handling.... but i don't know it by name.

Can someone post a list of all the maps, with each hive and keypoints on the maps please? That way i could try and learn them.

    The best way to learn the map locations is simply to run round the maps. That way instead of just a list of names, you remember what the places look like too which speeds up your memorising of things.

    If you want to clue yourself up on the maps without playing (so you know where to go when you're asked to get somewhere) just start a LAN game for yourself to run around - 20-30 minutes per map should give you a good idea of where everything is, and if you do it as an alien you'l get to learn the vent systems too.

    sorry, i must have seemed a bit weird there, i'll explain further:

    I know the layout of all the maps off by heart, on some of them i can run around just by listening with my eyes shut (hey, i'm just <b>that</b> good <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ) but as soon as someone starts going on about them in a discussion... I lose it. They say "ns_bast is good" but i have no idea what map they're on about. But say they said "I like the map with satcomm hive" i'd know the map, but not the name of the map (although i think i do know that one, it's tanith).

    Right... you and a thousand other people <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Why is it so important, you know the maps themselves, that's fine, you don't need to know the map name, but here go a couple (from the top of my head)

    ns_eclipse: take a guess <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Eclipse, Computer Core, Maintenance

    ns_bast:
    Engine, Refinery, Feedwater

    ns_nancy
    Subspace, Port Engine, Noname

    Ah.. just found my usefull link of map layouts, here you go:

    <a href='http://www.tribes2maps.com/ns/' target='_blank'>CLICKEH!</a>

    7 maps, map title, and map layout <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Cheers

    I had the same problem for a (long <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> ) while, I knew all map layouts very well and never got lost on them, but I had <b>no</b> idea about the name of the map I was currently playing on.
    And when people on forums started talking about maps like "hey I like ns_hera because... blabla" I never knew which map they actually talked about until someone mentioned a hive or location name which I recognised.
    That changed the day when I learned the stats menue shows the current map name, too! I felt so stupid... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> playing half-life mp since the days of HL deathmatch and never thought of that... <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Once I learned that I learned the map names within hours. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    My problem is the total opposite. I know the maps names but not the hive names or any other names like computer core and noname.

    I'm not so sure about this but, if you know the layout of the map already but don't know the name, you could always press "TAB" and look at the top left of the score board for the name of the map.

    Eclipse's south loop and power sub junction 3 are also often referenced.

    Also remember important locations often have short hand, sl and psj3 for the above example.

    On ns_bast
    AFT JUNCTION
    Build a set of OC right out side the rovolving airlock beside the vent and you shut the Marines out of taking that path, because they can't avoid the OCs and need to hit the switch to be able to move back, they are as good as dead. For good luck block the switch on the AFT side so they can hit it to avoid a certian death! Also you are blocking the main way into Engine Hive.

    On thing I haven't seen pointed out in the changelogs:

    In NS 2.0 the scoreboard shows your map and server name at all times...

    Just like to say thanks for that link Thing.

    I'm new to NS this past week and although I'm getting the basic layout of the maps down alright, I feel I'm not using the Vent Ducts, or the most direct route to an area as effectively as I could be.

    Ergo these maps should really help me dig out the shortest and quickest routes to team objectives.

    Thanks <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
