Unfriendly Servers

Hey guys im currently on my second day of ns and ive polayed about 2 games cause most of the time i try to join stuff and the server gives me a message saying host error : cl - parse version protocol 12349874 blah blah instead of 46. What does this mean.

ALso this games hard as all classes for me whats with that, and how do you get heavy armour when its not lying on the floor, and in fatc when mmines are lying on the floor why wont my guy pick them up. anyways cheers

I don't know anything about the protocols so I can't help you.

To get heavy armour the commander has to drop it. You may have heard some references to a 'comm', thats the commander. He sees the whole level and he drops equipment for you. Don't annoy him and he will probably drop some stuff for you when he can. The commander's name is at the top of the screen.

As for the mines you have look. If they are laying horizontal to the ground that means they are deployed and you can't pick them up. You can walk over them though. If they are laying vertical to the ground you can pick them up and deploy them. If you put them on the wall they become trip mines.

I'm not going to say rtfm, because that's not nice and the manual isn't very good.

As a marine, you cannot get your own stuff. The only thing you can get by yourself is ammo, by holding down your use key on the armoury (the tubby green building). The commander has to drop you any other kind of supplies - health, weapons, or equipment. The commander plays the game like a real time strategy (think of Warcraft) and gives marines orders. It is to your advantage to follow the commander's instructions - he can see the whole picture, you can only see your little bit of it. Follow orders, do not pester the commander for equipment, and god help you if you ask for an AWP <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>.

hey guy if ya need help learning just join the deadclan graveyard we are a very new players friendly server I take pride in teaching new players and all our clan is required to pass on the skills they have learned we my not be the best ns players out there but we do like helping the comunity.

use ase or gamespy or the start menu to play ns the desktop icon is bugged

The protocol error is caused when one joins a cd-required/cd-optional server, leaves, and then joins a non cd server. Just quit back to your main menu to solve this.

EDIT - Oops yeah the above poster is probably right about your problem. Just delete the icon on your desktop and use the on in your start menu as said above.

if you are habing problems with unfreindly servers download CD from www.unitedadmins.com and come to the Clan TW@ server. use something like hlsw to see when there are some [TW@] ppl playing, usually late evening GMT. IP in sig

donno where u live , but for any one lookin for good servers annd 3 blueyonder servers are top class for skill and community, any problems talk to a [BYNS] dude or an admin

[edit] most people seem to believe it's C-D or you using the desktop icon that installed when you installed NS. How to solve this- update C-D, don't use the desktop icon (or at least edit it so it's correct). [/edit]

Correct.

Downloading the latest version of Cheating Death will solve his problem (it's not the buggy desktop shortcut problem).

This is a well known issue and the fix is clearly visible in the tech support forums.
