<div class="IPBDescription">'s not that hard!</div> Hey there:
I'm kinda shy, so I'm never commander.
I'm one of the normal, building, killing marine types.
Now, as a marine, I would expect us to be tough as nails. But time and time again I see the guys on my team get mowed down. Why. Complete and lack of resourcefullness.
The guys out there that don't die without at least giving skulks a run for their money, look away, this message isn't for you. This message is for the marines and utter newbs that think they're too good for the knife.
Quick Flashback:
A while ago, on a LAN game. The marines were already developed and we had HMG's + HA. But so were the aliens. I find myself in a corner, with a grenade launcher, being faced down by an angry onos. I nail it with grenades, and it is still alive. I charges, I have no ammo at all. So I take out my knife in a desperate attempt to kill it. And I do. I survive, we kill the hive, we win.
Now, what woulda happened if I didn't use my knife? I'd be dead. Which is what I see over and over again being done by a couple of players. Guys! If ur building something, instead of the LMG, take out ur knife. If a skulk jumps on you, stab it! A couple of swipes'l take it down.
The knife ain't just a last resort, it is also an effective weapon to be used in circumstances where the enemy is getting too close for comfort. Iv'e seen to many marines die because they were reloading and a skulk went up and bit them.
This is just my stupid request to non-knife users. It's there for a reason. Use it. Thank You!

Less than a couple <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> bites and you're dead. The skulk will almost always win unless he drunk and disoriented, and you're bunny hopping around.
You should only use the knife when both your lmg and pistol need a new clip, and you know you'll be dead before you reload. Even if you have mines and an empty lmg, drop those mines. At least you'll REALLY **** off a skulk that doesn't see them later on. The knife does 30 damage, a skulk bite does 75. Do the math.
Oh ye, non cara skulks take 3 pistol shots and a knife hit ... thats how to rack up the knife kills <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
On this point you are wrong - as a skulks I love how foolish marines knife RTs alone , a silent approach from above generally grants a free kill.
A knifed structure stays on the hive sight for VERY long so unless you have teammates covering your back it is highly likely that a skulk or lerk will puncture your posterior in no time.
I can't understand why armory humpers attack structures to "save ammo" ... ammo has a use ffs. Unloading your lmg and pistol clips on a RT renders you somewhat vulnerable for 2 seconds , knifing it makes you vulnerable for a minute. It is WAY faster to destroy the RTs with lmg and pistol , so even if you face a few skulks with only your knife after you destroyed the RT , it is well worth it.
Oh , and people who knife the hive do it for fun , they stand no chance in the hive room whatsoever. Should a squad reach the hive , they would empty their clips in its belly.
and it takes 2 bites for a skulk and about 3 slashes of the knife to kill a skulk <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
You're right, the proper thing to do is jump on top of the RT and crouch. Look towards the base and slam your knife for a good 15 seconds. Wait for a curious skulk to come by. Empty a clip before he even has a clue of where you are. Reload. Wait for another skulk
I love doing this on public servers, the bewildered skulk will undoubtedly accuse me of "hax!" Ha, he's usually the one with the "[NO-CD]" prefix.
1. Have about 4 pistol bullets (8 if level 3 cara)
2. Find a silly skulkie.
3. Unload on him with your pistol from a good distance away
4. With hud_fastswitch on, pull out your deadly chopstick and poke the evil doggie.
5. Usual end result: one dead and **** off skulk
6. Repeat as many times as needed before you are called a hacker <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
We were just messing around on one of the redphive servers I think. Aliens got their 3 hives, we built some stuff etc, but generally it was just playing with the aliens in the glass tunnel near marine start in hera.
I decide since we're going to lose anyway to ditch all my weapons. Can't drop the knife (being able to throw it at an alien would be cool, though. Ninja marines!), so I run around slashing with that. Around the corner comes a pair of skulks. I just circle one of them with my now uber fast marine skillz, and down goes one skulk. Second skulk eats me, but not before I get a few slashes in.
Knifing a Fade is hard, though. I can't seem to get a hit, even when I'm running into the model and slashing. This a hitbox thing?
I'd say that knifing fades or even an onos is nonsense , it has to be a brilliant marine player vs a total newbie. Else the marines are exploiting collision bugs.
But u gotta admit, knives have as much personality as shotties <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
u dont think crouching in imposible to hit corners isnt cheap?
It really is an art form.

I totally agree with that, since they changed it to that you walk slower while backpedalling---like in real life. You should get in range, also wiht attaing buildings, unless you have teamates covering you,as one person said earlier, but in publics people are usually knifing it with you and your back is clear for a kill rendering you very vulnerable, since teh aliens get notified if a structure is being attacked, and that skulks are very fast <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> . so rely on your weapon <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> rather than your knife out to kill structures
If you instead opt for shooting at a res tower you waste about 200 shoots or something getting it down and you have to reload. The smart skulk would wait while you empty your clip and then rush, end result is almost guaranteed skulk food. When I am alien I like nothing better than people unloading all their ammo at a structure and having to reload.
I allways knife structures early in game if the commander doesn't give me orders to do anything(you know one of those pub games where the commander doesn't care to give that many orders and everyone is just running around doing their own thing most of the time?) because it distracts the enemy early in game, hurts their economy and gets you a few free kills. When they get a second hive up is when I stop knifing enemy structures if there is no one guarding me(because of leap, web and fades among other things).
I use knife as a last resort since I find ranged attacks much easier and the welder is just plain more fun if I got one. Only when I have nothing at all whatsoever ready for use would I use the knife as a weapon. And I find trying to get knife kills by 'softening' skulks up with 3 pistol shots first or whatevers as previously suggested to be very cheap. I mean your not playing against someone you hate, you are just playing a friendly(-ish) game against someone you've never met <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->, no need to go out of your way to **** them off.
**disclaimer: my point of view might not necessarilly coincide with yours but this is nothing to get distrought or even mildly upset about, I'm just some dude you don't know anyway <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->**
Hehehe... agreed...
SOUND IS YOUR FRIEND!
I still get called hacker because I use my sound to determine the location of skulks around corners and walls and stuff.
The difference between a stealthy skulk and a stealthy marine:
Skulks CANNOT silence their footstep sounds until they get movement chambers. Marines can do this by crouching. They may be able to hide up on ceilings and stuff, but they're still real noisy. Marines actually have the potential to be more sneaky early in the game because they can move silently.
So, USE YOUR SOUND! IT'S NOT JUST THERE FOR AMBIENCE!
Edit: Most people I knife after softening up with the pistol were usually VERY not nice in the first place, so I will go out of my way to try and make them mad because they can't watch their manners and be nice. They've always gotta go and insult people just because they don't play EXACTLY the way they do.
