<div class="IPBDescription">Hm...look who they quote</div> <a href='http://www.msnbc.com/news/924871.asp' target='_blank'>Originial Article Here</a>

Now the good part, quote from the President of Shiny:

<i>"Shiny president Dave Perry says that the more advanced the console, the larger the development team. He should know: Shiny’s “Enter the Matrix” cost more than $20 million to develop."</i>

Dear God. This reminds me of a dot bomb company, how many of you wanna bet more then 1/2 that $20 million was spent on luxuries? Shiny hasn't made a good game since...ever. After buying ETM, seeing the Shiny logo on a box is akin to having 'Extreme' and 'Valu-Soft' printed in the same space.

I would be willing to pay $60 for HL2, something I know will own me. But I wouldn't even pay that much for Deus Ex 2.

The shame about this is they think people will actaully take this lying down.

$20,000,000 on a game. If someone gave me twenty thousand grand, I'd have enough to train a bunch of talented teenagers until they were the best in the business, then have them make a good game, all while giving them free sparkling water to wash their cars with. What do they spend that $$$ on?

Ok. Given that Shiny, and I requote

has a huge development team, logic tells me that they would have known that the product they were about to place on the market was shoddy, and unpolished. Apparently all the money in the world can't help a game from sucking if nobody pipes up in development. Being a Matrix fanboy I was psyched because ETM was one of the most hyped games for the quarter, then came the horror of reading review after review of how craptacular it was. Why do I hear about people complaining about character movement when Shiny boasted about how much time they spent using motion capture technology? Er.. thats about all I can rant about right now. And before you flame me back saying how much you loved ETM, face the music please, the majority of people who bought the game hated it. You are a minority. So pipe down <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Fine by me if they charge $60 for crappy console games.

I only buy games that I'm sure are good, so I will gladly pay $60 for HL2, WoW, or some other new game that will own.

How about earthworm jim for the genesis? that game rocked!!! hehehe

But like most game developers they have lost their touch in favor of all out money-grabbing just like lucasarts <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

Ehh, gotta love certain companies after seeing this...

    Blizzard
    SquareSoft/Enix
    ValvE
    MicroSoft
    a couple others.

All those above put out pretty good games (in Square/Blizzard case, excellent) games while not charging extra for development.

Some places had it for $60, but I never saw it above that...usually in the $50 USD range.

Not here in Connecticut, where prices are usually quite high. It was fifty for the normal game, 65 I think for the collectors edition.

Best Buy had a rebate on the game when I bought War3 (I got it a few days after release) so I got it for $40. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

On average, games cost about $75 for me, before tax, after tax it usually comes up to about $100, thats why I don't buy many games, if they raise it any more I might have to stop altogether, but still, you can live in comfort, knowing that you will, never, ever, have to pay as much as me.
[edit] One thing is for sure, this is rediculous, they are spending millions on things they don't need and charging us for it, I'm starting to be reminded of DaiKatana. I think the people who make the game aren't entirely the problem though, this quote in particular makes me sick: <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->There just doesn’t seem to be negative reaction to game prices,” said Ow. “Even if one publisher took the chance to lower the price of triple-A game, it could bias the consumer that it’s a lesser game. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> However, even if this does happen to console games, there is a chance it won't even effect PC games at all, or even better, help them along. Warcraft 3 costs £30-£35 in the UK, I think the add-on will be £15-£20.

Still PC Games just better not go up in price.

Most expensive game I remember seeing that wasn't a collectors edition is Privateer 2, Software Etc. wanted $64 for it (in the US.) I got it for $25 and 2 weeks before retail stores did, straight from EA/Origin when they let you preorder games straight from them. So I pointed and laughed at the silly store clerk. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

But AAA titles often are funded in the millions, but 20 million for a game? That is a lot of scratch to spend on half-assed releases of ETM. However, that probably wasnt 20 mil per platform... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> I can see some of it was spent on luxuries, but I can imagine that ETM had some pretty high costs involved as well.

And if they just gave up on trying to copyprotect (besides a key for MP) thier games, they wouldnt have to worry about disc protection coding, which is making a couple of other companies that offer programs that can completely duplicate a disc pit for pit money as well. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

(Ps. Privateer 2 was an excellent game, and high quality FMV sequences. I highly reccomend it!)

I would buy a game for $45 or $40. Its only in the $1-20 range that I get worried its a crap title.

And really, what industry has EVER blamed lower prices for causing less purchases? Thats the most ironic statment I may well ever see in my lifetime.

For ETM: It was a bad idea in the first place, if they had taken their time, got a GOOD super-brand name developer (id/Epic, lord knows they could easily afford it) and released the official Matrix game before Revolutions came out, then it would have rocked. And the triple console port hurt them BIG, sorry, but you can't make a good engine while also making it fit the standards of 3 consoles and the PC.

Must say that Shiny has ONE game that manages to balance out the sheer stinkfinger factor of ETM. And that is EWJ. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

umm that's 20 million, not 20 thousand my friend. And ETM cost that much because they had a lot of the film crew working on it due to contractual obligations. Movie crews are expensive even when they work on games, I wouldn't worry too much this isn't a common thing.

I'm guessing HL2 will be 49.99, and about 39.99 on the first day (US prices) PC game prices haven't really been getting more expensive I doubt they'll start now.

And increasing a game's price because of anti-piracy code kind of defeats the purpose since that just encourages more piracy.

Don't mean to nitpick, but MDK2 was made by BioWare - the guys that did Baldur's Gate and NeverWinter Nights - only the original MDK was made by Shiny.
