And Now For Something Unexpected

I LOVE 1.04 :D
Frankly I've just about had enough of the attitude that 1.04 is terrible. I want you all to sit down and think about something.
I want you all to think about that moment when you first joined an NS game. When you first spawned with a flash of sound and saw a base with strutures, teammates, softly beeping sentry turrets. Turning to your left, you saw a vent, and from it suddenly dropped a beautifully rendered creature, so alien in it's apperance. Marines running left right and center, the roar of HMGs, the turrets madly firing in vain, the cry of the beast as it fell. Then that crawling feeling that sooner or later, you were going to have to leave this haven of humanity and take the fight to these creatures.
Or maybe you spawned and heard the sound of dripping water, saw dank slimy walls and the soft slurping of a resource tower. Looking up you saw the vast bulk of a hive, like nothing you'd ever seen before in a Half Life game or any other game. Suddently crys of pain as bullets tore into the hive, and the deep growling voice that told you to defend it. Noticing that your view was behind your teeth, a feature perfectly alien and so atmospheric. The leap as you sprung towards that marine, tearing into him, seeing his body slump down. The quivering mass of the hive stabilising as the offense chambers and defense chambers beneith it calmed down.
This is what I want you to remember. The rush of seeing your first onos. The thrill of killing a hive. The satisfaction of seeing your master plan as commander pay off. The sense of power when you first evolved into a fade. These things are what showed us that NS is a brilliant game; for all it's imbalances 1.04 remains one of the most amazing and enjoyable games ever. And we got it for FREE.
So Flayra and the others who have contributed to this wonderful enterprise, please take heart. We all appreciate what you have done so much. For those of you who have been so critical, remember what I have said. Remember why you feel in love with NS. And remember that from here on in, things can only get even better

Roger that!
I can't understand the current anti-1.04 feeling either, although it may be something to do with the fact that 1.1 is out soon and people want a change in gameplay...
Whoops I said 1.1 will be out 'soon' - I mean 'when its ready'
Sometimes when I play I find a cool detail in a map that I didn't notice yet , and the only thing that I can say is... wow !
Only exceptions are:
-my team is a REALY noobish team
-the other team are pros, but when the team is bette than you.. isnt it logic that you lose? i mean, at the end its that what the game is about, the better wins
What do you mean? his servers prevent people from f4'ing?
1.1 will be better yes, but 1.04 is fun and playable. what more do you want?

After having an excellent game in 1.04 with Elven-Thief recently, I was reminded that 1.04 is still totally cool, so I am totally with you on this, I think what the problem is at the moment is that there aren't enough of these "memorable" games occuring. I think its because of the over-use of certain tactics, (i.e. JP/HMG)
After winning a game with the JP/HMG rush in under 5 minutes, I pleaded with my team-mates to try something else, and suggested a shottie rush. This was incredibly refreshing, and even though we won the game in the same time, the aliens had a chance to actually stop us.
It's the fact that the game is unbalanced that generates anti-1.04 feelings. The very simple JP/HMG rush is the single greatest uncounterable tactic in the game. Unless you get extremely lucky getting a hive that's very enclosed, has easily scalable walls and few entrances to it, you are guranteed to lose against a team of equally skilled players on the marine team. Why? Because HMG is GREATER THAN skulk level 3 carapace and no leap. It takes less than a second of HMG fire to kill a skulk while it takes 2 to 3 chomps of skulkitude to kill a marine. When one team can tech to the highest level while the other one has tech level one, that's not balanced.
Which brings me back to my point that 1.04 is unbalanced. I don't really want to flame, so I'll try not to target any of the above posters individually and just say that ignorance breeds more ignorance. If the only food you ate was slop, you'd aquire a taste for it. For those that say "aliens are winning on my server/games"...you're not playing clan games, you're playing against unevenly skilled teams or a team not using the most effective tactic in 1.04.
Everyone KNOWS this is going to turn into a roasting so why not stop while we're ahead eh?
