<div class="IPBDescription">Whats ur best!?</div> Plz Post the summary of your most epic battle for other's reading enjoyment.
Mine consisted of a standoff in subspace on ns_nancy. After about an hour of standoff we lost main base, and the enemy converged on our now only base in subspace hive. Fades were attacking, but luckily earlier we had a bad comm who had turret farmed this hive. We saved up res only for upgrades, and gave out welders to keep our 2 heavy techs alive.
As soon as upgrades were finished we got sieges, as the d chambers were overwhelming us from mother interface.. we sieged and used all available res to hand out heavy suits.
Amazingly the heavies stuck together (we re mined the base lightly (1 pack)) and all heavies moved in on port engine room. From there they STUCK together as i instructed, and we nearly took port, however ran out of ammo due to excessive o chambers, and i ran out of res dropping ammo/health. The heavies fell back, but lacking ammo, only 3 of 8 made it back to base.
From there it was another 15-20 minutes of dropping welders only, and saving up for another rush. Our siege cannons kept the d chambers down, however they built up more down the hallway between subspace and port, just out of range of siege, while a short walk.. it allowed fades to regenerate.
We tried another heavy rush, but this time it was intended on taking no name (via mess hall) because 9 res i wasted on scanner sweeps showed no buildings enroute, not the case for port.
This one failed miserably as the heavies were surrounded by supporting fades coming down the cargo ladder.
Eventually the turret factory was taken out. I had the entire team rush out while i alone built the new one, then instructed everyone to retreat. 3 fades rushed in and died due to the newly re activated meat machine turrets.
Eventually they did overtake us, but the game lasted a good 2 hours (plus 1 hour before that) and it was my most fun game, most of the time i wasnt even comming as there was no need, and everyone worked together in ways ive never seen before

GL work great when trying to protect something.
I love games like that!!!!
Relocation to eclipse after base destroyed. There nothing but us light armored stock rines and four turrents slaughtered thousands of fades before we had enough money to drop full HA set. The shooters were great but the com was retarded. From the very beginning of the relocation all we wanted was 1 nade laucher to go against umbra. All our stocked gun HAs were slaughtered when the aliens doubled the umbra and we were over run. Over an hour, the com wouldn't drop us even one Nade launcher. We fought hard, we fought long, but in the end we were overrun. I've never seen so many dead fades. More amazing, by stock lmgs.
EDIT: no it definitely wasn't ns_seige005, played that map last night an I hate it. I think it was ns_wheel.
I joined the marines in the middle of the battle. At this point, the Aliens had 3 hives and were about to rush with Onos; our commander informed us of that. The Aliens also had blocked off the exit with numerous Offensive and Defensive chambers. Marines were franticly in a hurry to finish building Sentry Turrets. Seeing as we (the marines) didn't have jet packs nor a proto lab, I asked the commander to create them ASAP. Once finished, with almost every marine armed with an HMG and Jet-Pack, the EPIC BATTLE BEGAN.
We stood atop the fort waiting our enemy to strike. I knew this would be a grand battle when the commander said, "Here come the ONOS". Instantly four onos appear at blocked exit, charging straight for our main door. Looking toward the other end of the fort, I could see a lines of hmgers and lmgers all firing, FULL AUTO, on the opposing force. A few of the marines went face to face with ONOS, only to die from a paralyze and a melee attack. Before long 2 onos were slaughter in a hail of gun fire, and the remaining 2 fled for their lives. I breathe a sigh of relief when the commander said, "And there they go.", happy my team has survived the 1st wave without much casulty.
During this break period, health packs were dropped in the phase (server mod), turrets were welded, and heavy machine guns w/ jet packs were dropped to the point of spam. A few of us scouted the exit to see if we could break through and possibly make it to an alien hive. Sadly, it was well guarded, with webs and stacks of offensive chambers.
As soon was we landed back inside out base, the second assault began. This time a single Fade at the exit was trying to destroy our sentry turrets aswell as the marines near them. Again we rain hmg fire on the Fade. Becoming more annoyed with this persistant fade, we took a more aggressive aproach and charged at the fade to kill or chase away. As soon we got to the exit the Fade had blinked out of sight and suddenly we heard the yell of charging ONOS! I quickly retreated back to the base, knowing that a good onos can take a jet packer out with ease. As soon as landed back in base, looked back on the exit, I could see 2 onos charging again at the main door, with a Fade back at the exit-- accompanied by a gorge. This time a larger number of marines (including myself) began to leave the safety of the fort and go head to head against the onos seeing that we out numbered them 3 to 1. But, one by one we died, the strength of the onos quickly defeated our level 3 hmgs; not to mention the paralyze attack. Hope was not loss, we didn't kill the onos, but we did heavily wound them. As soon was I respawned, I took one of the many jet packs, loaded up my lmg, and went after my killer at the main gate (the onos). With aid of a few hmgers atop the fort I got the kill shot on one of the onos, while my teamates finished off the other. I quickly returned inside the base, called for health, picked up then loaded an HMG, and charged that annoying Fade and gorge dual at the exit. I made quick work of the fade and watched as the gorge escape behind the offensive chambers. The second assault had ended. We were now confident that we were strong enough to with stand the Aliens attacks.
The remainder of that battle was full onos to jet packer combat, fades dieing left and right, onos making it into our base and terrorizing, and the unending sound of bullet fire. It was like an epic battle in the middle of a war. Sadly, the server crashed as we faced a brutal assault by gasing lerks, front line gorges, onos, and blinking fades. Our comm despertly trying to block access to the base was stacking comms chairs and both side entrances, while the marines we fighting with any weapon they could get. Our base that point was visably weaken, but our spirit was not. No one gave up and F4'ed, if we were going lose, we were going to go out in a BLAZE OF GLORY; taking every onos, fade, gorge, and lerk we could with us. I wish the server hadn't crashed, we were making our last stand, we would not go out quitely.
Sorry I cut the story short, but the battle was VERY LONG; even though I came in the middle. This post would have been TOOO LONG.
I live for NS battles like this. Everyone staying through it all and putting up a valient fight in the face of impending doom.
ALL SIEGE MAPS start with 3 hives and tons of rt's the door separates both species for like 5 min or something
However as a result... the rine base and alien bases are always forts.....lol
But still the best epic battles do occur on siege, even tho no skill is required to make it so

Anyway, I ended up being commander and we started off by trying to cap some res nodes and build some stuff in Sat Comm and Cargo storage. But unfortunately, those places failed.
Eventually it came to the point where some of my teammates were sure we were gonna lose. They were saying things like, "Our comm sucks," or "It's over," and such.
Well, I got an observatory up and built a phasegate in base. Then sent some guys over to Sat Comm and built phasegate plus res node there. Some skulks rushed, but thanks to the phasegate, Sat Comm was saved, and I got the chance to place turret factory and some turrets. After that we took Reactor Room and got phasegate, res, TF, and turrets there too.
By that time we had prototype lab, with jetpacks researched and also with advanced armory, hence HMGs. From that point, I had enough res to regularly drop Jetpack+HMG combo for my teammates.
At this point, the game completely turned around. The aliens attacked with fades, but our Jetpacked guys with HMGs killed them all, with help from me dropping medpacks and ammo for them from time to time. We tried to siege one hive, but that failed. Then we tried again from a different location, with 3 siege cannons and me pinging the hive. Waste Handling Hive went down quickly. My teammates went in and we built up a phasegate, followed by turret factory and turrets. At that point, the other team had only one hive.
My guys then gathered in cargo storage and took out the last hive in fusion with jetpacks+HMGs. The hive went down and we won. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Complete turn around from a loss situation to a perfect win situation. <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Awesome game. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
EDIT: Oh yeah, so what was the moral of this story?
Phasegates are your best friends. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I've been on *WAYYYY* too many servers where that is an epidemic. I swear, when 2 guys on your 8 man team decide to screw around it is game over. Especially when they are aliens so it's 8v10 anyways.... GAWD. A couple times I've seen the admins doing it, even when it's listed as a no-no in the server rules.
I don't mind you going to mess around when the game is over, it can be funny... but doing it before the game has started? One guy justified it by saying "Yeah but now when we lose, we won't ever die!"... well, besides all the obvious game-ruining problems with that, how about the one that it would be "if we lose" not "When we lose" if we were playing with a full squad :-(
We first start out rushing out to a hive. 1 makes it and I build a PG and a TF and some turrets. We try to lock down the other hive, but fail. I switch gears and grab as many rts and locking them down. The main base falls and I move to the hive. After relocation I grab level 3 guns and JPs. I use those to grab some more nodes and lock those down. The RTs that get pestered the most I reinforce with even more turrets. When that happens the aliens generally leaves it alone and tries to focus on our main base.
By this time my main is locked tight with 20+ turrets and can instagib any alien that tries to show its ugly face for more than a few seconds. However, the acid rockets keep ticking off health so I assign 2 base guards with the following equipment: JP, GL, and Welder. There task is to GL spam to scare or kill the aliens (if they don't run). Then when they run off or get killed, the base guards heal whatever damage is done. 2 elite base guards and a turret farm(TF x3) = near impenetrable base.
Now with my 4+ RTs and try to save for level 3 armor and get HA/HMGs. I succeed in forming a squad of 4. They move out and make mincemeat out of the fades they encounter. Now here's the part that loses us the game. As I tend to my squad, I notice something fly by. It was a base guard! I was wondering what he's doing? He's essential to my defense. Where was the other base guard? In the spawn que!
I check base and the aliens pulled off the hive/movement trick. ALL the turrets were too focused on the hive and the fades made a blitz on the 3 TFs. The turrets and siege make quick work of the hive, but it gave the aliens enough time to kill 2 TFs just before the sentries kill off all the fades BUT one. That <i>one</i> killed the last TF and the aliens did the trick again to finish off the base. GG aliens.
ns_rush_beta6, first time on that version. I'm on the alien team, and we start out with the regular rushes containment. suddenly, out of nowhere, around 6 HA's appeared, at this point we didn't have fades. They start by attempting rushes, but thanks to the gorges fabulous webbing, we repel them, and get fades. Then they sieged, and took out the middle hive. At this point I was sure we would lsoe, because they had lvl 3 everything, and everyone was HA/HMG.
They attempted to invade the standard way, but somehow, with the help of webs and the two remaining fades we kept them out. They then got more sieges up and started taking out the left hive. We had tried to put up the middle hive, but failed miserably. However their pg was undefended, so after I died as fade, I decided to phase into their base. It was completely empty, no defenses at all. First time a I get nailed by a HA, second time I manage to take out the pg and a couple of ips, and the comm when he got out of cc.
After this we somehow managed to get the third hive up. The marines found out due to massed xenocide, a barrage of bilebombs, and a primal scream. They attempt to siege, but in vain. The damage jsut isnt done fast enough, and we overrun the outpost. When we turned to their base, their grenades keppt us out for about 15 mins, before we overran them. Total game time: 2 hours, and my wrist was aching afterwards.
These turnarounds are what makes NS worthwhile...
It was fun for a time.
