How awful...i've had it happen before, not quite on the scale of yours but i likely made a backup of all half-life related stuff and music.

Oh well.

Given the caption, the expression on the dog, and in general how life tends to be, I'd say it falls into 'you know'.

well firstly it isnt all that bad i guess cos at least im on ADSL so i can re DL it all relatively fast... i have got my vital life signs back..

winamp 2.91
HL

Opera
Msn 6
Kazaa Lite

now i just gotta get everything back :S

rofl at the picture...

worst thing is having to get my skins back... not cos i 'loved' them so much.. but cos they were lo-poly.. i had nearly lo-poly everything.. and now its gone all gone...

I had a drive fail on me once, Having no better idea. I did an idea I found on a forum, which was "freeze" the drive. Put the drive in its proper anti-static bag, then normal plastic bags. Toss it in the freezer for about an hour.

Did all that, Hooked the drive back up to the machine. BIOS detected it, It worked fine until it was back to room temp. I was able to freeze it one more time to get the rest of my data. I had about 15GB of stuff I wanted.

btw, Im not kidding.

Voog you shoulda tried getting a cup or somethin full of ice and stuck it in there (still in the bag) then just hooked the cables up.

*Edit*

Aftet you froze it that is, to maintain temp.

On a side note, I saw these crazy guys submerge an old computer in some liquid coolant (wasnt liquid nitrogen, but it was some stuff that was pretty cold)... anyway they overclock what I think was a pentium something or other mhz (under 200 thats all I remember) to around 800 mhz.

I'm afraid of experiencing the same thing. So I made sure to build a box capable of fault tolerance, IE RAID 0. So now I have two 120gb drives, mirrored. Protects against complete failure, but of course doesn't protect against human error, like mirroring the wrong direction when the replacement drive is installed. That happened to a client once... he was not happy. Luckily, he had everything on tape. Just took 8 hours to restore

Never underrestimate the power of the FAILURE™. For all you know, both HDDs could fail.

Yeah, I always backup through LAN on the other computer. Nothing better than having to wait for those 90 GIGs to transfer.
