56k Becoming More Slow Than Other Things?

XiaoXiaoXiaoXiao Join Date: 2002-11-21 Member: 9543Members
I don't know if it’s my provider or my computer but my 56k is becoming slower and slower. I can't even play online games anymore. Does anyone have the same problem?

    If you're experiencing performance decreases you should change your ISP, or *gasp* upgrade.

    It's probably a conspiracy, like putting the prices of 56kb up so there isn't such a big difference between that and broadband

    <a href='http://www.5star-shareware.com/Internet/Dial-Connect/intelli-dialup.html' target='_blank'>Intelli Dial-Up</a> is a great program. Speeds up dial up connections and is free. I used it all the time when I had 56k. I don't need it now cause I have broadband <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I've been on 56k for...6 years now (gaming), and over the years, internet has gone extremely slow. I remember downloading at like 8kb with my modem...now its like 1-3 (3 if i'm lucky). I can't get anything faster out here cuz i live in the boonies....****. About 2 years ago, I could play half-life and all its mods with 160 ping. Now its like 400+ <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    yes the world is being saturated with these high bandwidth bloatware hogs. nowadays youll never see a 56,000 bps modem get above 33,600 bps.

    I was p****d off for ages because they didn't have broadband in my area <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Then I found out you can get ADSL in this area.... YAY!

    Took a while to convince my parents, but eventualy they realised it was only about ?10 a month more expensive than our old provider (since the phone calls are free too).

    So I don't have to worry about this sort of thing <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    <b>*Explodes</b>

    Repeat after me.

    "There is no such thing as Broadband. There is no such thing as Broadband. There is no such thing as Broadband. "

    It's a term made up by pony tailed PR goons. It's relative. 56k is broadband relative to tying notes to carrier pidgeons & setting them towards your ISP.

    "There is no such thing as Broadband. "
