just formated
I recently formated my comp, before i always got fps of 100 or in the 90s, and i now im lucky to get 20, i dont know what to do
standing in a lan game, facing the wall, i still dont get more than 40
I reinstalled ns, got the patch, got the hl patch, and i was low fps
turned off vsync, still low
made sure my fps_max was 100, still low
updated G4 Ti 4400 and motherboard drivers, still slow
so 2 questions, should i be using opengl or directx and are there any other ways that i could restore my fps to what they were before i formated
still low fps regardless of wheather i have it in software or other modes, same for resolutions
Formatting is sposed to speed up your comp

edit: and i just got the lateest directx, still bad
It's possible that windows has overridden the drivers you tried to install with something different.
I'd get a selection of drivers from Reactor Critical and try installing them and testing fps for each one. Try to do as manual an install as possible...
Once you have got all the drivers installed, also make sure you've got your latest monitor drivers and read My Vsync/fps guide. It won't address your current fps problem, as that really does sound like a driver issue.
Roo
also i got the drivers i currently have installed from Nvidia.com but they might have been installed wrong ill check
If it effects anything here are some quick specs of my comp:
amd athalon 1900+
nvidia g4 ti4400
512 megs or ddr ram
windows xp profesional
thats all i can think that would effect frame rate
The same comp that got framerates in the 30s on the Doom 3 alpha should be getting much better thatn below 20 in ns
To me it sounds like a driver problem, or a conflict with some other hardware ? Your computer should be able to run NS without any problems at max fps.
This is not caused by your card ... Like Roobubba said, it's most likely the drivers
And as said before, if something is saying that your card does not support openGL, that is butt too. You need to completely remove any other video card drivers that may have been a default windows setup.
One time, when I had a Radeon 7000, I reformatted and WindowsXP initially installed the card as a radeon 8500. At first, I thought it was extremely cool because in doing so it allowed my desktop to use a higher resolution than I could have had with the 7000 driver installed. But when I went to see what kind of super coolness it would let me do with half life, it booted me out of the game immediately and told me my card did not support openGL. So I would say that there is a 99.9% chance that your drivers are what's ****.

OpenGL works MUCH better in NS (well atleast for GeForce cards)
so what they said tweak it till you can get OGL working
also, were you ussing OGL before the reformat?
Wierd becuase i knew the xp drivers were bad, so right after i formated i dled the latest ones off the nvidia webiste, and they didnt seem to work
Later i re-dled them, and installed them manualy, not with the windows xp wizzard, and now it works.
But, windows xp did install ALL my other drivers and got my networking up and running, so i still love it
