Yeah, you heard me MonsE!

Tiny lovers too.

Anyways, Comprox blinks this to off topic

Actually, no. Flayra tried to stop it and failed. I think the official names will be the levels, or possibly what their names are in UE, but everyone's still going to call them by their nicknames and every n00b who educates themselves to NS by coming to the forum will be told to call them by their nicknames.

Interestingly enough, *none* of the playtesters use the names "Bob" or "Tiny". Pretty much the only nickname that gets used (and it isn't really even a nickname) is "Builder."

I think once you have a "Bob" trying to rip out your intestines, or a "Tiny" mowing down your entire base in one pass, the names just don't really fit anymore.

I would also like to see the nicknames killed off. Yes, they were a fun replacement for all of 2 weeks, but they don't really fit into the game.

Names I use:

Lvl1 - Bob
Lvl2 - Builder
Lvl3 - Flyer
Lvl4 - Level 4
Lvl5 - Level 5

I dunno, I guess "Bob" was the only nickname that really stuck with me in-game.

Better than the original names!
Level 1- Okegite
Level 2- Okeg
Level 3- Nilrem
Level 4- Strader
Level 5- Artlu

Remind me how these names are logical? At least names like bob and tiny make sense

Because they're names of each species, perhaps? Maybe because it actually gives a hint of credibility to the background setting and universe?

I think an official naming scheme is long overdue. I'm sick of the bobs, sick of the pudgys, and most of all sick of the tinys (I was at least amused by bob to start with, "tiny" made me feel like hanging myself on my own intestines when I first saw it).

well... Level3 backwards is "Merlin." And level5 backwards is "Ultra."

Dunno about the rest.

Level 4's name has alot of meaning in it:

- Strader is Cory's Strader's last name.

- Red Arts is Strader backwards.

- Strader sounds alot like Strider, which methinks would be a cool nickname for the Level 4.
• FreemantleFreemantle Join Date: 2002-06-16 Member: 783Members
I think these names predated strader. Maybe. It was Flayra's OLD concept.
• LegionnairedLegionnaired Join Date: 2002-04-30 Member: 552Members, Constellation
okeg backwards is geko, but that beats me why they would name it that.

I say Bob in game!

I *think* Bob in-game...

...and Tiny, but that's more like "OMG Tiny!".

The level 3 is definitely "flier", no-one says "batty' or "flappy", it's always "flier".

The level 4 is still a level 4, doesn't seem to have a nickname that can stick it in combat.

for me, flyer, bob, and thats it. lvl 2's are not worth mention for me, only as shotty fodder. Level 4's just stay "lvl 4!!! in airlock!!!" etc . . and 5's . .well, noone needs to tell anyone that one of those is coming . .
• GencideGencide Join Date: 2002-05-30 Member: 698Members
Yeah, down with the silly names. I hope once the official names come out that everyone will start calling them by their true titles.
• LegionnairedLegionnaired Join Date: 2002-04-30 Member: 552Members, Constellation
OK, i hereby propose some new nicknames for the aliens:

Lvl1=Alpha
Lvl2=Builder
Lvl3=Flyer
Lvl4=Charlie
Lvl5=ohmygodohmygodohmygodohm....*static*

Ok, ok, but I think either name it something simple, 2 syllables or less, or name it after their function, for instance,

Alpha/Grounder
Beta/Builder
Delta/Flyer
Zeta/Blinker
Omeg(a)/Uhhhhh... Crusher?

I say let it get played and the nicknames will surface themselves. That's how it works with most mods, people make up their own shortforms for everything - CS and TFC most notably, I've found. Bob may stay, Tiny might stay, but people will come up with the easiest names... or they'll just call 'em by levels.

I use Bob and lvl 1 interchangably. I saw Tiny from time to time. There were some good Latin names in an older topic that would be perfect for "offical" names. However, I saw take a lesson from the name of the game and let Natural Selection choose the nicknames.

This is such a difficult task, but this thread is forcing us to decide. We've been talking about them for quite some time now, but been unable to make a decision.

We'll probably release the official names shortly.

And just for history sake, at one point Flayra suggested Flayra for an alien name, and he said it WAS not cause oif the obvious reasons... suuuuure
