How Do You Like Your Games?

Epic, quick or moderate length?
I must say that I definitely cast a vote in for Epic Games, anyone can finish a short game, but epic games are more fun (in my opinion) and can be a challenge.

The only downside to epic games is the conditions leading to them. Usually something like a two hive lockdown or alien prolonging is needed for an epic game, still, nothing is more satisfying than winning an epic game.

What is your opinion, I would actually be surprised to see people vote for epic, as most people I play these with like to F4 (not stating my opinion on F4 here, as nem edited it out yesterday, I suggest you do the same)

What do you think?

im a sucker for the epic games. doesnt happen too often, but sometimes... if the conditions are right... hehe. i think i encounter an epic game about once or twice a week. the server i play on has a buncha great regulars so F4ing is kept to a minimum thank god.

I LOVE Epic games. However, I only like playing if Marines (my fav. side) work together. I hardly see it, which is upsetting, but I love it when I do see it. Give me a 5 minutes game over a 5 hour one if the marines are working together!

I like the ones that I think I am going to lose, but by working as a team we end winning the game.

It is so great when you relocate to the last hive, is getting beat by fades and you give HAs HMGs to a bunch of guys and they end winning the game

If you've got a good comm/gorge epic all the way, otherwise I'd rather just hurry up to the round where we can get one.

I love my cames in the moderate length bracket. This, to me, is between 20-30 minutes or so. But i'm not hte kind of person to walk away from a 1hr+ game

I like long games that are interesting, where both sides have a good chance of winning (ie. not one sided for 2 hours).

I like epic games, especially when you win. You feel as if you have really achieved something. I don't get many though because I usually have other commitments.

Long, epic games that involve a whole heap of back and forth, constant teamwork and well fought battles over the entire map, a few re-focusings of strategy by a very on the ball commander, and a heavier reliance on seiges and HA than packs of JPing HMGers...

But then, I'm sure I've only ever had 2 or 3 of these games at the most... but oh my, when it happens... I feel so unbelievably involved and giddy with excitement

hmmm 1 hour max? as long as it is good.....

normally i guess 30 minutes or so... 2 hours if it was legendary ie.. stalemate back and forth

"Epic" doesn't just mean very long, it implies a certain quality of being noteworthy, memorable and generally exciting all along. I'm certain everybody would like such epic games. However, since NS games tend to be long without becoming epic, I prefer 20 minute rounds.

I like the games where hives keep changing hands - both teams playing to the limit - very good game play.

Not long games when you know you have been going to loose for the last 40 min.

I love any game not ended by a JP-HMG rush (as either team) where my teammates actually understand the basic principles of teamwork.

Oh man, there was this one four hour game on bast. Rines kept taking a hive, but the alines would take another and rebuild. It was fades vs. HA HMG GL. It went on and on. In the end the rines managed to take feed and pin the aliens in ref. But for the four hours it took, going through about 3 or 4 comms and the server almost entirely turning over twice, it was totally worthwhile.

i prefer moderate to epic games (can we say moderately epic? )....it's good when it's very well balanced and gives a chance for both teams to demonstrate team tactics in a number of ways

although some long games you just can't be **** after a while

problem with epic games is they often occur late at night and i end up waking up late for work the next morning

As an alien player, I really dislike the long games. They almost always involve having to play at a one-hive level, which gets boring FAST. Especially when the marines get a lockdown, and dilly around and don't attack the hive. As a marine player, long games can also get really boring. Especially when I command, organizing a two-hive lockdown is just....boring. To play, and to watch. I don't even really like the "epic" games, where hives are turning over constantly. While it's a better situation then the former, it too can get boring. I really just think I get bored of playing on the same map so much.

I don't like short games either. There's very little sense of accomplishment to them - especially when one team F4's. These almost always involve one team being obscenely more skilled than the other, and get very boring and frusterating for anybody on the losing.

Thus, I really only like games that are in the mid-range 25-40. Anything less or more is usually bad.

Epic, but only if they're epic and good.

I had an epic game where we were valiantly struggling against 2-hive aliens on caged (we actually did very well, bravo to our commander). We lost, but we came so close to sieging their hive to death (damn range tweaks made it very hard); I made my first fade shotgun kill (1v1 I might add, and I didn't get hurt at all); there was a really tense moment where 3 marines were hiding behind dark pillars in a the hallway outside Generator and we watched a fade go past... over voicecomm GO GO GO! and we killed it, wow was that awesome

    Um. All three?

Like several others have mentioned, the actual game time is irrelevant. It's how much of that time is spent in the "sweet spot" in which either team (with a bit of luck, skill, or coordination) can win. If that period is five minutes, the game shouldn't last much longer than five minutes. If that period is two hours, then the game should run two hours.

Conversely, I'd say some of the worst games I've played have been ten minutes of "sweet spot" followed by sixty minutes of "pointless touchdown dance" in which the winning team has to make it really, really clear that they won the round.

I love the epic ones. I loved the hour long games of old NS versions. It made victory so much more satisfying. And people had the time to try new and creative things out. Ill miss them.

Now its more like OMG RUSH, relocate or no? I dont know? Omg we thought for 30 seconds we lost!

    Epic. Not drawn out, epic.

I love Epic games. It just manages to get the right feel. In 1.04, Epic means hives change hands multiple times, both teams are working together to get the edge, and victory and defeat are both pivoting on a single action. Losing Epic games is almost as cool as winning. :-) nothing like holding out a Marine spawn decked out in HA against Onos and Fades... so cool.

Moderate is ok, but I hate standard jp/hmg moderate games.

    Fades Vs. upgraded HA+HMG.

Or skulks Vs. upgraded lmgs building a siege.

    Now those are epic games.

Epic are my favourite to be sure, the time frame is irrelevant as long as both teams are pushing each other continuously back and forth across the map. My favourite was a game that began at 12:00am and ended up finishing somewhere around the 3:00am mark (it was the map with messhall/subspace etc, I think it's nancy). It was fades vs HA/HMG/GL for about 70% of the match, some excellent battles went down (as marines - constantly vying for control of messhall, then the res near subspace, then subspace itself) - the best game of ns I've had. Both teams showed great skill and more importantly, excellent teamwork, which is what NS is all about.

I can't stand JP/HMG rush, it's so boring for both sides and a big waste of time I believe. I much prefer a HA squad slowly pushing its way through alien defenses, punishing any aliens that dare to attack on the way. Same goes for aliens. Running around with a group of 3/4 fades backed up by a lerk or two casting umbra as well as a gorgie for the occasional blast of healing spray goodness is great fun (vs HAs anyway, anything less and it all seems a bit too easy.)

Can't wait for 1.1, looks like the whole game will be turned on its head.

    Great stuff.

Best games are when marines hold 2 hives and aliens work together to clear one out. So ermmm... moderate.

    3hr+ epics.

I just love to see players join the server and say "omg, is this game STILL going?"

I can see from the posts that everyone lives and waits for that one epic game. I recon it's because they like the struggle a back and forth capture of territory. However the only way i've seen this happen in games is if different skilled players come and go. Hopefully this is what flayra has been tryin to fix for us, so that the side that's winning swing back and forth from aliens to marines in games of 20 minutes period ... Madd Heyyy!! .

*Don't u love being aliens and getting those pesky marines outa proc when they got it locked down. *

I would say epic. I like playing aliens in epic becasue you cant just tell your self "gimme a jp and a hmg and i can end it all now" which usually i can (which might i add i dont really like doing). I remember this one time on hera, i was aliens we started in (ermmm that hive which dont get hit by the insta 2 hive lockdown) well any way this game went for about 2 hours. it was great fun. Most of the rines were nubs but that sorta helps. Any way we had EVERY res on the map bar the one they had. We had a WOL in every hive and we had a WOL everywhere it would fit + some Mcs and web from a previous 2nd hive. any way everone on the team was lerk except for a few skulks and gorges. We constantly had full res. but putting up a hive dident matter because it got instantly sieged. The marines had full tech. we were just constanly holding spots like holo and the hall way to holo. it was great fun, JPers gonig at you with hmg and naders while your entire team is helping guard them off and a combat gorge building and repairing OCs during the battle. but later that round we got a hive up (they couldent afford to scan it anymore) and EVERYONE went fade. and i swear in less than 30 sec after evoling there entire base was killed. 8 fades all acid rocketing a tiny marines base. lol very fun match, for the next hour the com was complaining on how nubbish his team was.

    Epic for sure

especially on the public servers ... teams tend to lack in finishing it off there
and the games get sooo long
i've had a game on noting ... and u wont believe this
aliens started with viaduct and then we took cargo and they had powersilo, then we went to take powersilo and got it ... but at the same time, they got cargo and that went on and on ... and everytime they just had enough time to get a new shipment off fades, and since we didnt have that much resources it was really cool, finally we got a jetpacker with nadelauncher to clear redroom and when we had some stuff up and running there, 2 skulks and lerk finished us off there with some nifty umbra tacktics
finaly the aliens won after we had swopped the hives for 7 or 8 times
