You will always get a biased answer asking this kind of question here. I'm sure if you go to some CS forums, they'll probably say CS is better. For a teamplay/strat game I like NS much better.
As a pub game, NS is way better to play than CS. However, now that I've had a friend getting me to ring in some CS scrims, I have to say I'm still partial to NS but organized play does make CS more appealing.

All in all, learn the game, play it, and see for yourself. Not all games appeal to everybody.

And yes, comparing them is quite pointless beyond the fact that they are both games that you can play on the Half-Life engine. Aside from shooting, there is nothing the same betwen them.

yes i suppose your right there also i think NS has an unfair advantage because it was made later etc.

which means there would be less people because it hasent been around as long which means less server, also this is the 1st public release of NS and its well alot mor for cs beta 1.0-7.6 or something then official 1.0-1.5 (1.6 if you have steam) which is an unfair advantage to CS not ns

Well, CS has been totally dumbed down so that any yuppie can learn to play it well. NS 1.04 required a lot of skill.. 1.1 still takes a good amount of skill.... we'll see how it turns out when it gets released to the pubs.

Yay. Let us state, re-state, re-re-state and re-re-re-state what we have already stated and re-stated forty-two times before. I humbly request a lock.

You can't really compare them because they're such different games. Personally, I used to play CS a lot until NS came along, and I don't think I've played more than a couple of games of CS since, whereas I can happily spend several hours each night in NS and always come back for more.

I think the difference is that, at least on public servers, CS games instantly degenerate into deathmatches that are usually over in two minutes. If there was a way of enforcing teamwork and completion of objectives it would be quite different. Teams would play tactically and work together, creeping towards each other slowly instead of just running at each other, firing wildly and flinging grenades everywhere.

NS overcomes this by making sure that you have to play as a team, and rounds generally last much longer, often evolving into 1-2 hour epic battles. It's all a matter of personal preference, not which one is "better".

Apples are NOT better then oranges, but NS fairly and completely beats CS. Though CS maybe easier to understand (we have to kill the T's) and NS maybe harder ( we have to wipe out all their hives so they don't evolve and kills us so that means we have this much time before we die). NS is over all a better game because the team work is much more invoveled.

I thought I'd stop by with one more comment: NS is good for me because it is a more teamwork oriented game, and thats something that appeals to people who like an RTS genre. Its still a FPS at heart, of course.

The changes basically are trying to enforce teamwork... which can only be enforced so far. I think the emphasis on teamwork means the game will only be understood/enjoyed correctly by a clan, a group of friends that play together frequently, or a group of server regulars that play together frequently. Games where you don't know the marine covering your back just don't seem to end as well.

You're lucky the forums have anti - CS bash policies. It is insulting to compare CS with NS imho.

You can compare the first donkey kong with the monkey throwing junk at you to HL2 'cause the E3 preview lets you throw things like boby traps at the helpless people. If you can do that (cause i just did) then you can compare NS to CS. Though you may get lower FPS(frames per a second NOT first person shooter) but it looks a lot better and runs very well 'cause everyone you play with is the same except ping wise. I personally think you should NOT play CS before NS even tho CS is easier, because most people that play CS before NS (i did it myself when it first came out) ask "How do I but new guns, i went to the armory and pressed B to buy and it did nothing. Why?" And everyone at the same time says "The comm gets you weps n00b," So if you have a desire to play NS don't play CS mainly because NS IS BETTER!

There's also the community, because I find that the NS community is at least two times more mature than the CS one. I think it's because NS isn't based on personal skill (it's more about working with your team, tactics, and strategy), while CS is all about skill and deathmatch. So, even 10 year olds can understand deathmatch, but they would get turned away from NS because it's a lot more complicated (which means a lot less kids in NS).

Ok. You ask for it, so I'll go against the trend now: NO. No, NS isn't better than CS. No. Neither is CS better than NS. NS is better than CS at being an fps/rts symbiont because CS isn't an fps/rts symbiont. CS is better than NS at being a pure fps game because NS isn't a pure fps game. Asking us which game we prefer has only little more merit, as almost everyone will vote for NS. If you really want to know which game is better, ask the community to vote. Make a poll somewhere where an equal percentage of the NS and CS community visits regularly. But don't let the result guide you, or you'll be back to playing CS.

*** LOCK *** it. Please.

DANG FIGHTER! Nice point thats probably the smartest post I have ever seen, though your not really going against us your kinda staying neutral but I'm starting to flow to your point. But you can still compare Donkey Kong to Half-Life 2 heh.

I'd like to thank you all for making this one of the more respectable threads that compare the two mods. However, since we and I know from experience how such threads always turn when given time, I'm going to *lock* this thread as asked while we're still ahead.
