Heres what I did. I took out that crappy radeon of mine, which was giving me so much grief, reformatted, reinstalled ALL possible drivers, everything except a bios flash, downloaded Nvidia's 44.03 drivers, very reliable. I used to get 60fps with my geforce without vysnc, now I get continuous 99.9FPS, Its really great. ATI just dosent get along well with NS I suppose. Here is my configuration. Windows XP Professional SP1, Directx 9.0, Nvidias 44.03 Detonator FX. Hardware: Geforce4 MX440, 512MB SDRAM, 1.3Ghz Duron (Poopy) and heres what I feel is the MOST important improvement. Updated 4-in-1 drivers, AND updated AGP drivers. If all else fails, pick up that old geforce or nvidia card and replace that ATI asap. Im not sure if its drivers, or if its just me, or the crappy 9000pro I have, but all my 3d games run ever so much better with that geforce. I hope this helps somebody. Also, remember Vsync is your enemy. Make sure you have a refresh rate fix. I use NVRT21. I belive someone posted a url somewhere else. At any rate, My frames problem was a bad company. Ive had previous experience with ATI's cards. Im not sure to say weather its their drivers or their hardware, but something is definatly wrong. No, Im not slamming ATI, just stating something everyone knows. Thanks for reading this rant. On your mark, get set, FLAME!!!

I keep hearing about these horror stories with ATI cards but I have yet to see them myself. Could be that I am one of the lucky ones? I have tried other brands inclueding Nvidea, 3DFX, SIS and Matrix but always found myself coming back to ATI cards and thier overall reliability. You know, it's good to hear someone is happy with thier new Nvidea card but flaming ATI for your problems won't make it work any better. But then again, I have found GeForce cards always worked better with AMD processors were ATI works best with Intel processors. I hope this is something that could help someone decide on thier next vcard choice.
Fact- The R9000 is a cut-down version of the R8500. It is not based on the same core as the R9700, and is only a DX8.1 part.
Fact- The Cat3.4 drivers are essentially 'beta'. They're unstable, slow, and a bit buggy. Roll back to Cat3.1 or 3.2, and any problems you are having will likely disappear.
Fact- The R9000 Pro can handle higher resolutions, better texturing modes, and smoother FSAA than the comparable nVidiot part. It also delivers smoother, higher framerates and proper color calculations when using the proper drivers.
The only real reason I moved up the the 9500 is because the 9000 isn't beefy enough for really in-depth modelling with a lot of wireframe, non-occluded geometry. For standard gameplay, it works beautifully.. it even ran Unreal2 quite well.
And before the flamethrowers can even come out... *Locked.*
