<div class="IPBDescription">Can I ?</div> I started mapping for ns and I'm not sure may I use files under the "valve" -folder. This includes
- The halflife.wad and some other wads in the "valve" -directory
- Models, sounds, sprites etc. under "valve" -directroy
- Models, sounds, sprites etc. in the pak0.pak -file.

Secondly, if I can use that stuff, should I put all the things as 'custom stuff' to zip (listed in .res file) or will they be found automatically? Does hl look for textures in halflife.wad automatically?
EDIT: Sorry for misunderstanding -- questions above have nothing to do with eachother <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

And what is that valve.wad mentioned in the FAQ. (yeah, i read it)

Thank you for your answers <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Yes.
NS and its maps already use lots of "Valve" stuff.

Small problem is that Flay wants to keep the NS universe as unique as possible.
So a map that does not look like NS would never become oficial.
Another problem is copyright, but all Valve stuff does not count to that.

Remember that door? Its from the movie "aliens"
So much too the "unique NS ambience".

hehe ive been wonderin about this too.. personally i find the hl.wad textures a lot more boring than ns.wad ones... but for glass and such tehy come in handy.

Jiriki, by default HL (and NS) checks the folder for whatever mod is running (NS), then any PAK files in the mod's folder, then the Valve folder then and finally PAK files in the valve folder when you use a resource outside the BSP. Texture wise i'm not sure what it does if you have the same texture name in multiple WADs.

From what Flayra has said before, it is OK to use resources from HL, <b>so long as the map doesn't look like part of HL</b> when you're finished.

I have only seen a couple of maps that used HL textures that heavily (HL computers, floors, ceilings and doors), they were burtally mocked until they were hidden in shame.

Any unique sounds such as .wav or mp3 files and .tga or .bmp files, generaly any thing thats not in the wad file need to be in the .res file.

If I use (only few) textures from halflife.wad will it work automagically (so i don't have to do anything special) in ns ?

And i'm not making map looking like part of hl, because i dislike hl-look, but hl's own wad files has some good textures to use (glass for example). Yeah, thanks valve <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

All NS players have halflife.wad , so you don't have to do anything special to use it.

Chrome I think you are wrong about the search order. Why should HL search the valve folder first??? That way no mod could overwrite models <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Shouldn't it be:
    1. Textures in the bsp itself (-wadinclude)
    2. PAK in mod folder
    3. files in mod folder
    4. PAK in valve folder
    5. files in valve folder
    ?

Nerd's right, I made a complete mess of that. I'll go back and re-edit the original post now.
