But I need some help on the Powersupply.
Okay, I have my new computer all set....It's almost time to get rid of this 600mhz peice of shizzle! I just need a powersupply. I ordered a 25 dollar 550 watt pwer supply (refurbished). I should have actually thought before ordering it, because, it came broken...and the company wont give me my money back or fix it. I dont care. So....If any of you could just let me know what is a Good and Dependable manufacturer which sells power supplies. (I'm looking for a P4 ATX 550watt power supply thats no more than 90 dollars.)

Do you really need a 550w power supply??

I very seriously doubt you'd find a good-quality 550w supply for under $90. If you don't plan on having a half-dozen hard drives and dual burners in your new system, anything over 400w should be plenty.

There's a few good Enermax 431w supplies for under $100 here.

Yeah, for sure 400W is po-friggin-lenty unless you are running a high-powered server with tons of cards and scsi devices. Grab anything from

    http://www.newegg.com

If you pay more than $40 for a brand new one with dual-fans, you are being rooked.

how about a 300W ATX for the board and an additional 300W AT for the drives ? (for you can get those old at for allmost no cost or you even have a few left from old computers)

Unless he has an oversized case and a custom motherboard, how is he going to attach a second powersupply?

you dont need to connect the atx cord to make the power supply go, just short the green and black cords and it will think its plugged in and the power button is pressed.

keep them crossed with a paper clip and you can just use the switch in the back at all times. i had considered that alternative to powering my waterpump and lighting system off a second PS, but theres really no room.

I'm not too sure how powersupply's actually work with the motherboard.

Couldn't you simply plug in a 2nd PS and attach it to the peripherals you wanted? Or do you need the PS plugged into the motherboard to regulate power or something....

I was gettting 550watts because my computer has 2 80 gig hard drives (booyah), 8 fans (booyah), and a 15 inch blue neon light (which isnt nesecarry....but....I like colors...booyah). You really think a 400w can power all that?

i have a 350W powering seven case fans, a pentium 3, a geforce3, two harddrives, a neon light, two EL glow strips, a floppy and a cdrw and a cdrom, and the processor and geforce's fans, and a four thermometer lcd display.

    your power source is fine.

back on the other topic. about PS&Mobo's, the reson he mnetioned it is that normally you need to plug the powersupply into the mobo to get it to turn on, you cant just ahve it there, because its always waiting for the power switch on the front of the case, which is plugged into the mobo. but as i said, to get your extra PS to run just connect the green and black wires fromt he ATX connection. try it, man, its very useful for testing powersupplies, because you can make them turn on without a computer present, only a paperclip required.
