if not both, then HA... but that's just my opinion....

(for non-ha.. a kerrigan style, where your not as huge.... for HA a huge medic style)

now... its abit long time since i played SC... but the marines were normal humans that was sent to jail and now the terran ppl use em as grunts ( marines and firebats ) cause they dont want em anyways.... or is it me that doesnt remember my SC correctly... ?

Nah... you got it a little wrong. According to SC lore...

The 'Terrans' you play as in the original campaign are a bunch of convicts and such that they sent far away from Earth. Eventually, they began organizing government and such and most of em became part of the Confederation. Then the zerg came, wiped em all out and now the galaxy were SC is set has no organized terran government. That old guy was planning to make an 'new order' i think. The guy who let Kerrigan die/infest.

In the expansion, the UED is the people from Earth trying to stop things from getting 2 out of hand. They send a gigantic fleet to kill the zerg and calm the convicts and such, but also end up getting killed.

[ Quote from the SC-manual explaining the marines ( translated from danish ) ] The marines are the human-colonies first defence. Most of them were Convictes or rebels that has been Nervresocialist . these brave men and women has nothing to do with the old aliences or ideoligists og now protects the Federation's intressetes with there own lifes. [/Quote]

sorry about all the gramma and spelling error in danish what can i say <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    heres what happenend

the earth sent a couple ships into outer space filled with the earths worst convicts (i cant remember why). they crash landed in the solar system where the game takes place. after a long time the survivors of the crash had set up flourishing civilizations, not all of which on the same planet. some odd amount of planets (again cannot remember how many) formed the confederation while the others decided not to and were then labeled pirates. huge wars followed, and the confederates ended up blowing (or killing everyone or sumtin like that) an entire planet. after a long time of war the pirates and the confederates were exhausted from it all, and then the zerg and protoss came, the zerg took colony after colony, while the protoss tried to kill all life on the infested planets with some big lazer or sumtin. and thats where the game begins. i may be wrong in some parts but that what i remember from when i read it last

The head is lower since it provides greater protection and less chance of head shots occuring.

the marine's arms are out so far so often can only lead me to suspect one or several things about the suit:

1 The arms are fit into a control system where nerve impulses control the artificial arms. There would probably be a on-board computer and power source, since the SIW (standard issue weapon) of the marine is a Guass "impailer" rifle; which by the name im guessing is some sort of under-powered rail-gun still using bullets, but beefed up with added velocity from magnets.

2 The user of the suit is in a heavilly padded, and armored suit. this explains why many of the critical areas (chest, shoulders, ankles) are covered up quite well. maybe even they are "sitting" hooked up to the above contol system except the entire body is hooked up. maybe their feet dont even touch the soles of the suit.

    3 Football player. nuff' said.

or it could just be a over-exagerated version.

who knows. we'll probably see when StarCraft: Ghost comes out to how the marines actually fit in them. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

for a example of what i think it may look like click <a href='http://www.blizzard.com/ghost/artwork/art16.shtml' target='_blank'>here.</a>

    for a close-up of a SC:G marine or two look <a href='http://www.blizzard.com/ghost/artwork/art15.shtml' target='_blank'>to this page.</a>

and there are some others with Nova (a ghost) and so on.

actually if MY starcraft lore is correct, Every convict on earth was to be exectued in something called the great cleaning (mind you this is far in the future, english was named the primary earth language) and some mad scientist got the guy in charge to get him a bunch of guinnea pigs. So he sent 3 ships (might be wrong) that were full of these convicts. I think they were travelling at about 50 light years in a day or something? Eventually something malfunctioned in the computers and the ships traveled for almost 200 years (again i could be wrong on the date) The ships computer initiated an emergency landing and 2 of the ships made it down, the 3rd one crashed and killled everyone on it. Eventually the terrans got the technology to make intersteller vehicles, and surprised the other terrans a bit too. The government took over everything and resistance groups broke out all over the solar system. Eventually though they were starting to get reports of a bug/alien of some sort killing people on mar-sara. One day while 2 groups were fighting a fleet of ships came in and decimated both armys. Announcing themselves as the protoss they then left without a word. And then the sun blew up and they all died.

I think they're a little oversized in that (not even WH40k Space Marines are that big, and in the actual game, they aren't that big), but okay.

I can agree on each of these points, however the Gauss rifle is no under-powered rail gun by any means. It fires spikes, not bullets, that are acellerated to hypersonic velocities. The steel spikes, at that speed, literally shred their way through light armor obstacles and soft targets, thus the name given to the rifle, Impaler.

Now, there are no exact refrences to this from Blizzard, but studying the shape of the armor compared to the shape of the body inside, the trooper's head is craned slightly forward in the suit. This gives him the "dodge high" profile you see. The power source is in the back of the armor, carried inside a reinforced pack. Stimpacks are also located there, and point medical devices. It's also suspected that is where the Medic inserts the nanos, painkillers, and meds needed to keep the trooper alive. There is nothing that suspects the trooper is in anything but an upright position, with the exception of the head. The suit is supposedly protected by 1 1/2 to 2 3/4 inches of reinforced ceramic composite, with a steel inner shell. Padding, muscular augmentation devices, power feeds, temperature control equipment, and a suit status system probably lie underneath the exterior.

And he'd most likely be a football player. The suits couldn't possibly weigh any less that a half-ton. With all the equipment, armor, secondaries, and the weapon load, it's a wonder how the soldier inside doesn't simply crack down from fatigue. This suggests they're all physically conditioned to the highest degree, perhaps to the point of genetic manipulation. I'm thinking something like the Elementals from the Battletech universe. Those guys were huge, had to be huge, to manipulate their 1000-kilo power armors. Many of these genetically engineered warriors were a full 2 meters in height, and could throw any lighter man through a less-than-reinforced brick wall.

Dude, you already know there is a model out of the sc marine?

I also agree with sheena, that armor is cool and everything, but its to big for my taste. I cant picture that crawling throught a vent. Have you guys ever thought about power armor from fallout?

ppls who are using crappy concept drawings for references are odd...
the actual marines are way smaller..theres no way the can have some kind of controlls in their upper body... i dont like thir dislocated shoulders.. looks almost they are all amputated ,and their limbless bodys are in a powerarmor with artificial limbs.. but on the other hand it cant be,becaust they could not play poker like on the pic <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

some starcraft technology stuff just looks cool..but the designs are impractical ,useless to debate how it works..
its like in the cartoons.. draw a rectangular shape with chalk on the floor.. push the button an your remote and you got a fine trapdoor..
    nobody can explain why,but it works <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
