10 Fps!?

I have a 1.3Ghz Duron 512 SDRAM Radeon9000 pro 128. I get pretty good frames for my system with the newer games, and during a firefight for NS, 10 FPS. Vysnc off, refresh rate= 85. I tried HL-VES, I tried GL commands, Ive tried it all, Ive spent a good 3 hours trying to get this to work and it wont. I dont see how a game like NS could possibly bring my FPS to its knees. Also I have DX 9, Winxp prof, and the Catylst 3.4 drivers. Please help me, I love this game too much to quit because of something so trivial like fps <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'>

PS: Yes, I have a refresh rate fix.

I have Athlon 1GHz, 512 SDRAM, GeForce4 Ti 4600 and get a steady 80-99 fps <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'>

Maybe if i werent so damn poor <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'>....... But wait I thought of something. Its only NS that gives me poopy frames. TFC=Constant 80-90 fight=60-70. This figures, my favorite game, WONT work =(

now, for some more info:
1) what FPS do you get in say, the RR?

this might cause some errors, have you thought of turning it off? (not sure, just stabbing in the dark)

hmmmm, make sure you have max_fps set to 100

wow, I really am not sure (some one will probably come by with more knowledge then me)

but yah, what fps do you get in the RR?

then watch your ping, choke, and loss... Se how those are (on this topic what is your connection?)

Also, have you tried testing this on a LAN?

Start up a server then put in these cmnds to the conn:
sv_cheats 1
bigdig
givepoints (type that a few times)

now, test you fps, then start havving fun with turret framing.
If that dosn't seem to do anything, use the invul cmd (that is it) then walk a skulk into the marien start to see what is up <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

I have almost the same graphic card (R9K PRO 275/275, but just with 64MB), but stonger processor (Athlon 2400+) and better memory (512MB 333Mhz DDR) and im getting abot 70-100 fps. My OS, drivers and DX are the same as yours. Its strange you are getting so low fps.

Only thing i noticed about Cat 3.4 was that the tray icon (atiptaxx.exe) was somewhat messing with my Hl key configuration.

Using the refresh rate allows me to use that wonderful 10fps, Without it I almost cannot run... As for connection I have 1.5mbps cable, fps_max=100, all those connection things are tuned for cable... also, Im assuming RR= redroom, only problem is NS wont let me create a game. Yes, still crap FPS

It seems strange that your fps would go so low considering your system but here's what I would recomend. Turn down you fps_max. If it's set to 100 and your comp can't crank out that much having it high is bad. For example: lets say you get 40-50 fps normally with fps_max is 100, but in a firefight it drops down to 10. Turn your fps_max down to 30. Then normally you'll get constant 30 fps, and in firefight it'll only drop a little or not at all.

I think the fps bug has something todo with vsync being off. try turning it on. You might get a steady 85 fps then.

Problem fixed. Bought a Geforce 4 Ti4200 128 x8. Heh. Thanks anyway =)
