Ns_reign - First Shots

Well Ive been working on this map for hardly a week and I think its ready to get your opinions. I wanna know if Im heading in the right direction or not.

Remember, this is still VERY rough.

First pic: The Loop: basically sets a theme for the map. Around the corner to the left is access to room Seperation.

Second pic: Silo One: one entrance to the hive in the Server room. You can see the beginnings of the infestation here.

Third pic: angle view from Silo One into the first room of the hive: will be lighter soon.

Fourth pic: Junction Hall. Vent that leads to the airshaft in the upper right. To the left is The Loop. Room on top of girders for ^-^

Fifth pic: Seperation Access. Main airshaft on top with vent access. To the left is The loop, to the right is Seperation.

Eight pic: Elbow: Connecting Junction Hall and Silo One. Resource node located here is for sure. Vent access is a possibility for the future.

Nineth pic: Seperation Access. Glass breakable, but strong.

Tenth pic: Service Shaft. Running from back of The Loop to lower Seperation chamber (still to be built/dealt with).

    looks promissing, though something bothers me about it I can't really pin it down but it might be colors or the light, maybe it's just me.

    It appears to be in early stages, as you said, but somehow it is already quite atmospheric (=good). You need to add more contrast in the lighting (or maybe you have not used an env_gamma?) but the overall level of lighting is good. For some reason the pipes in the green slime remind of the original Half-Life and Opposing Force.

    Nice Map!

    The lighting is excellent (when it comes to lighting - darker = better.) Good Job!

    I especially like the first pic, I love the feel it gives off!

    Keep updating us and be sure to post the final product I'd love to use that map on my server!

    i think you could improve the lighting some more. One thing thats kinda wierd to me is in some of those screens you have these really bright white lights, but then the area around that light is super dark. It kinda makes it look like the light is floating, or its some kinda bug. Same thing goes for those consoles, the screens are super bright and look like they should be casting out some light, but the area around it is really dark. Also maybe try adding some colored lighting, some small red lights on the sides of the bridge's, or above your fake doors. You could play around with spotlights, where you can have a really bright pocket of light, and still have some of the area around dark and in shadows. Good start though.

    Picture 6 and 7 dont feel right. They look like they are from another map. I really like the lighting of the last picture because it has some color to it. The dark feel you have right now is so cold and scary. It looks like its going great, but if it were my map i'd remove the water room in exchange for a room with computers or something? lotsa of broken screens and a few flashing lights. ( love blinking lights). Can't wait to see more screens, mainly of the hive areas.

    Looks kinda too gray. But I'm sure that improving lighting would solve the issue. Love the vent shaft! Looks doom-ish.

    The toxic water, too bright, the monitors, don't give off enough light to the rest of the surroundings.

    Thanks for the feedback guys (both the posters and others who contacted me)

    Ive found my main problem is the complete lack of color in the map. Im going to start working on adding some lighting with more character (less black&white).

    I agree the sewer does somewhat feel awkward where it is, but I still want to keep it in the map, so I think ill be moving it to the outside of a hive room farther "down" in the map.

    Alright, well I finally cranked out my first hive. This is a ventilation hive just off the silo (around the corner-ish).

    Changes already: glow sprite replaced with those from ns_nothing, lighting upped a tad in the outside hallway, res node added in hive.

    have you adjusted the gamma level on these pics? because i can hardly see anything even with my monitor brightness at full.
