You can never have too much infestation.. But the architecture looks great.

i suggest you make it darker and use some lightspots to make it scary (ns_caged you see). Also, use triangular brushes to create some infestation "blocks" kinda feedwater, Delta core, etc...

keep up the work.

Needs more infestation. This looks like a room on the way to the hive, not the hiveroom itself.

the bottom needs volumetric infestatiuon hills.

It hardly looks big enough for 16 player spawn points, seperated at a safe distance from each other.

Have you need keeping up with the changes on the way in 1.1? If the marines manage to put an electrified res-node in there it'll fry any hives built there.

I get the same feeling as the other people who've posted, it too clean, well maintained and brightly lit. If those are your own custom textures I suggest air-brushing some low-opacity (~10%) infestation over your infested textures, it will help the overlay look more natural.

I like it, needs to be a bit bigger, but otherwise, very nice.

There is an 'infestation toolkit' for Photoshop out there...somewhere to cover your own texteures with this slimy green stuff.
@ChromeAngel: Have you ever seen a gorge build a hive next to a marine res node?
I mean: Maybe this precaution isn't necessarry. *pullsoutcalculator* hmm with a damage of 25 healthpoints a hive of 6000 hp would need 240 bolts to become fried. If it is one bolt per sec and the hive hp haven't changed that makes 4 minutes for the aliens to cope with da threat. Ok if the res tower was there before no gorge would build a hive before the rt is history. If the hive was there first it would take some time to upgrade the res tower so the aliens have time to eat it.

Thoughts are as followed:

- This is alien infested area, in my opinion the lighting doesn't match that and it's far too light. I think having it darker, some red highlights would vastly improve the ambience. I associate alien infestation with... err well destruction, things not working and dark gloomy lights and that just isn't it.

-Picture 3 shows it as quite cramped. Again this is another issue of personal preferance however i think tight hives are just cruel and things get quite ugly when the marines starting popping up. You could copensate for this by having some more shadows on the ceiling so skulks have somewhere to hide and it won't feel as claustrophobic. (unless you wanted that in which case well done)

Ahh brilliant. Having just read through everyone elses comments i've noted all these points have been covered. Rather than being pedantic and looking for something different to comment on i'll leave you with my thoughts as i wrote them first.

I agree with the rest of the points that have been listed. I just wanted to throw out that doing some func_illusionary ceiling infestation that hangs all over really adds to the ambience, gives a good reason for bad lighting, and makes that skulk on the ceiling trick SOOOO much more effective. In addition no one seems to carpet their ceilings with infestation.

Other than that, I like it.

That is very beautiful, I like it, it may be a little small though.

I don't want to judge the size of this hive before I played it. It does look a little small. But I do like those slanting crevices and the raised res node.

I aggree with the others: Put up more infestation. especially on the floor and ceiling. The infestation you have on the walls so far looks really good though. Also make the lighting a bit more creepy. It's not about dark but the contrast of generally dark and some bright spots.

I also would have liked to see some shots of the entrancers to that hive, maybe put in some vents?

Oh, and the suggestion about the broken architecture, it's a good idea!

I have read all you comments now and have to say that there were some really interesting and useful ideas. I have made some changes to the hive now, based on your comments, which can be seen on the pictures below.
And about the size of the hive, maybe I should have said this earlier, but this map is designed to be quite small and to suite 6-12 players, and it isn't really as small as the pictures makes it looks like.

ChromeAngel: To be honest, I haven't though a second about the "electrified res node"-thing. I'm not too familiar with the changes in 1.1, and I'm glad you pointed it out. But as this map most likely won't be release until long time after release of 1.1, I will definately do some beta-testing, to see if this is something that must be fixed or not. Anyway, thank you for pointing it out.
Sorry for my bad english, but I hope you guys understand...
Ok, here comes the stuff you want, the pictures:

2: I have added an hole in the wall, that leads to a vent. You can also see the the broken "architectur" in the background, and water dripping from the ceiling.
• DrunkenMonkeyDrunkenMonkey Join Date: 2003-05-09 Member: 16165Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor, Constellation
3: The wall is now damaged, and steam comes from one of the pipes. And some of the computer screens is either not working or flickering.
• DrunkenMonkeyDrunkenMonkey Join Date: 2003-05-09 Member: 16165Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor, Constellation
4: The hive built. As you can see I have added a lot more infestation. Both on the floor...and everywhere else.

That's all for now.

I agree with most of these people. Another thing you could do is take one of those pipes on the side and bust it open with alot of steam bubbleing out of it. Oh ya that makes it look better. Also you can take those computer monitors and add some glass crack decals on um and sparks and beams with noize modifiers on um. Ya that would make it look more destructed. Well theres my 2 cents bye

SCRATCH ALL THAT gj didnt relize theree was a second page.

nice changes, uNF!
• ReeseReese Join Date: 2003-05-08 Member: 16143Members
Much better job on breaking stuff....and a good job on the infestation too. It definitley has more of an infested feel to it, and you didn't even really need much lighting changes.

Now if only we could make it so piles of infestation appear when the hive is built, and disappear when it's destroyed. Maybe make them a func_door that moves through a clip/illusory portion of the floor on hive build, and moves back on hive destroy? That's the best I can think of right now.

I like it, but too cozy, cutesy, and matter-of-fact. Reminds me of one of those rooms filled with balls where kids play around. Get rid of the blue and make some broken pillars, that blue pipe going around the corner makes me mad, so break it

More chaos, that's what it needs.

On the first picture of the second set of pictures there it looks like a misaligned texture on the entrance way arch/thing/purple dowigit

I think it's misaligned because it's broken and bent/fallen over..

Nice texture and lighting. About the only thing I'd do to this hive is maybe add something assymetrical hanging off the ceiling: wires, bacterial growth, or a solid stream of water.
• Some_tall_guySome_tall_guy Join Date: 2002-08-12 Member: 1139Members
well theres a hive hanging from it
