Gorging Is Hard

and I thought COMMing was hard...
When you have a team of Marines who don't listen to a thing you say, don't follow waypoints, and always die... You get really ****... And you think COMMing is hard...

When you have a team of Aliens who don't listen to a thing you say, don't follow what you say, don't defend you, and always walk around and don't rush... You get REALLY ****... And what's more? You have no idea what's going on cause all the other skulks are just running around and talking jibberish... None of them tell you where they've secured... Unlike a COMM, you can't tell what's happening around you... You lack speed or sight to determine if a place is secure while staying safe...

If you're a gorge and no one rushes marine base past your location... Give up... Marines are gonna come and fill you with lead, and the aliens will be all **** at you for dying...

This is more of a vent than a strategy... But oh well...

If you are gorge then you ases the skill of your team and react accordingly. Its as simple as cherry pie.

Your right gorging is quite hard though not by any means impossible. It's just important you know what you have to do and how/where you should do it.

I think gorging is a lot easier than COMMing. It mainly consists of waiting for RP and camping under your hive in safety. Basically you build the nearest RT to your 1st hive, then build 3 DCs, then build some more RTs and then save and start the 2nd hive. Pick redemption so you might not even die if you get surprised (honestly, redemption has saved me 9/10 times as a gorge contrary to what people might say - don't forget to evade though!). Then you hope marines don't JP/HMG you at this point. If they don't, you MC and web both hives. Now your not even really needed so if things are tight, you should evolve to a fade. One good fade can totally decimate even many JP/HMGers if supported by lerks and near a hive. Better to have 1 fade and 0 gorges (so your teammates get RP and evolve faster) than having a gorge and 0 fades.

Being a COMM consists of building, commanding (telling your folks to move, secure areas etc.) and upgrading. Your responsible for the whole team. As a gorge you only have to worry about your own a$$ and hope nobody shoots you before you get the 2nd RT up and the 3 DCs. After that it's up to skulks so your not really responsible as long as you save RP for the hive.

Some might think that "Oh, COMMing is so easy cause so many win with JP/HMG", but in reality it's a hellish job unless you manage to pull the JP/HMG off. I've seen a lot of people loathe COMMing because it's so hard, but hardly ever do I see a team without a gorge. I usually pick gorge if I've just played an intense round (especially if I've been COMMing). It's quite relaxing...

Azreal, you've come to Roob's server quite a few times this week with different names, but always recognisable by the same irritating voice, obnoxious and rude comments, and foul language. You've been warned by the admins, and I remember you were gagged by Roobubba himself last game. You've managed to annoy all the regulars to the point where we consider leaving the server upon your arrival.
Does this not suggest that it is you who is at fault?

Shockingly, last night when you commanded on tanith, you were calm, gave sensible orders, and were generally nice to your troops. We won the game.

NS is a team game, and if you're abusive to your team, your team will not help you out.

I did indeed just gag you, which is probably why you left.
If you remember, the previous game when you gorged, we won effortlessly with very good teamwork...

Some games you get it some games you don't.

I did notice you saying after the game (and I quote)

"I am such a good gorge"

THAT is the sort of comment that winds people up, and by the sounds of it I'm lucky to have missed you all this week.

My server is all about teamwork at fun. If there's a team not working together, they always lose, regardless of what team they're on, because inevitably the other team WILL be working together (hence I try to randomize it as much as possible to balance the teams).

You were unlucky to be on a team with few people working together. It happens, though I do try to discourage it.

Ok, the gagging i can take... BUT ACCUSING ME OF BEING ON YOUR SERVER ON DIFFERENT NAMES I CAN'T TAKE!!! YOU BETTER TAKE IT BACK AND APOLOGIZE FOOLS!!!

davidsansome: This has been the first time I've been on RoobBubba's server in like 2 months... I've never ever used a different name other than Azrael 38 in NS... or in CS.. or Infantry... or any other freakin game I've ever played... SO DON'T EVEN DARE ACCUSE ME OF SOMETHING THAT I DIDN'T DO!!! Oh, btw **** (you deserve it), don't you know how to identify ppl by their WON ID's? If you do, then maybe you should be using it... If you don't, go learn how to...

And uh... I haven't been on roob's server last night... And I haven't commed on tanith... Last time I commed was yesterday on ns_eclipse on some other server... Oh, and my mic's been dead for the past month... So there's no way I could've had an"always recognisable by the same irritating voice, obnoxious and rude comments, and foul language"... If you want proof, ask around... Pretty sure ppl have seen me say that my mic was down...

And you "regulars" do seem to have a problem 1) reporting what has been secured, 2) rushign marines through the way that i'm buidling in...

Roobubba: Well I had to go, and I was gagged... both reasons... misquote: "'im such a good gorge" ... Do you even know why I said that? You guys were going hyper about my OC wall... I mean, WHO THINKS OC WALLS ARE AMUSING??? All i did was build it 4 levels high between power sub junction 3 and SAA to block marines... What kinda "regulars" are your server? And you missed me all this week cause I was never on your server...

Oh, and get your ppl to stop whining for a gorge to cap a res (even though the gorge SPECIFICALLY SAID THAT THEY HAD 10 RES)... And stop whining for DC's... They waste 2 res per carapace and really dents the res level early game (first game I capped 3 more res (4 total) before OC walling horseshoe/marine start... That's why we won... We also didn't have a 2nd gorge wasting res on DC's under EC... We had a rogue gorge (dunno what happened to him) then hatchet double gorging CAPPING RES)... Capping res works...

Capping res works if the marines aren't offensive. If they are, you're dead without giving some of your skulks a longer life expectancy.

Hm... I'll get in one more on-topic post before this thread goes down in flames.

IMHO gorging is a lot easier than commanding because it's more fault tolerant, there are fewer decisions you have to make, and it's less stressful. To be a good commander you have to, well, be good at RTS commanding. To be a good gorge, you have to have a reasonable grasp of RTSs (this one in particular) but more importantly you have to have either good survival skills or a team which is prepared to babysit you.

By "fault tolerance" I mean that there's far more burden on you as commander, and you are the only commander. If you aren't very good as a commander (and the enemy gorges are, and the marines and skulks are about equal) then you will lose. However, if you screw up as gorge, someone else can easily take over your role without irreparable damage having been done. After all, if you build poorly you haven't wasted all the team's resources - just those which were allocated to you.

Gorge is much more forgiving. I personally think commanding is more fun, and more challenging than gorging.

Azrael, when I read your post I get the impression you are shouting with anger. Here is a friendly tip: Don't do that if you want to get credibility. Using all caps and showing that you are easily angered to the point where you shout does not do much to convince the rest of us that you are mature and level-headed (2 qualities much appreciated around here). Calm yourself, and pretend that you are an intelligent adult conversing with another adult, and you have an audience watching.

Ok, and yes, gorging does take a while to master. Lots of things to learn, but still I think at the very least is a bit less STRESSFUL than comming. Now, whether you win or lose is the same for both positions: It depends on your team's ability to work together.

Ok, I'll apologise - over voice comm you did sound very much like the twit who's been coming to Roo's and screwing up games this week.

Back on-topic, I disagree about our lack of communication - the team *was* reporting the movements of the marines. You can hardly complain when you walk into computer core hive, and plop down the hive without even seeing (or hearing) the turrets there, or asking the rest of the team if the hive room was clear.

Anyway, sorry for insulting you earlier - you're gorging is good, and I did like the WoL near power sub junction, but you need to communicate with your team better - calm down, stop the shouting, and concentrate on hives and nodes in the early game - save the oc walls until at least the second hive is going up. The first game was saved (IMO) by Hatchet saving for Maintenance hive while you were busy outside the marine base - which actually might be a good double gorging strat.

That's a good point raised about the hive you dropped in CC, none of your teammates were there to rush, there was no coordinated rush. We completely walked over aliens that map, it was an absolute joy to play as marine (for a one time game). Challenging enough but satsifying that nothing you tried worked.

When it comes to teamplay, every single member of that team has a responsibility. No one person can complain about the rest of the team without at least trying to gather people together and make a coordinated attack. We didn't even have any upgrades when you dropped the second hive, we'd spend all our res on taking ground (and taken it and defended it (including base) extremely well to boot).

Getting hot under the collar won't help either (believe me I know).
The reason I gagged you was because your entire team was moaning about you annoying them. I didn't see the need to kick you, though many were calling for it.

    My advice:
    Chill.
To earn respect, you must give respect and act in a way that becomes a gentleman. Playing well isn't enough.
When it comes to NS, my additional advice:
    communicate.

Even if YOU konw what you're doing, your teammates may not be aware. Make them aware so they can act and react accordingly. What I hope you noticed in those two games on my server is that my team works together. Probably because many suck up to me, but however it happens I will take, tbh.

Nothing beats the thrill of a well earned team victory.

I did ask if CC was clear... I asked for a long long time... When I started to cap SAA, I asked where did they secure... If they had cleared marine base, to get them to rush through station access west, ask if CC was open... No one answered... So since SAA was really quiet, i assumed marine base was down (and someone said marine base res was down) and the aliens were busy securing CC (which means it was clear too)... I alos guessed maint was taken since the marines relocated there...

So I rushed into CC trying to get the hive up asap, but didn't hear the turrets or see them until i passed the corner from core access west (then i saw it and ran)...

Gorging isn't hard, it's how well you can defend yourself. Whenever I play marines, when I go after the Gorge he usually run's away.. nobody expects the Gorge to come back at you, thats what I alway's do. A Gorge with carapace + web's is a killing machine because you can spit + healthspray them to death.

Hey Asrael how have you been did u ever fix that music problem of yours?

    About gorging:

For me, gorging has always been very easy - you just cap res nodes and then secure another hive and then by that time the game has already been won or lost.

Stay close to safety (that u built), and dont rely on skulks.

Try different things - if the marines aren't relocating, goto another hive and get all the res towers there.

If ur spotted by a marine, run backwards (hopefully to safety) and spit at them.

And always listen to ur teammates.

Gorging really isn't that hard. The ony tricky thing to do as a gorge is webbing up the marines properly. Everything else is common sense.

If you keep in mine what your team needs and where they need you, you should do fine.
