Sometimes you hate it sometimes....
After seeing that smart bomb topic about scorpians that hovar last day i doubted that something can suprise me today......But something happened.......I was really angry about that radeon 9500 vid card that i bought lately ..... Many games dont play as they were suposed to play....and o ther weird stuff....The most awful thing were the skybox lines in quake 3 arena ......really pi**ed me off.And this uber cool TRUFOR feature sux0red so much....on my celeron 2 ghz ns was running 10 fps with trufor on, without trufor 90 fps.Recently i upgraded catalyst to 3.4 and noticed that i couldnt manage trufor settings now , but thx to the almighty it stayed off after the upgrade....Till i downloaded geekplay and watched some eu vs usa demos...OMG was choppy like **** trufor put itself on (have no fking idea how) and i was watching a slide show of a demo.....Terrified i launched ns, joined a random server and.....guess what ....trufor was on everything looked GREAT and i had STILL VERY good stable 90 fps !! THAT WAS A Shock....With trufor ns looks like a NEW GAME......but i have no idea what geekplay has done to my vid card settings......and i think i will never know the answer.......btw 23.04 i think im gonna go to sleep happy now . Um, im confused. Are you saying you had an ATI card and you got a different one and now it's better? Because I have an ATI card and it's giving me major headaches.....

Well, it hasn't crashed since I got the drivers, but that's not saying much since I only got them about 2 hours ago.

Im running a radeon 7500 and its a beauty, dont have the latest cats isntalled because of some DX issues that stop me from playing video files properly and some older games, but the base drivers on the CD work perfectly and I get damn site better performace and avlue for money than my friends with there geforce POS ;p

If you had an nVIDIA based card installed before the ATI card
you have to do a very thorough removal of the nVIDIA drivers
AND Registry entries.

I went through the same thing but I'm glad I did because my
9000 Pro rules

Oh and don't forget to download the ATI control Panel for your
Catalysts. It gives you alot of control and what is being loaded.
Everything from v-sync to TrueForm?

Use the Catalyst 3.1 drivers. Stable and fast... essentially the current 'baseline' for the Radeons. 3.2 and 3.4 are betas, for all intents and purposes... they tried to add in new stuff, while at the same time fixing the old stuff, and it didn't work as well as planned.

I've got a Radeon 9500 Pro, myself, and can play NS just fine at 1600x1200x32, with TruForm enabled, at over 70fps. Take off the TF and it jumps to a solid 100. And that's on an Athlon 1.4 T-bird system with SDR.
Dunno what Geekplay does to the configs that'd slow it down THAT much, as I've never used it. Just played the demos from inside HL, from the console.

Though the NS models look better with TF enabled, I'm still wanting to see a model pack put out that's optimized for TF... it's easy to cut out the 'ballooning' effect that currently happens with turret factories and armories, and wouldn't cause any noticable size increase or performance hit. Haven't done it myself as I don't have a full copy of Milkshape, nor do I know how to unweld vertices (you unweld vertices along an edge you want to be a sharp corner with TF on).

As an aside, anyone know of a good way to import/export HL models into Maya for easier working? THAT I could do it in, in a few seconds. But the only method I know of for transferring in loses the skeletons and animation associations.

hmmm on older catalysts with truform on Ns was really choppy.....After instaling catalyst 3.4 Ns with truform was still choppy...(so i played without) After installing geekplay and watching eu vs usa demos (the demos were choppy as hell, truform magically turned itself on) trufor put itself on and when i was playing regular Ns on random servers all was really fast with truform on.....Catalyst is weird

These drivers realy suck. I just upgraded from a geforce2go to an ati m9 (laptop exact equivalent to a radeon 9000), and in natural selection I can't get a decent frame rate worth a damn. I have tried both the catalyst 3.4 and 3.5 drivers, no change in either. This card is much faster all around in other games, and has much better image quality, but I notice the following problems with NS:

In the ready room, my FPS floats around a solid 100. But, when I join the game, the FPS maxes at 40 or so, and when I look at clusters of marine or alien buildings, the frame rate drops the lowest (down to 5fps at times), and the alien hives are missing several polygons as well. Also, at times, whole polygons on large walls will just dissapear and re-appear at random, this especialy happens in ns_nancy when you walk from the marine start to the mess hall, just before entering the door. Does anybody know why it does this or how to fix it? It's realy bothering the **** out of me.

ATi=Crap and copies everything Nividia does with minor improvement

Nvidia=Good driver support and they useally have the best stuff out first. Iv had relighablity problems with ATi in the past.

Great... more flames. And another locked topic. Do we really need more ATI vs. GeForce threads? I kinda like this board because of the flame free topics.

Well, the reason I got an ATI instead of an Nvidia card is because the best nvidia card available for my laptop model was far worse than this one. I just wish I could get the damn thing to work with half life.
• Nil_IQNil_IQ Join Date: 2003-04-15 Member: 15520Members
Well I don't like ATI because I dloaded the latest drivers and now half-life has stopped working
