Phobia 2 And 3
<div class="IPBDescription">top-down shoot'em'up discuss and learn</div> For those of you that dont know, Phobia 2 and 3 are top-down action shoot-the-living-f***-outta-tha-aliens game.
the weapons are the basic infinite-ammo machine gun that you start with and health packs that spawn randomly on the map; then there are:
Gator bombs - basically a bomb that continually splits and explodes three times, and on each explosion releasing 3 more gator bombs; thus 1 brings 3 that brings 9. bounces off the feild's sides
High explosive ammo - Duh. name says it all. any aliens nearby the poor fool alien will be damaged, too
Flame thrower - <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Watch them burn! they cant harm you when they're on fire, but they do block your veiw if you're in them. also bounces off the field's sides
basically in phobia 2 aliens slowly trickle into the playing feild. and the playing feild isn't all that big. as you kill more aliens, you gain more ranks; and more aliens on the feild. by the time you get 1500 kills the map will be continually deluged with aliens, and health kits come less often sometimes. it gets really hectic and hair-raising in the latter parts; the aliens will ALWAYS get you, no matter what! get the high score!
Phobia 3 is 90 megs, and well worth it. it's free and it has movies, a story line (no more no-win situations!), and new items like:
Emplaced turret - mannable, it has a large amount of rounds to pour into the enemy alien horde; 360 degree rotation and can fire over and upon anything
Auto-cannon - touch activated, it'll shred any weaker alien that it fires upon (clockwise rotational fire)
there are also more and different aliens in phobia 3, as well.
if you want to download phobia 3, goto <a href='http://www.lynxlabs.com/phobiaIII/download.html' target='_blank'>This site right here.</a> if you have linux you can play phobia 2, but dont worry, there is a windows version as well. you'll have to look for it though.
Furthest i got in phobia 3 was the second-last level, and the level befor that i got through by gaining career points (i didn't really do the third-last level completly. i just played it until i got enough points to pass by it <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> ) and the highest score i got in Phobia 2 is a score of 1882. Three words: "Gator bombs ROCK!"
If you have played any of these games, what tactics do you use to kill the aliens, and how long do you live? One of my favorite tactics is get the high explosive ammo and walk around to get a good following. i then do a about face, point my gun at them (its off-set by 45 degrees to the left; walk up and down to wax a line of em' thats why.) and unleash hell. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Comments
Edit: I sounded like an idiot. Fixed!
the menu's on Phobia 3 are abit hard to get through, but you'll figure out what they all do (dont press the launch nuke button. it exits game from that menu.)
one other weapon in Phobia 3 that i forgot to mention:
Missile strikes - basically when you pick up the weapon and press fire and 12 or so missiles come in from the top right corner of the screen and *try* to fly to all the red targets. it's only good on the weaker enemies, though.
- the mounted gun has only 1000 rounds. your remaining ammo on the weapon are the yellow dots on the bottom of the screen; this goes for the other weapons as well.
i usually play the "training" area mostly. trying 50 times to finish the last mission is really borring. also you can setup player 1 and 2 to have the same controls, so you can control both players in the training mode! <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
H4XX0R! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
heh. Great job if it was for real, though.
-edit- just DLed Crimson Land and its pretty phat... doubt ill buy it though. (no cred card and parents are paranoid about it; mom's had her card number stolen more then 3 times. that makes her = "trust no one" mode when it comes to credit cards.)
and speaking of Crimson Land, you have to buy it now. 1.4.0 was freeware, but the current version 1.9.0 is shareware.
after aproxamitly 2 hours of play or something it cuts off all play modes and wont let you play until you buy it... for nearly 20 US dollars! <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> i'd say thats about 30-38 dollars Canadian. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> And there isn't any [good] multiplayer modes; just you and a friend... with one mouse that you need to aim with.
atleast the main site is still active and the news is as fresh as the morning air.
EDIT: found it <a href='http://www.multiplay.co.uk/articles.asp?id=59' target='_blank'>Here</a>
I didn't like the third phobia as much as the second, but they're good games nevertheless. Movement in Phobia 3 is kinda "sticky", at least when compared to phobia 2.
Actually, I like Crimsonland more, I'm thinking of registrering it, but great games nevertheless.

Hah, so is Crimsonland and all the good shareware games <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> The guy who made crimson used to(or does still) hang out in the POnline. I never guessed he would become a greedy fiend <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
More Finnware can be found <a href='http://www.suomipelit.com/nayta_pelihaku.php?nayta=kaikki' target='_blank'>Here! (Suomipelit.com)</a>
Sorry it's finnish but you can see the pics and the star-ratings.
Does anyone know of any FreeWare Plane Shooters? (Staying on Semi-Topic)

Have you checked out Triplane Turmoil?
Do a quick search for it on <a href='http://www.gamehippo.com' target='_blank'>Gamehippo</a>
And about Phobia 2 or 3: It's irritating to play 2 player games with newer keyboards, because in my experience they don't support pressing so many keys at the same time and in example this can prevent both players from moving at the same time.
slowly move up the mounted guns, and kill those parasites (little purple moving turds) befor they kill you. if a alien comes too close move your gun in the direction of the alien and it should be killed.
You'll run out of ammo on the last gun and have to deal with the remainder with your normal machine gun. just sit where you are and keep blasting the bejezus outta the aliens, and stick to a cone shape. if any go outside the cone-looking-triangle blast it befor it gets to you! there'll be so many aliens bunched together they cant move!
NOTE: there is a crack for Crimsonland 1.9.1... but i wont give it to you. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> you'll have to look for yourself. (if it had stuff like a MP3 player and a decent internet play then yes, i would buy it, but share-waring a version with minimal "goodies" results in many people being po'd.
1.4.0 doesn't require you to buy it, if im not mistaken...
Good thing phobia 2+3 are completly free! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
PS: OoOoO. wireless force-feedback gamepad. <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->
