I mean if I wanted to model I'd rather learn something like 3dsm, which could actually benefit me. Milkshape would hardly help me get a job.
I do like modelling, I'm just not interested modelling for HL. I'd rather use 3dsm to make something for Unreal or a similar game.

So, why not use 3DSM to make it? No one except you even mentions Milkshape in this thread, oh and NEWSFLASH: If you can't work out how to make simple objects in Milkshape, you aint very likely to get a job using 3DSM

So, let me get this right, you are interested in modelling, but only for fancy new engines and you simply can't be bothered to make this simple thing yourself? So you expect someone else to make it for you?
Sure.

Since when can you use 3dsm to make hl models
I'm not interested in half-life because the majority of people's work goes unrecognised, plus it can't cope with much. Infact, I probably wouldn't like to model for any game that's out now. I'd rather fart around and make 3D art or model some of my own creations.
Better to start simple. Trust me, if you want to sprawl headlong into 3D visualization, then be ready for a long road. It took me six and a half years to get from primitives to this. You don't know how often I stop and think "Wow, how much farther would I be if I started with (insert whatever here)."
Start small, work up, and never think your work goes unnoticed. Case in point: Counter-Strike. You mean to tell me Gooseman's work went unnoticed? Adrian Carmack, lead artist and co-founder of id software, and you're saying his work, along with character modeler Fred Nilsson will go unnoticed with the release of Doom 3?
And you can easily use 3DSM to make HL models, that's how coil made Chibiskulk. Either convert them to MS3D directly, or get plugins to compile your work into a .qc file.
Well I might do computer game design next year at uni and would like to know it before I start
u can model it in 3dsmax and export it in a *.3ds format to milkshape, and compile it; so where is the problem? i use 3dsmax 5.0 and i am also able to model for hl, so do it yourself dude when u are able to model and to compile
