CD normally quits HL if you try to connect to a VAC secured server.
My main problem with VAC is that it detects some cool programs as cheats, such as HLirc and HLamp. Meaning that if I played on VAC servers I'd be banned
Well iv done HLamp on many vac servers and havent been banned yet. Iv also head that vac works of looking for a list of file names that have been clasified as cheats/hacks, so that could be reason why.
You know what? I have NO SYMPATHY at all for people who complain about VAC, CD, HLGaurd, or the like. Why? BECAUSE YOU HAVE A CHOICE! Nobody is forcing you to play on a VAC or CD server. If you don't like them, then don't play on servers that use them!
It's quite simple really. You people have nothing to complain about.
VAC does not seem like a very good choice to me, the CD crew seems to keep up to speed with new cheats pretty well, and VAC bans on its own? It seems to me that should be the choice of an admin not a piece of software.
Ive seen too many anti-cheat programs make mistakes in the past, I just wouldn't trust one with that much power.

This choice is also known as "Hobson's choice"... Indeed, nothing to complain about.

Guspaz: Chill man... What if you don't know you just went on a VAC server? Not everyone uses ASE. I don't complain for anti-cheats. I complain for the possibility of being banned without notice/warning without having done anything wrong.
Cheating Death used to freeze me in the middle of my game and tell me to quit a modification. I would be like, WHAT F***ING MODIFICATION!?!?!
Cheating Death used to crash Half-Life immediately on a CD server, and if I joined a regualar server it made scrolling as commander impossible. . .
Thank God for v3.20
I haven't had anything wrong with VAC, but I do run HLamp and use it all the time.
Anti-Cheats should:
A) look for know cheat files . . . B) have these files updated regularly . . . C) be thorougly tested to make sure we don't have any bugs, not mention names *cough* Cheating-Death *cough*
Or you could have read and found out that the HLamp thing was a mistake that has been fixed. Duh.
Anyway, the benefit of VAC is that the bans are *global*. Get caught cheating and you will be banned from ALL secure servers. Therefore it is the most potent cheating discouragement and punishment available.
CD on the other hand blocks all known cheats but does not attempt to identify or ban them, making it the best method of keeping a single server *cheat free*.
