    hrmmm thats odd i thought the more people on your team the less res you got, because i never started with 25 res(had to wait a few mins to become a gorge) on 16/16 server..... And yes according to PTers they are jump-packs in 2.0, but HA are more useful <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->. Oh yeah with 8 aliens even at 25 res its hard to get a lerk when the marines just get 2 nodes, get jp and HMG then recycle everything and rush @_@, or just get a node or two, get jp, then rush and let the rines knife the hive @_@. But when i played NS for a few months everyday for 4 hours(yes i love ns that much) i saw EVERY strategy that has been tried...... and jp was used most of the time and worked most of the time.

    The idea of JPN was to make the JP-HMG rush tactic not work. Together with [WHO]Them's changes (spawning in umbra, etc) the major "non-fun" but dominant tactics for marines in v1.04 are removed. See the <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=8&t=34997' target='_blank'>"1.05" thread in the server forum</a> for details on that.

    Yes, it would be better to make JP cost a lot more, or to totally fix the thrust rate for all users, but given the time available before 2.0 it wasn't worth spending the time on it.

    ahh i see, yeah the jpnerf is here to make 1.04 fair until 2.0. Although it may not be totally fair it still evens out the playing field. As in jp rushes are still doable on some maps, just go sit on the hive and weld away <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->. Also 2.0 is a whole new ns hard to judge anything about it when anyone non playtester or non dev or non veteran hasnt even seen a demo of it in action much less played it.

    Sounds like he fixed it anyway. I'll re-iterate tho, I never once had a problem with falling to my death with low FPS, just with this current jetpack nerf on the nano server. If he's fixed that at least fine. And people letting one jetpacker killing off hives!? Not trying to sound egotistical but what kind of servers have you been playing on?

    If you're sitting on the hive, the skulks should at least have a shot at killing you. If you're flying round the hive like a giant death bee and never have to land, the skulks have very little chance to stop you. That takes a lot of fun out of the game imo.

    Note that this applies to pub servers where the marine team is coordinated. If the marine team isn't coordinated, they have little chance of rushing and so this is kind of irrelevant.

    In 2.0. the posts I've seen from PTs and Veterans said that JP/HMG rush is not a viable tactic any more.

    That may be true, but with a 100 fps you can just hold down your jump key and you'll stick to the ceiling. But theres really no point in that, because its easier for skulks to bite you that way.

    Nah, I still don't buy that. One guy buzzing around would get rightly owned by a half decent lerk or 2, and even in 1.04 you should have lerks at least by the time they have jetpacks if not before. You just can't beat the feeling of flying around like a bird, it's what makes marines so sweet for me <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> (and yes I love playing lerk too :E )

    it doesn't even take a lerk in most hives. the only hive i have found it difficult to defend as a skulk (i.e. a lone jper appears without warning, so no time to evolve) is unnamed hive because of the odd roof shape, viaduct hive because of the large open space, and again with satcomms, although if you sit on the grate and wait for a reloc they are usually all yours. i imagine ventilation 3c would be a difficult hive to defend too.

    i'd hate to think that the development team were being browbeaten into removing some of the interesting characteristics of the game to appease a vocal minority. players have learned how to use the current jetpack to maximum advantage, and how to fight it too. as it stands, there aren't many options for successful marine play on public servers. impinging further handicaps is absurd.

    Ok. On nano, it is still possible to kill a hive with a JP/HMG. But...it is extreamly, I mean border on impossible. No, you cant hover. You have to jump around in the hive from high point to high point. Just jump, shoot. Like in maintence hive on eclipse, you can jump on the little lights above the hive for a resting spot, when the fuel fills back up, your off again. <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo-->

    The jetpack will not suck in 2.0 is what I'm getting at, as I see a lot of people think it will. You can already do tons of damage with the nano jetpack if you play your cards right, and the 2.0 is even more powerful...yay.

    Anyways, Ive only done that maint thing in nano once, out of the hundrends of times I've played there.     Oh, and Aezay. You can not hold down on the jump key and stick to the ceiling. Please, a civilian, just dont post anymore, its not worth your breath. I'll restate it one more time. The FPS only effects the THRUST rate, that means the rate that you go ZOOOOM! If you hold down on that thrust key your gonna fall big boy, fast. Just means if you tap it you'll get a lot more than us 40 FPS'rs. Your 100 FPS tap is the equivilent to a 40 FPS hold-down-on-my-jump-key. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    No, the FPS controls the JP refuel rate or whatever (thrust?!). It's a bug. If you had 10 FPS your fuel drains before you even hit 5 feet in the air haha.     With skilled teams on both sides, marines will win with JP/HMG rush 90% of the time, providing there's isn't a large skill imbalance. If that's a problem on the server, the jet pack nerf will fix it. Plain and simple.

    So, if you don't like it, your best bet is to avoid servers that are running it. On the other hand, if you're fed up of marines winning with JP/HMG, go play on a JPN server. The server variable you're looking for is jpn_version.

    Before the nerf, Marines were dominating 90% of the time, and 75% of that was 5 min JP/HMG rushes.

    Now HA is making a comeback.

    played a few games there last night, was pretty fun, hardly saw a jetpack tho, when i did get one after about 2 hours gaming it was well.... useless :/ i suppose its a good idea to limit the fuel, but u seemed to be able to do an extended jump and then land on the floor with a thud, should be made so it has a decent bit of fuel, but doesnt regen in the air, if jetpacks are same as nano server in 2.0, i cant imagine it being used much.

    A lot of times ( on Cofr at least) the comms try to not do jetpack and hmg rushes and focus on sieging or HA's instead. It's much more fun that way.

    Nano's jp nerf is just a little too harsh, jetpacks are still usable though ^-^

    I usually just use the jetpack to go hide when the Onos come. The best place to hide (in ns_tanith) is in the vent system by waste. You now if your comming from reactor room and you turn left and go down the long hallway to waste but right infront of you there is the vent opening? Well, you go into that and take an immidiate left or right... and sit right there. Tape your crouch button so you dont get cramps. And go grap some pretzles. Popcorn will do aswell.... I guess.

    You don't have to tape your crouch button.. just do it like the pros. type +crouch in console and you will never stop untill you do -crouch.
    Of course, this can lead to never respawning like many people purposly do on the seige series of maps.

    Rennex: So tell me. Exactly how often are jetpacks used in the playtesting right now? I am under the impression that if you don't tech up to HA and HMG ASAP, you will almost always lose. This gives me the impression that HA is kinda like the JP of 1.04 in the sense that people research it every time (although HA in 2.0 isn't as powerful as JP in 1.04 of course. You can't rambo 3 hives with it) and people never research armor/weapons upgrades and never bother dropping JPs either. Also, is it true that ONI can still stun you even if you're in the air using a JP?

    I'd hate to see JP never used in 2.0
