    When you say you "had to restart my PC last week" do you mean reinstall windows or just restart. If you just had to restart, then why did you have to reinstall your video drivers?

    If you had to reinstall, then yes, try going back to your older video drivers, or any other drivers you may have upgraded.

    Let's backtrack here a bit. Why did you reinstall?

    Are you sure your computer is not simply blue screening and restarting automatically?

    To see:

    Start | Programs | accesspries | windows explorer
    right click My computer and select 'properties'
    click advanced tab, then 'settings' under startup and recovery
    Under 'system failure', UNcheck 'restart automatically'.

    Then do whatever it was that caused the reboot. You will probably see a big ol' Blue Screen of Death. If so, let us know and we can get your minidump file, then examine it and figure out what's causing the problem.

    Did you:

    o Install the chipset drivers for your motherboard?
    o Install the latest DirectX?

    Does it only crash in NS?
    Is Windows stable?

    right found out that its my audio drivers trying to write to read only memory

    that are causing the restart. so i've reinstalled them and i'm downloading the latest set see if that help

    thanks so far for the help

    I dont know if its the same problem. my pc rebooted ingame without any warning. I tried serveral solutions that were posted but all had the same outcome. After this i started to check the temprature of my pc while i was playing NS. I discoverd that the temp was quite high. i have an athlon xp 1900. also i heard that NS uses alot of CPU time. now i play with my computer case open and i never had an restarting problem since.

    A better solution to your cooling problem may be to install 2 case fans. One at the front of your case (sucking {hopefully} cold air inwards, from outside) and one at the rear end of your case (blowing hotter air out, acting as an exhaust). This will often give you better cooling results than simply opening the case.

    ok, first up:

    PLEASE if you have a problem, don't piggy back onto another thread, it just makes it kinda annoying for us

    now, as for your problem, if you are over heating you have some serrious issues.
    1) Do you have a heatsink and a fan on your CPU?
    2) fan on your gfx card?
    3) what fans do you have in your case?
    4) Where do you live? (like whats the normal temps in your computer room?)
    5) Have you cleaned all of your fans? (get a bottle of compressed air and clean all of the dust out of your fans)
    6) make sure your fans actualy ARE sucking/blowing (I have run into casses where the fans just simply were not doing anything)

    you really shouldn't have to run with your case open, infact running with your case open is a bad idea. You will get much more dust in there and raise the probability of someting bad happening to your hardware.

    And, the air won't flow properly over the various components, thus actually reducing cooling.

    investing in a new fan would be a good idea, or adding a second fan.
    I have a large 4 inch fan for just my processor and then 2 for my case, 1 on my GFX card, 1 on my sound card. I'm only running a P3 866, its over clocked so I upped the number of fans.
    Keep the case on like they said, just make sure you have good air passage, that way your case acts like a wind tunnle!
    Try getting new heatsinks, but a Bigger fan or a second fan is your best bet.

    a 4 in fan on your processor <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--><!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    aint that sorta big??

    all I have is a fan on my cpu (and a heat sink) a fan on my vid card, possibly one on my sound card (do SBLives come with one?) and a case fan.

    My other computer actualy only has 1 fan, a case fan <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    then again it is water cooled <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
